LONDON - Clad in mud-smeared combat fatigues, the young Muslims trained on picturesque British farmland, hurling imaginary grenades, wielding sticks as mock rifles and chopping watermelons in simulated beheadings.
A four-year inquiry, which came to a close Tuesday with guilty pleas from the last two of seven gang members, has exposed a network of alleged British terrorism training camps meant to prepare recruits for mass murder.
Security officials believe hundreds of men — including a gang that made a failed attempt to bomb London's transit network — passed through camps set up across the English countryside.
Investigators say it was a worrying discovery at the heart of Britain's homegrown terrorism: training camps once thought to be exclusive to northern Pakistan or Afghanistan are being held in sleepy rural England.
"The exposure to that ideology — that radicalism, that extremism, that 'them-and-us' mind set — starts here on our streets in Britain," a former extremist, Ed Husain, told Britain's first police counterterrorism conference in Brighton.
Husain said British officials had been too tolerant of Islamic radicalism taught in universities and mosques during the 1980s and '90s.
The two training camp ringleaders — one who claimed to be the "No. 1 al-Qaida in Europe" and the other who nicknamed himself "Osama bin London" — will be sentenced next month on charges of running the camps and inciting participants to murder. Five others were each sentenced Tuesday to at least 3 1/2 years in prison on charges of attending terrorism training.
And after those 3 1/2 years or so, then what? Deportation? Loss of citizenship? Something like control orders?
Their convictions — two Tuesday, one last year and the rest last week following a four-month trial — could be reported for the first time Tuesday after a judge lifted restrictions banning publication of details of the case.
Prosecutors told a court hearing that the men set up camps in idyllic spots across England to train in military skills.
National parks in the Lake District of northern England, the New Forest in the south and quiet corners of the southern counties of Berkshire, Kent and East Sussex were all used for training, including a former school.
"This was not innocent activity taking place on a camping weekend," said Peter Clarke, Britain's most senior conterterrorism detective.
Officials fear the case shows that British Muslims can be radicalized, trained and funded to carry out terror attacks — without ever leaving the country.
The British camps also offer a glimpse of the training centers that British-based Islamic extremists allegedly hoped to open in Oregon before authorities upended the plot.

3-1/2 years will go by fast, especially if you're reading the koran every waking minute in a British prison. When one comes out, one is strengthened and refreshed, ready for what must be done.
Deportation? Hardly. these are "British Muslims" that as the man says have been "radicalized."
The UK authorities neither know what is the problem nor what is the fitting solution.
There are those of us who know--or suspect that we know--but we aren't about to say anything.

I used to know this guy. He used to come down to Speakers' Corner at Hyde Park in London where he would talk about his wish for infidels to be killed by the cowardly soldiers of Allah.
I remember him as being very charming but totally brainwashed in the ways of Islam, and very susceptible to being totally beaten by logic.
He and the goons who surrounded him threatened my family and I with death and rape on many occasions, but I never cowered in the face of their primitive threats.
I remember him seething with rage when I pointed out that Muhammad was a dirty pervert for having raped the child Aishah.
Once, when he threatened me when not surrounded by his protectors, I landed a rather spectacular punch on his chin before making off for Marble Arch tube. My last view of him, before he was whisked away for his trial, was of him clinging to the railings so that he wouldn't fall over.

With guilty pleas, why is any of this still "alleged"? Hasn't it been proven or admitted to? If not, those gang members had awful representation.

The BBC's report of this story noted: "Among those to have passed through Hamid's camps were the four failed suicide bombers of 21 July 2005. All four of the men responsible for the failed bombings were friends of Hamid". With friends like this swine, who needs enemies?

