1938 Alert. By Markus Becker in Spiegel Online (thanks to DFS):
New simulations carried out by European Union experts come to an alarming conclusion: Iran could have enough highly enriched uranium to build an atomic bomb by the end of this year.Could Iran be building an atomic bomb? When the US released a new National Intelligence Estimate (NIE) late last year, it seemed as though the danger of a mullah-bomb had passed. The report claimed to have information indicating that Tehran mothballed its nuclear weapons program as early as autumn 2003. The paper also said that it was "very unlikely" that Iran would have enough highly enriched uranium -- the primary ingredient in atomic bombs -- by 2009 to produce such a weapon. Rather, the NIE indicated "Iran probably would be technically capable of producing enough (highly enriched uranium) for a weapon sometime during the 2010-2015 timeframe."
It didn't take long for experts to question the report's conclusion that Tehran was no longer interested in building the bomb. And now, a new computer simulation undertaken by European Union experts indicates that the NIE's time estimates might be dangerously inaccurate as well -- and that Iran might have enough fuel for a bomb much earlier than was previously thought.
Read it all.

There must be some mistake here. Why would a jihadist government want nuclear weapons?

What has the EU been doing for the last six years? Didn't they say negotiations were the way to go? More "peace in our time"?

It's good to see that the atomic weapons warning is coming from the EU this time. The sceptics can't call this one a Bush / Blair conspiracy.
From the stories we hear in the MSM, you would think that the EU's primary concern was humane treatment of prisoners at Gitmo.

What was that song, how did it go. “The runaway train came down the track and she blew, she blew.” well to put it quiet bluntly, nothing happened to the runaway train: its going still. Unfortunately in the real world, runaway trains finally hit the buffers and crash. Now being the cynic I am, or to be more correct realist that I am. Anybody got any ideas of when this train will hit the buffers?

One of the scariest things about the swamp of incompetence Bush has inflicted on our government is that their pronouncements are completely untrustworthy and embarrassing. I wish it were so easy as to just accept the opposite of their conclusions, but most things aren't either/or.

I've said this before, and I'll stick by what I'm saying until I draw my last breath: You need to be prepared to take care of yourself and your family if things get crazy.
Usually I am a very optimistic person. However, there is smoke on the horizon and serious problems could arrive from many different angles. Islamists with nukes making good on their threats is just one of those problems. I'm not advocating that you quit your job and become a survivalist- but if you're concerned about the things you see happening, then NOW is the time to get ready. Maybe it's nothing more than paying off unsecured lines of credit; maybe it's planting a garden; or learning some new skills, or a better way to protect yourself. For heavens sake, don't just sit idly by and become a victim while waiting for "the people in charge" to do something. Identify where you're personally vulnerable and take action to secure those vulnerabilities as best you can.
Pray. Plan. Prepare.
at February 22, 2008 9:44 AM
And then..........? Oh right! Islamic Jihad, nuclear style.
Sorry I asked.

livefreeordie - Agree. Do you happen to know any good websites to get more info on preparation?
Islam, liberals, illegals, Obama, it seems to never end, and only gets worse.

Rohan (love that name!!),
Easiest place to look: There are some Yahoo groups geared towards emergency preparedness, and 'urban homesteading' that I look at and have gleaned some good ideas. I don't know of your beliefs, so I will "warn" you now that some of the groups are Christian, others are sorta' LDS (the Mormon church is big into emergency preparedness). Like anywhere else, there are people and ideas and opinions you'll not agree with but there are plenty of helpful folks, too. People live in different areas, so not everything is useful or applicable to me but I have gotten a lot of good information and ideas.
Wish there was a way to communicate off the list so I could be more specific about...
I'm thankful you're even thinking about such issues! You lose nothing by being prepared.

"For heavens sake, don't just sit idly by and become a victim while waiting for "the people in charge" to do something."
livefreeordie!,
That's just about the best advice anyone can give.
This is our problem. We sit anxiously by, watching everything go to hell, and feel helpless because "the people in charge" haven't said: "Okay, you can defend yourselves, now."
Preparedness is the lynchpin of self (and family) defense. It's a good antidote to the anxiety, too.
Thanks for the reminder!

