"Freedom of speech must not be used to make a billion Muslims cry." Terrific line, but wait a minute. Can free speech that makes anyone cry then be allowed? And if not, how exactly is it freedom of speech at all?
Democracy on the March Update: "Afghan Lawmakers Challenge Danish Prophet Cartoon, Dutch Film Criticizing Koran," from AP (thanks to Report on Arrakis):
KABUL, Afghanistan — More than 200 lawmakers shouted "Death to the enemies of Islam" during an angry demonstration outside the Afghan parliament protesting the reprinting of a cartoon of Prophet Muhammad in Denmark and an upcoming Dutch film criticizing the Quran. The lawmakers from the upper and lower houses of parliament chanted and pounded their fists in the air, urging the Danish and Dutch governments to prevent blasphemy against Islam.
"We want the world community, the U.N. and the Organization of the Islamic Conference to react against these kinds of activities, and not allow any countries to cause such confrontations and dangerous challenges among Muslim communities," lawmaker Mohammad Saleh Suljoqi read from a statement. [...]
They demanded that the Afghan Foreign Ministry summon envoys from Denmark and the Netherlands to discuss the matter. They also urged the Danish and Dutch governments to prevent such acts in their countries.
On Monday, Afghan Foreign Minister Rangin Dadfar Spanta told reporters during a visit to Denmark that he respected differences in cultures, but suggested Danish newspapers abused freedom of expression when they reprinted the cartoons three weeks ago.
Spanta said freedom of speech should be used to promote "equality and peace between nations" and to exchange information.
"Freedom of speech must not be used to make a billion Muslims cry," he said.[...]

"and not allow any countries to cause such confrontations and dangerous challenges among Muslim communities"
Exactly what makes it dangerous? After all, Islam is the "Religion of Peace". So you aren't saying that any Muslims would react dangerously, are you? Of course not.
(By the way, I have a bridge in Brooklyn I can sell you.)

Could this attitude be the reason that the Danes are acting as they do. This has just popped up on the Radar screen in Denmark, I have just translated this short piece for your pleasure. Don't you just hate those pesky Danes using there common sense and that very large middle finger they tend to display too anyone who tries to talk sense into there thick Scandinavian Skulls. No wonder the Afghan's are a bit peeved.
In 2006 and 2007 Denmark accepted 1,004 quota refugees from the U.N. Refugee camps out of these 89% were from non-muslim lands such as the Congo Bhutan and Myanmar but only 11% were from Muslim lands as Sudan and Iraq in relationship to Denmark in 2001 and 2002 84% of their Quota refugees were from Sudan and Iraq.
One of the reasons Denmark does not chose refugees from muslim lands is a change in the Alien laws in 2005
Here it was decided that the quota refugees should be chosen for there integration potential in Denmark and has had an effect on which land Denmark accepts quota refugees from explained deputy chief for the Alien service Eva Singer.

"Freedom of speech must not be used to make a billion Muslims cry"
You're not saying that Muslims are crybabies, are you?
Christianity is far superior to Islam. We convince people to become Christians by loving them; Muslims convince people to become Muslims by holding a gun to their head.
And that, my friends, is one of the most important differences between the two religions.
What amazes me, though, is that every single Muslim in the world knows that there is a gun to their head, not allowing them to leave Islam. So why don't they wake up and realize that this means that Islam can't stand on it's own merits; it HAS to force people to join, and then force them to stay Muslims.

KABUL, Afghanistan — More than 200 lawmakers shouted "Death to the enemies of Islam" during an angry demonstration . . . .
I guess they must want death for their fellow Moslems, since they're being killed in large numbers every day in attacks by their fellow Moslems: 40 in an Iraqi market, 60 at a Pakistani funeral, etc. These bombers weren't infidels. In the words of Pogo: "We have met the enemy, and he is us."

Afghan lawmakers chant "We are humorless idiots with childlike brains, slaves of a vicious deity called Allah, followers of a bloodthirsty, sex-obsessed 7th century pirate called Mohammed. We are totally incapable of handling criticism. We demand the right to act like children everyplace and everywhere, deliberately crapping our diapers to stink up the room at the slightest perceived verbal slight. We demand total respect from the world for this kind of behavior, or else . . . we will deliberately crap our diapers and stink up the room."