Imagine trying to fight a war without a clue as to what motivates your enemy or governs his strategy for your destruction. Actually, you don’t have to work too hard to get your head around such an insane idea; it is the current practice of the United States government.
This is not, of course, the way it is supposed to be. According, for example, to the Pentagon’s own guidelines as reflected in the Army’s Field Manual 34-130 dealing with Intelligence Preparation of the Battlefield (IPB), one of the first tasks in any conflict is to “Evaluate the threat.” This job requires military personnel to “update or create threat models: convert threat doctrine or patterns of operation to graphics (doctrinal templates); describe in words the threat’s tactics and options; [and] identify high value targets.”
Such guidance is eminently sensible and needed, not only at the tactical or battlefield level, but also at the strategic level. In fact, most national security practitioners would find it, well, unimaginable to try to do otherwise.
Yet, Stephen Coughlin, one of the very few people working for the U.S. government who has rigorously studied the current “threat doctrine” – the wellspring in the traditions, practices and Shariah Law of today’s totalitarian ideology known as Islamofascism – is, as of this writing, still being cashiered at the end of next month.
Worse yet, the individual who seems to be most responsible for shutting down Mr. Coughlin’s essential doctrinal analysis and training by driving him out of the Pentagon – one Hesham Islam – seems to be staying in a sensitive position working for the Defense Department’s Deputy Secretary, Gordon England. This notwithstanding serious questions raised about Mr. Islam’s public biography, conduct in relation to Muslim outreach, the Coughlin affair and his top secret security clearance.
To recap: Coughlin is the author of an impressive 330-page master’s thesis on the subject which was recently accepted by the Defense Intelligence University. He currently works under contract to the Joint Chiefs of Staff, a job for which he is well suited as an Army Reserve Major, trained strategic intelligence analyst and attorney. His thesis brilliantly argues that jihad, or Islamic warfare, is rooted in the Islamists’ Shariah Law. According to the Army doctrine, it is the enemy’s conception of his doctrine that is the basis for developing threat templates and the threat model – not our uncritical assumptions about what “root causes” inspires him. As Maj. Coughlin observes, we are not at war with a “theory of terrorism.”
Maj. Coughlin has developed an intimate understanding not only of the “enemy threat doctrine.” He has also analyzed its “order of battle” including, notably, the various front organizations operated in America by the Muslim Brotherhood. Documents entered into evidence last year by the Department of Justice in the course of the Holy Land Foundation terrorism conspiracy trial offered insights into the stated objective of the Brotherhood – namely, the destruction of the United States from within. The Justice Department has also named names, identifying among many others, the Islamic Society of North America (ISNA) as a Muslim Brotherhood front.
Unfortunately, thanks to Hesham Islam, ISNA has been of late the preeminent vehicle for Pentagon “outreach” efforts to the American Muslim community. When Mr. Coughlin warned the Pentagon leadership of the error of such contacts, he was pressed by Mr. Islam to desist. Shortly after the former refused to do so, his contract with the Joint Chiefs of Staff was not renewed because, as one unnamed officer told the Washington Times’ Bill Gertz, it had “gotten too hot” to keep Mr. Coughlin on the job.
Some in Congress who have taken an interest in the Coughlin affair have been led to believe that Mr. Coughlin’s contract was not re-upped for reasons having nothing to do with his altercation with Mr. Islam, that he was getting a job in the Office of the Secretary of Defense and that Mr. Islam was going to be leaving the Pentagon. It appears they have been misled.
As of now, the Defense Department’s best hope for understanding – and drawing the appropriate insights from – the Islamofascist threat doctrine will be separated from the government at the end of March. An appointment that would allow Maj. Coughlin to continue his vital work in a position within the Office of the Secretary of Defense is reportedly being blocked by Under Secretary of Defense Eric Edelman or one of his subordinates.
Meanwhile, serious questions about not only Mr. Islam’s possible ties to the Muslim Brotherhood organization but his truthfulness in describing his personal history seem to have gone unanswered. One of America’s most accomplished investigative reporters, Claudia Rosett, was unable to confirm various colorful claims made by this Egyptian expatriate on a Pentagon website. The Department’s response to date has been to remove the page from that site. Mr. Islam evidently remains what Deputy Secretary England has called him: “a close personal confidante.” In the counter-intelligence heyday of the Cold War, would outreach to suspected Soviet front organizations have been so blithely dismissed?
In the current War for the Free World, it is nothing less than a scandal that America is still trying to win it with so much confusion about the doctrine of our enemies, to say nothing of having some fact-based hypothesis and understanding of those who may seek to replace our constitutional order with a Shariah Law-based one. As Maj. Coughlin argues, “If we fail to align the enemy to his doctrine,” then our strategies and comprehension of the threat will likewise be “misaligned.”
Steve Coughlin’s insights and capabilities are needed today more than ever. Effective congressional intervention, including hearings, may be required to ensure that the services of those who understand the threat posed by the Muslim Brotherhood and its ilk are retained. No less importantly, individuals who express sympathy for or otherwise abet the purposes of one of our enemies’ most insidious and successful instruments, the Muslim Brotherhood, have no place in the United States government.