There must be some mistake here. Why would a jihadist government want nuclear weapons?
because they are basically children throwing a temper tantrum. The USA has nuclear weapons, along with Israel there two biggest enemies they just have to have one even though I do not believe they really know how dangerous the atom is! And I believe if they build the atomic bomb and have a rocket capable of reaching the USA or Israel. They will use it for blackmail of both countries, i.e. you replace your constitutions with sharia law and make the Koran. The basis for a new constitution, a Islamic constitution like Iran has and everyone must put their ass in the air five times a day and pray towards Mecca and the moon god, à llha in other words, become Muslim world, we will use the bomb
at February 22, 2008 11:03 AM
There was never any doubt in my mind what Iran was continuing to plan and build. But that shouldn't surprise anyone that knows me.
Oh, btw, I'm not dead, and neither is the Anvil. I expect to have things up and running to some degree no later than Feb. 24th and possibly sooner. New much more powerful (and expensive) hosting company. The tech support actually answers the phone on the first ring every time I call -- and they all speak perfect English. Wow. No outsourcing. I guess miracles do happen.
Like the Phoenix I shall rise again. :)

Livefreeordie - Thanks for the info! I'm a lapsed catholic. Have no use for organized religion, but consider myself "spiritual" in a "the force be with you" kind of way. Googled "urban homesteading" and am getting some good info and additional links. Considering I live in the hurricane zone, it just makes good sense to plan anyway.

Added to those good suggestions above, find a way to generate minimal power for yourself, learn to live without (gasp) a telephone/cellphone, have a shortwave receiver minimum, and above all, get in shape enough to allow going from a to b on your feet.
It may save your life, even if we are blessed and nothing happens for the near future.

The best we can hope for here is a "workplace accident". Our governments are not going to stop this. Does anyone else remember the "I will not allow North Korea to acquire nuclear weapons" speech by President Bush? Then the underground test happened. Yeah... that policy worked well.

Darcy,
I read that article...I noted this
In Islam, we are held accountable for everything we say. We believe all sins are forgivable except for one sin. This sin is not murder, it is not theft, it is an utterance or lack of utterance of the tongue.
Muslims believe if you pray or call out to a god other than Allah, then this takes a person out of the fold of Islam, and if one dies in this state, they pay the ultimate price of going to hellfire.
Hmmmmmmmmmmm,so maybe thats why jihadis can lie, suicide bomb, behead innocent people, and they're as pure as the wind driven desert sands....loopholes.loopholes.......

I own a booklet about Nostradamus from a German author. He predicts the next world war for 2010 and it will last 11 years. It seems to involve a bomb thrown on Israel. Southern Europe will be contanimated.

I really cannot see how it is possible for the US to attack Iran and win. You invent the same ol bullshit about how they have weapons and they are connected to al-qaeda and they sponsor terrorism. Has Bush not lied before?
Iran has every right to build weapons to defend their country. If they use it against anyone then by all means seek a war with them. The US has how many weapons? Israel has how many. Iran doesn't even have one. Yet your president wants a war with them.
Ahmadinejad didn't even say I will nuke America and Israel find out what he really said. He's words are no different to what you would expect from a spokesman for amnesty international.
You hold such far-fetched beliefs about Muslims and the Qu'ran. You don't know Islam, thats why you hate. You're all paranoid people, best advice for you is not to hide somewhere but to find out the real issue from trustworthy sources, not your government who lie endlessly about threats that aren't even there. Your enemy is not Muslims but your own government who scare you to accept whatever they tell you.
kittybootz
associating partners with god, yes, is something that god does not forgive. But that does not mean the other things you have mentioned are OK and are forgivable.