Whose equality?--- whose peace?-- No thank you.
Don't these people have more important things to do, like rebuilding their country that is a self induced and pitiful shambles..
The people of Afghanistan live in Country that has been all but destroyed by rampant violence, murder, and suppression of women, and any other religion all in the name of Mohammed and it is a country that has no problem selling heroin all over the world to help destroy lives and yet they want to criticise the exercisers of free speech and the greatest promotors of peace.
There is no equality in Afghanistan, there is no peace in Afghanistan'
hypocrites,all of them!!

The real reason the muslim leaders are so upset about the cartoons and film isn't that they are 'offended' as much as they are 'terrified'.
The are terrified that someone might start questing their belief. That someone might begin to wonder if Mo. is all he is cracked up to me. That someone might start loosing some respect for the Prophet and start down the slippery slope...
Terrified that some of their slaves might wonder 'Why?".
Much like the grasshoppers (?) in the animation 'Ants' who are terrified that the ants, who outnumber them thousands to one, might start to think and wonder why they are gathering food for someone else.

Guess this says a lot for the Bush/Condi/Rumsfeld ‘hearts & minds’ great, democracy give-way plan for Afghanistan. Moron afghan lawyers is our reward for spilling American blood to pass out candy bars and turn on lights for a barbaric people instead of seriously fighting a war the way a ‘Churchill’ or ‘Pershing’ would have done. Sad but I fear the next crop of Washington politicians will be far more clueless to Islamic deception than the last- if that is even possible. We simply need a few more ‘Geert Wilders’ in government.

I am trying to think of the kind of things that make "one billion Muslims" cry, or for that matter laugh. The spectacle of Bin Laden's mirth, as he and the others learned that the attack on the World Trade Center had been fulled off, with great success (just look at all those Infidels falling to earth, going straight -- zoom! -- down to the final splash and kerplunk), and all the other zany-laff-riots -- the blowing up of cafes and Seders and schoolrooms in Israel, the thigh-swatting side-splitting hilarity of those bombs in the London Tube, and at the Atocha station in Madrid, the fantastic practical joke of killing Theo van Gogh, or getting a mentally-unbalanced "animal rights activist" to defend the "most vulnerable" by killing Pim Fortuyn, all of it, all of it, it's made a billion Muslims laugh.
But to make a billion Muslims cry, only by quoting passages from the Qur'an and possiby the Hadith, passages that they know perfectly well exist, and possibly know by heart, but to put them in a film, and a film that is not made in the...."right spirit," the spirit of submissive worshipfulness, but rather in a spirit of alarm and horror.. ah, that's enough to make a grown man cry, if that man is a primitive adherent of Islam at its worst.

Yeah, Hugh, I never knew anybody who has the talent to make a billion Muslims cry. Rage, yes - like if they were to take over the al Aqsa mosque and turn it into a synagogue, but cry? I wish I had that talent. In fact, now that I know that it's that easy, I just wish I had video producing and editing skills.

Ah yes, lovely Afghanistan, another Islamic paradise on Earth that was allowed to set up its own Islamic sharia government after we expended resouces and lives in gifting the oh-so-grateful population with freedom from the oppressive burkha-masters, the Taliban.
There again, as should have been done in Iraq, the place should have had its infrastructure demolished and the populace left to crawl about the rubble, without US propping up what is another Islamic government among too many. This (as is Iraq) is a another, a second, albatross to be hung about George W. Bush's neck.
The "Afghan lawmakers" would be chanting a different tune today had U.S. money, troops and resouces not been poured into their ungrateful laps affording them a place to sit and chant.
The Afghans appear to have forgotten why they were hit right after 9-11. It was because they were hosts to the bin Laden gang and their camps of jihadists.
This--as well as Iraq--is not an ally of ours, but another Islamic crap-hole we have propped up so that it can sqawk objections to our freedoms in our lands at us.
If I weren't too polite to say it, I's say scr-w them--and the horse (or donkey) they rode in on!
Foreign Minister Spanta should be asked whether the koran promotes "equality and peace between nations" and is an innocuous instrument solely used to to exchange information.

cool ghoul,
"And just what is it that deems one an "enemy" to islam again?"
1. Pointing out its doctrines to non-Muslims.
2. Laughing at its absurdities.
3. Having wealth that could be taken by its adherents.
4. Being nearby, such that failures cased by Islam can instead be scapegoated onto the nearby entity.

Why don't they? They have a gun to their head.

"At its worst" might only cover 91 million.
Does Islam really recognize a distinction such as that?