If this kind of thing goes on in a reltively small country like Britain, What's going on in our own country with it's vast national and State parks and wilderness areas? They could be building an atom bomb in Montana, and we wouldn't have a clue until it's detonated in a major American city.
Since Muslims are the only ones that do such things, why does Britain and America even allow them in their countries?
I wonder how many people have to die before the ideologues in Washington and London wake up and do something. Evidently 9/11 wasn't enough.

I hope the powers-that-be keep upending such plots here in the USA.
Looks like Islamic extremists want to train jihadis for a street war against non-believers, as well as individual acts of violence and sedition.
I live near "Dearbornistan" (large number of ME immigrants) in Michigan, and must consider this type of threat personally.
When and if the radicals act in any great number, I will be ready.
So will my neighbors.
Get some training in self-defense, preferably from a former Marine.
I don't see fundamental Islam losing any steam in its volatile, cancerous spread.

When I first looked at this photo, he reminded me of some of the Amish gentlemen that I used to see driving their horse-drawn wagons to the market. Then I looked a little closer. The Amish were usually clean and allways had excellent hygiene. This guy looks like he needs a bath.

Hamid was never faithful, the relative allegedly said, returning from one trip to Greece with a venereal disease. He served three prison sentences, even turning up to his mother's funeral in handcuffs.

His turn to religion was the most surprising to his family, brought on by his father's death. He had an arranged marriage with a woman in India who wears the full veil and shortly afterwards made a family pilgrimage to Mecca in Saudi Arabia. But his turn to radicalism saw him try and recruit his nephews some of whom still lived in Batley.
"He was really a criminal and I think he only turned to religion for the attention," the relative said.
"But he hated Britain and told his nephews the whole country should be Islamic and they should kill non-believers."
Hamid was born into an Indian family living in Tanzania and moved to Britain when he was four, joining his brother and sister in London at the age of 12. In his first brush with the law as a teenager he was caught shoplifting fish fingers and a can of sweet corn. He left school at 16 and worked as an apprentice in a Fiat garage.
Hamid said he started to travel after finishing his apprenticeship, going to music festivals at Glastonbury and Reading, to beaches and nightclubs in Cornwall and traveling abroad to the Greek Islands, France, Germany, Spain and Italy. By 19 Hamid was drinking, going to nightclubs, smoking cannabis and committing burglaries for money.
He was sent to a Young Offenders Institution but carried on the burglaries after his release, meeting his first wife, Linda. They had a daughter together but she was still a baby when Hamid was arrested, this time for robbery, and sent to prison. The marriage lasted until Hamid was 32, when the couple separated and soon afterwards Hamid was introduced to crack cocaine.
To clean himself up, Hamid moved to India where he met and married his second wife, a committed Muslim, who wore a veil. They went on to have four children, now aged one, five, ten and 12. He returned to his council house in Britain and turned his life to Islam.
In 1997 he opened a bookshop in Hackney, east London, 10 minutes from his home, called the Al-Quran Islamic Book Centre, attracting visitors from as far afield as Scotland to chat away from the "strict" atmosphere of the mosques. In all he estimated more than 300 people visited the shop and, after it closed in 2004, meetings at his home in Almack Road.
Hamid became a disciple of the radical preacher Abdullah el-Faisal, later jailed for incitement to murder, and despite his turn to Islam he was arrested in March 2000 with six others accused of falsely imprisoning a man and woman, although the charges were later dropped.
In the wake of the September 11 attacks, Hamid bought a step ladder and began preaching at Speakers Corner in Hyde Park. Three months later, just after the US attacks on Afghanistan, he set off for Karachi in southern Pakistan to deliver hospital equipment, travelling across the border into Afghanistan and going on to Kandahar, the site of the Taliban's last stand, and then Kalat, high in the mountains of northern Afghanistan. He was later to boast of his "links" but never specified what they were.
Back in Britain, Hamid was seen by neighbours with the radical preacher Abu Hamza outside Finsbury Park mosque in North London, although he claimed he had never met the cleric. It was through the bookshop in 2003 that Hamid met Yassin Omar, the Warren Street bomber, and through him that he met Muktar Ibrahim, the leader of the July 21 gang, when they were introduced at Edmonton mosque.
Ramzi Mohammed, the Oval bomber, met Hamid at Speaker's Corner, he said, when he arrived with Hussain Osman, the Shepherd's Bush bomber, and a few others from south and west London. They joined him on the camping trip to the Lake District in 2004 and Hamid said: "It was a case of the more the merrier."]