Your enemy is not Muslims but your own government who scare you to accept whatever they tell you.
Your enemies are not the West or infidels, but the imams who preach hate and whip your fanatical beliefs into a suicidal frenzy.
It will be tragic to see a country destroyed over the fantasies of a few nuts that think some other nut, dead for centuries, is going to fly out of a well on a dead horse.
If you want fantasies, pitch the enrichment program and rent a Disney movie.
Otherwise, it is inevitable that the West will eventually Rock the Casbah, Rock the Casbah!

He didn't lie about weapons in Iraq, and al-qaeda? I'll get real mate this is what your media said:
Ahmadinejad: I think the Israeli government is a fabricated government' CBS, CNN, FOX news, MSNBC, ABC.
But if they were to take the whole statement it would read something a bit like this:
'and I have talked about the solution. The solution is a democracy. We have said allow the Palestinian people to participate in a free and fair referendum to express their views. What we are saying only serves the cause of durable peace. We want durable peace in that part of the world. A durable peace will only come about once the views of the people are met.'
Conclusion: he's a terrorist who wants Israel off the map.
He came to Columbia university and was asked that question why not click the link and find out what he said. If he said in plain English I want to destroy Israel then I'll shut my mouth.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SasarlM3K3s
If he has poured scorn on Israel just because they are Jews, show me and I'll keep shut.
Imams don't preach jack shit to me, if they do say go out there and kill a non-believer (never heard of an infidel by the way) which I have never come across, I wouldn't listen to it. Unlike you, I would look at a situation and analyse it properly from both angles. It's your fantasy to suggest these imams spend all their time calling for war. It's want you want to believe. I have no enemies and because of that I won't cower in a corner and believe everything I hear.
If you wish to destroy Iran then go ahead and try. Iran is Afghanistan and Iraq to the power 10. US forces are still fighting in these countries seven years after the war began. I don't see how a war in Iran will solve anything. And you wouldn't be calling for war if you had a child or a relative in Iraq or Afghanistan fighting a war that does not benefit you whatsoever. Your generals don't share your over-confidence.
Furthermore why should Iran relinquish their weapons program when you have thousands of these weapons. Are they even developing weapons is what I want to know. I've heard the same story about weapons and al-qaeda before, are you going to duped twice?

saracen...here is how it will happen... we will do nothing. We won't have to.
The racist cat's paw of the racist well circling Hojatieh will attempt to get a nuke into Israel. They may succeed. It will not stop Israel. If Hizballah succeeds there will be tens of thousands of dead Palestinians, whose suffering will make play out of anything that will have gone before. Only the Zionists and crusaders will actually help them.
Iran will suffer 20-30 million dead in next 36 hours.
The Al Saud will shower heaps of abuse on the stiff necked sons of apes and pigs, and then finish off all the Glenmorangie in the Hijaz as they go wheels up for Vegas. The Al Sabah will remain silent as they and the Omanis pray for the wind to remain out of the west.
Even the muslim brotherhood will shake in their shoes.
In Washington the cynical libs and paleos will toast each other in Moet and Dom for having held back and compelled the Israelis to do it.
And it will all be because the mullahs believe their own press, that the god of the Quran is a racist god, anxious to make an example out of group, and will prove to this planet that those who believe such trash will in the end kill their society. The mullahs BELIEVE the jews are stealing arab children's eyes, and that they are bacteria, that the jews use gentile blood to make matzah, and in the certitude of najas. The mullahs are the KKK and Jim Crow with the power of a nation and the license of violence of a national govt.
Because they WILL act on such impulses, in much of Iran, there will no two stones left atop one another when they are gone. But don't worry, cockroaches do well in such circumstances, they can even tolerate strontium 90

Yes, but both governments and their infrastructure were gone in a couple of weeks, and that's the point: we don't want some hallucinating fascist coordinating the efforts of the whole population.
Your generals don't share your over-confidence.
Our generals know the American political climate is not right to allow sufficient control of an occupied country. Don't confuse that will lack of capability to destroy the same country.
A mushroom cloud on their nightly news will change the political climate instantly. They won't bother to take a poll. Count on it.
