Another brilliant appearance by Wafa Sultan on Al-Jazeera. Video here (thanks to War On Hate), transcript below (thanks to A.B.), from MEMRI:
Egyptian Islamist Tal'at Rmeih: "The West only understands the language of force. Contacts with the West which are not based on real force are futile. One day, America declared that the North Korean nuclear dossier would be referred to the U.N. Security Council. North Korea issued a one-line declaration: 'Korea will consider this to be a hostile act of war.' The Americans bit their tongues, and that was it. The West understands nothing but the language of force, and attacks nobody but the weak. Therefore, our nation – with all its people, and organizations, institutions, rulers, and subjects – is required to adopt a resolute stand of resistance and confrontation in the face of these criminal and hostile acts. The West, in this confrontation, which is not divorced from the massacres that are taking place in Palestine and Iraq…The embassies of Denmark, Holland, France, and the U.S. are not more precious to us than Iraq, which has been destroyed, or than Palestine, which is experiencing a real – not fabricated – holocaust. These countries are subject to a holocaust and a massacre. How can we confront this? By Allah, if we issued a communiqué, signed by all the Arab and Islamic organizations and institutions, the West would bite its tongue and stop all this. By Allah, if the Arab summit decided to boycott Denmark, they would all be disgraced. By Allah, if the masses of the nation would gather for one hour only around the embassies of Denmark, those despicable lowlifes would be in a position of retreat, not attack."
[…]
Arab-American Psychiatrist Wafa Sultan: "All religions and faiths, throughout the history of humanity, have been subject to criticism and affronts. With time, this has helped in their reform and development. Any belief that chops off the heads of its critics is doomed to turn into terrorism and tyranny. This has been the condition of Islam, from its inception to this day. Islam has sentenced [its critics] to prison, and whoever crosses the threshold of that prison meets his death. The Danish cartoons have managed to break down the first brick in the wall of that prison, and to open up a window, through which the sunrays enter, after a lengthy darkness. The Danish newspaper exercised its freedom of speech. Liberties are the holiest thing in the West, and nothing is more important. But if Islam were not the way it is, those cartoons would never have appeared. They did not appear out of the blue, and the cartoonist did not dig them out of his imagination. Rather, they are a reflection of his knowledge. Westerners who read the words of the Prophet Muhammad 'Allah has given me sustenance under the shadow of my sword' cannot imagine Muhammad's turban in the shape of a dove of peace rather than in the shape of a bomb. The Muslims must learn how to listen to the criticism of others, and maybe then they will reexamine their terrorist teachings. When they manage to do so, the world will view them in a better light, and consequently, it will draw them in a better light. The reactions of the Muslims, which were characterized by savageness, barbarism, and backwardness, only increased the value of these cartoons, and gave them more importance than they merited, simply because they proved that these cartoons were true, and that the message they were conveying was true. The Muslim is an irrational creature ruled by instincts. Those teachings have deprived him of his mind, incited his emotions, and reduced him to the level of an inferior creature that cannot control himself or react to events rationally."
[…]
Tal'at Rmeih: "God help me. First, Islam is too great to be harmed by the publisher of the cartoon, or by that woman who is talking over there. The truth is that everything she said is 100% false, I'm sad to say. It seems to me that the American and Zionist intelligence agencies have begun to produce people who are hostile to their own nation."
[…]
Dr. Faysal Al-Qassem, Moderator: "How come freedom of expression in the West is sacred only when it comes to degrading the Muslims? Are they allowed to talk about the Holocaust? Are they allowed to talk about Christianity? That is the question. Cinemas were burned down in the West when they talked about Christ."
Wafa Sultan: "I live in America, and I never heard of a single cinema that was burned down here. Where do you get your information from? It sounds as if you are living in America, not me."
Moderator: "In France."
Wafa Sultan: "This is completely baseless. You should criticize your own beliefs just as Christians criticize their beliefs."
[…]
Moderator: "Don’t you think that you are treating the viewers like fools? You present some trivial reactions as barbaric. Have you forgotten that the country in which you live destroyed Iraq in its entirety, killing 1.5 million Iraqis and driving five million out of their homes? Didn't you see the dozens of children annihilated in Gaza, in a holocaust, as Israel itself admits? When a man blows himself up, he becomes a terrorist, but when you annihilate an entire people, whole countries, it is considered a humanitarian act?! Who are you kidding?"
[…]
Wafa Sultan: "Why are they upset about what is going on in Gaza, while the Koran says to them: 'They shall kill and be killed.' So here they are – killing and being killed. What's wrong with that?"
Tal'at Rmeih: "Leave the Koran out of it. If you want to talk politics, go ahead."
Moderator: "I beg you to stick to politics. He talked only about politics."
Wafa Sultan: "Dr. Faysal, you know that you cannot separate Islam from politics. Islam is not a religion, but politics. You must let me express my views the way I want. When you called me, you didn't say I was not allowed to discuss Islam or the Koran. Islam says to them that they will 'kill or be killed', and here they are—killing and being killed. So what's wrong with that? They want to be martyred and to meet their black-eyed virgins, and Israel is merely helping them get what they want. What's wrong with that? If you want to change the course of events, you must reexamine your terrorist teachings, you must recognize and respect the right of the other to live, you must teach your children love, peace, coexistence, and productive work. When you do that, the world will respect you, will consider you in a better light, and will draw you in a better light."
Moderator: "Can you denounce the Zionist massacres in Gaza? That's a simple question. Do you have the courage to do so?"
Wafa Sultan: "I can denounce the Palestinians and the Israelis alike. Hamas chose this path, and you have to pay the price for your choices. When you decide you want peace – I am sure that Israel wants peace, but as long as you keep reciting those teachings, which are full of hatred, rancor, and terrorism, you will be unable to make peace with others. You must recognize and respect Israel's right to live. You must teach your children love, peace, and coexistence. Only then will there be peace."
[…]
Moderator: "Do you dare to say that the number of people who died in the Jewish Holocaust is even one less [than what they claim]? Do you dare to say that? Why don't you dare to even touch on Jewish history – let alone on Jewish religion and sanctities? Why do you flex your muscles only against the oppressed Muslims?"
Wafa Sultan: "Why do you want me to deny historical documents that confirm that the Holocaust took place? If there was no proof, I would deny it. But I cannot deny history, knowledge, and documents confirming that the Holocaust indeed took place. Why do you want me to deny the facts?"
Moderator: "From what she says, it is clear that she has no problem denying the holy books, but she is adamant about not denying historical documents."
Wafa Sultan: "Can you as a Muslim deny the massacre of the Jews of the Bani Qureyza tribe, by Muhammad and his followers?"
[…]
Tal'at Rmeih: "There is a gang that controls [the West], and you are not allowed to criticize Israel or the Holocaust. Anyone who criticized the Holocaust was placed on trial. Noam Chomsky wrote one line about the Holocaust in a book, and the book was recalled from the market. Bernard Lewis – that great philosopher – said something about the Holocaust and was placed on trial. What did the American president say to the U.S. forces sent to the Philippines? He gave them two orders: 'Kill all people above the age of ten, and convert [the rest] to Christianity.'"
[…]
Wafa Sultan: "Did you invite me to the show to hear hollow speeches, which have been around for 1,400 years?"
Tal'at Rmeih: "Allah be praised, we have an identity and a culture."
Wafa Sultan: "How can someone who believes in killing people who do not pray possibly criticize liberties in the West? This is a farce. What past is he defending? Is he defending the invasions and lootings?"
Tal'at Rmeih: "I am defending the past of the Islamic nation, which was the beacon of knowledge for the entire world…"
Wafa Sultan: "…polygamy, beheadings, chopping of heads and feet on alternate sides, accusing people of heresy, and drinking camel urine, as a cure for all ailments – is this the past he is defending?"
Incredible bigotry from Rmeih in 3... 2...
Tal'at Rmeih: "No, I am defending a magnificent past of a magnificent nation, which was the cradle of knowledge and civilization, at a time when the most that people in the West could do was to catch a rabbit and scurry back to their caves. This nation has made the greatest contribution to civilization and humanity. Our religion is not complete without recognition of other religions. We are the ones who have called for tolerance and respect for religions."