"KABUL, Afghanistan — More than 200 lawmakers shouted "Death to the enemies of Islam"
Hilarious. Oh, my sides.
And the truly bloody unforgivable side of all of this is that, in Afghanistan, the US had many CIA agents who knew the tribes so well, spoke the lingo, knew how their system worked, blah di blah di blah.
Anyway, Dubya, his neocon clowns and the vast majority of the US electorate thought they knew better.
Why bother trying to figure out how people think, it's much easier to just give 'em demAAAAAAcracy
And now the tribes are so pissed off they'd rather do business with the much despised Wahabbis.
During the Soviet occupation of Afghanistan there wasnt' a single instance of a suicide attack against the Soviets. Not one.
And remember that the Soviets would happily vapourise an entire valley at the drop of a hat.
Democracy in action

MOT:"For these scum our soldiers are dying."
Oh, well bloody put.
I read an article about US citizens - good, decent people- who work for minimum wage, no pension, F**k friggin' all. Good honourable Yanks. They have bugger all medical benefits and it seems that the US govt and the US populace cares more for scum on the Hindu Kush than their own.
Scum indeed
A friggin' disgrace.
This, with Iraq, will kill the US economy.
It's that bad.
In the run up to the Iraq misadventure, the biggest critics were the CIA and the Generals, Shinseki et al
But the clowns in the White House really really thought that by giving the crazies on the Hindu Kush gob fulls of dosh they'd somehow make the World a better place. In some Bizzaro style World, Dubya lectures all about the benefits of small gov't at home, yet wants trillions for some friggin' road in Iraq. Or for a mosque -yes, friggin' mosques, I am not shittin' you folks- in Kabul.
The US economy was way too powerful for the Vietnamese balls up to seriously cause any problems. Vietnam, economically, was way out of the ballpark, and the Euro economies, though powerful, were disjointed.
Boy, what we are now witnessing is history in the making. If the US continues on this path we'll all have the luxury of having grandstand seats for a classic Empire collapse.
Differences between now and post Vietnam.
a) Japan is way more powerful
b) China. Help
c) India. Help
d) The Euro
e) The Euro
f) The Euro
g) The Euro
ad infinitum
It was almost inevitable that the NA ( Northern Alliance of North America and Europe ) would experience relative decline, BUT the last two decades of neo lib/con policymaking is making the US a joke both politically and economically.
R.I.P.
Think of the Titanic but way worse.

why its just one religion among many despite its followers believe that it must be the only religion
"We want the world community, the U.N. and the Organization of the Islamic Conference to react against these kinds of activities, and not allow any countries to cause such confrontations and dangerous challenges among Muslim communities,"why are you going to throwtemper tantrum like the children that you're acting like. Personally, I'm getting very tired of Muslim acting like their religion is the only important one. And beyond reproach or any sort of criticism in a lot of ways. Islam meets the definition of what the definition of a cult
1. A particular system of religious worship, esp. with reference to its rites and ceremonies;
like praying towards Mecca five times a day
and having a whole bunch of things you do before you are richly clean
2. An instance of great veneration of a person, ideal, or thing, esp. as manifested by a body of admirers;
that sounds like Mohamed, the so-called prophet of Islam as these very much venerated as the correct man by Muslims
3. The object of such devotion;
the Kaaba at Mecca
4. A group or sect bound together by veneration of the same thing, person, ideal, etc;
well Muslims do venerate a seventh century pedophile Mohammed as the so-called ideal man
and do always pray towards the Kaaba at Mecca five times a day
5. Group having a sacred ideology and a set of rites centering around their sacred symbols;
for Muslims consider their religion, a sacred religion and beyond criticismin and they do have a set of rite centering around a sacred symbols
buy these five things above, I would say Islam does meet the definition of a cult a rather violent cult that if you try to leave it. You can be killed

Can free speech that makes anyone cry then be allowed? And if not, how exactly is it freedom of speech at all?
If the tears are joyful, then it's allowed.
It's free speech as long as it's not "hate speech". It's freedom of speech that respects your audience and is mindful of their feelings. Your freedom of speech ends where their hurt feelings begin.

Spanta said freedom of speech should be used to promote "equality and peace between nations" and to exchange information.
Islam wants to be equal to every other religion?
Yes, the Islamic Qu'ran dictates that the Creator of the Universe blesses Its human creation if they were to walk round and around and around some rectangle of a rock in Mecca. Allah also says you are special if you pick up and throw stones at the Devil.
Only gullible and unintelligent minds would believe the crock of offal inside the Qu'ran.
Islam is equal to the Mayan and Incan religions. That's about as far as I'll go with any of my constructive freedoms of speech. All other thoughts and words will be caustic, sardonic.