Nah mate the awakening has begun and the more stories like this get published the better. Even some of the "intelectual elite" in the UK and Europe are begining to get jittery. The ordinary people are begining to question all the shit about "religion of Peace" etc.
The establishment is begining to pass stricter laws and keeping a closer eye on things. The questions relating to the "rights" of minorities under the law are coming under more and more scrutiny both in the press and on the street. I know lots of former left leaning people who are more and more alarmed at what is going on.......
We are more inteligent than the enemy gives us credit for.
The mistake these cretins are making is not following the maxim "allways treat your opponent as if he is at least as inteligent as you" Given that they are morons some people might get upset at this.

I endorse the sentiments of ericthekuffar. Europe is not 'finished'. The people of Europe are waking up with the help of websites like this.
Elections are in the offing. What is needed is for concerned citizens to put themselves up for public office and to take the courage to express their views on militant Islam clearly and succinctly. The voters are fed up with the prevarication of politicians on this issue.
We face the worst threat since the days of the blackshirts.

I think it's sad that treason couldn't have been an additional charge. I know that back in '05 that was discussed and waved about as a threat by the Attorney General's Office.

Muslims push for Jewish dialogue
Jewish leaders have welcomed an unprecedented open letter from Muslim communities around the world calling for "positive and constructive action" to improve relations.
The landmark document decries tensions between the two faiths and calls for further dialogue and an end to the Israeli Palestinian conflict.
It said: “Jews and Muslims today stand apart from each other due to feelings of anger, which in some parts of the world, translate into violence. It is our contention that we are faced today not with ‘a clash of civilizations’ but with ‘a clash of ill-informed misunderstandings’."
Signatories of the letter, launched at the Muslim and Jewish relations department of Cambridge University’s Woolf Institute of Abrahamic Faiths on Monday, included professor Tariq Ramadan, Sheikh Suhaib Hasan Secretary General of the Islamic Sharia Council, the Muslim Council of Britain’s Ibrahim Mogra, Professor Sari Nusseibeh President of Al Quds University, and Sheikh Mustafa Ceric The Grand Mufti of Bosnia.

The letter from a handful of Muslims to Jews, supposedly calling for "dialogue," is one more transparent publicity stunt. Or, rather, its mendacity, deliberate and cunning, is transparent to those who are fully informed about the texts of Islam, and know exactly the things that have been misstated, and the things which have been so carefully left out.

This farcical letter, first announced, fittingly, by the sinister smyler-with-the-knyf-under-his-cloke Tariq Ramadan, will fool those who want to be fooled. It is of a piece with, the "Jewish" version of, that supposedly big-hearted letter signed by 138 prominent Muslims, calling for a "Muslim-Christian dialogue." Ballyhooed at first, that document has been subject to study by those same well-informed (see the analysis put out by the Barnabas Fund, or that by Patrick Poole put up just yesterday at Jihad Watch), and shown to be a consciously meretricious effort to mislead the world's Christians about the nature of Muslim teachings -- spelled out in the studies -- concerning Christianity and Christians.
This kind of thing, these attempts to so completely mislead, first Christians and now, with the letter released in Cambridge, England, Jews, not only fail entirely to impress -- except perhaps with the terminally naive -- but are doing a great deal to alarm, those who recognize such propaganda for the semi-plausible farrago of nonsense and lies that both efforts so clearly are. There are fools, and wise men, and many in-between, but the Muslim effort so far is predicated on Infidels continuing to exhibit a high proportion of the fools, but their efforts are pushing those "many in-between" to become as wise men.

I'm so glad I was in London at the beginning of 2002; in fact, the world was still reeling from the 9/11 NYC attack, and all of the major cities were on high alert, so I felt very safe. I believe that I caught the very tail-end of whatever intelligent vigilance the U.K. still had.
I was treated very well by the British who seemed to have almost a sentimental protectivemenss towards me, an American woman. People I met assured me that the U.K. would always stand by the U.S., especially since we had been their #1 allies in WWII.
I'm glad that I toured England when I did, as it might have been during the last recognizable semblance of historical Britian. How sad and how tragic.