I want all Muslims that monitor this blog to know that this statement is from a fellow traveler, whom I believe to be in a better position to criticize Islam then any of us. Can you reply to such questions? Or are you going to spend your time insulting the "wicked messenger"?

As an Italo American ROMAN Catholic who knows her people's history and is damn proud of it, I can attest to the FACT that, 1100 years prior to the birth of Mohammed, my Roman ancestors were doing a hell of a lot more than catching rabbits when they conquered North Africa and much of the mid-east. And they didn't "scurry into caves" !They designed and built roads, acquaducts, forums, temples, courts, villas, and BATHS (try one sometime) throughout their empire, some of those roads and acquaducts still stand today.
N.B.: rent Monty Pythons' Life of Brian for a sweet scene answering the question "What did those Romans ever do for us?"

Also, although the Romans may have been harsh in their rule of Israel, the way the US is judged in this world makes me wonder if Rome was given a bad shake with the historians of the day.

"I am defending a magnificent past of a magnificent nation, which was the cradle of knowledge and civilization"
"The cradle of knowledge" -- Yeah, after they stole it from the nations they conquered.
Wasn't the cradle of civilization, but rather of barbarism. Those who chop off the hands and heads of the people with whom they disagree; those who rule by mobs; those who sleep with 9-year-old girls; they are barbarians, not civilized.
Hey, Tal'at Rmeih: do you want to find out what a REAL civilization is like? Read the Book of the People of the Book, the Bible.

This is great!! Debates like this, if you can call it that since the moderator was biased, need to be available to all the west. All of those great things the moderator wants to contribute to islam were stolen by islam from other cultures and people that were conquered. A great majority of them being christian. Once Islam had forced converted the majority of the people it conquered brilliant minds ceased to think and great things stopped coming from those countries. Can't think of anything revolutionary coming out of the arab countries in the recent (900 year or so) past. As for oil, they do have that, but have had to rely on other countries to extract in and especially the great SATAN (US) to refine the oil that they reap the profits from. Again profiting from the intelligence and creativeness of others. Rather like a virus. Self centered and opportunistic to the expense of everything around it.

A lot of revolutionary military strategies have come out of Islam. For example:
* Shoot an old man in a wheel chair, and dump his body over the side of the ship.
* Put remote control bombs on mentally handicapped women, and detonate them when you are a safe distance away.
* Blow up a school bus full of children.
* Launch missiles from a hospital compound, and then blame your enemy when he shoots back and hits the hospital.
All of you out there who think Islam hasn't come up with anything, YOU'RE WRONG, WRONG, WRONG!!!

If the ROP (ha ha) wants peace, they must silence their ‘holy’ book’s call to killing and being killed for their evil god Allah. They chose death, so they die. Why are they crying? They are being true to the word of their unholy prophet, this is what they chose. Stop crying! They are getting what they want, just as your warlord (pbuh) wanted his ‘true believers’ to have. Cut the crap. There can be no peace with these killing monsters, certainly not respect for them, only death. That’s what they chose, to blow themselves up. So stop crying Muslims, and be true to your word. Kill and be killed, and worship death in your ROP. You are your own 'holocaust', killing children by your own hands.

I've only read her articles before, never seen her speak (thank you, broadband). Courageous, determined, unshakeable. I am so very, very impressed.
This interview needs to be linked to by every pro-freedom blog out there. Conservative, Left-leaning, liberal - it doesn't matter. This needs to be seen by everybody who values liberty and our hard-won freedoms.

If there's anything to reincarnation, Dr. Sultan must have been a very successful gladiator, in a previous life!
As for the rabbit-scurry, even my own hirsute, unkempt, uncouth Celtic ancestors were well past that phase, by the time Mo was born. My "red Indian" (as these warts refer to the Native Americans) ancestors were beyond this, as well.
Tal'at Rmeih is a breathing cartoon. See? There IS humor in Islam!

PMK, here is a quote of what President McKinley did say about the Philippines:
there was nothing left for us to do but to take them all, and to educate the Filipinos, and uplift and civilize and Christianize them, and by God’s grace do the very best we could by them, as our fellow-men for whom Christ also died. And then I went to bed, and went to sleep, and slept soundly, and the next morning I sent for the … War Department map-maker, and I told him to put the Philippines on the map of the United States
I think Rmeih is talking about General Jacob Smith, who threatened to kill everyone "capable of bearing arms in actual hostilities against the United States".

If there is a war - as they think there is - and they continue to believe these backward delusions, then better to let them. Confirm their beliefs, let them stay backwards, in denial, delusional. Let them fall further and further behind.
Don't point out their flaws, don't criticize their culture; in fact, just pack up and leave the Middle East.
Continue to keep oil high, so they have no incentive for progress; agree with them out their great civilization and contributions - while the West, China, India, and the rest of the world moves further into the future...then put a big fence around the arab world, and keep out any information about the outside world, and let them exist as they wish.

Re: the McKinley quote:
"there was nothing left for us to do but to take them all, and to educate the Filipinos, and uplift and civilize and Christianize them..."
Of course, this would be superfluous for those hundreds of thousands already Christianized by the Spanish. McKinley likely was referring to the most savagely refractory and rebellious category of Filipinos then (and now): the "Moros", i.e. Muslims, probably the only ones significantly resisting the American beneficence. The front line shock troops of the Filipino Muslims were the juramentados who were the most horrific -- raving homocidal-suicidal maniacs who plunged armed with long daggers into crowds to kill as many people as possible and hope they too were killed in turn so they could get to Paradise.

Sigh. I am so loathe to post this. Last time I posted a link, I was accused of playing the victim card. But heck, here goes. This is from the Edge, a gay ‘zine from Boston. The article’s title is, “Gay Adult Film Star Sparks Debate At Stanford” It seems that Michael Lucas was invited there to speak about safer sex, but he also unequivocally rebuked Islam, citing Wafa Sultan as an authority. It’s ironic that it was on the same day as Sultan’s appearance on Al-Jazeera. I really hope that this post does not cause an impertinent discussion about condom use. There's a difference between a typo and a misspelling: the former is a lapsus calami -- a slip of the pen, indicating that the writer knows the correct spelling, but simply had a "brain farct" and made a mistake due to hasty writing or absent-mindedness or distraction or whatever. The latter means that that writer in fact does not know the correct spelling and believes his incorrect spelling is correct.
My "homocide" above was a typo.

This "moderator" lives in France. The French have history of allowing these creatures to live among them. See Ayatolla komeini.
This "moderator" even stoops to "bargaining" about the number of people killed in the Holocaust. As if there is an iota of difference in its veracity or significance for the future based on whether one less than 6 million have been killed?!
Can you even believe this character?
And what exactly does the Holocaust and the number of people killed in it have to do with the KKKoran and islam?! The Holocaust is the one mass murder they don't have anything to do with.
Do they want to make sure they know the exact number of victims so they can be sure they "outperform" the Nazis?
What is WRONG with these moslems?
Just when you think you've seen it all.. heard it all.. they never cease to surprise.. their creativity when it comes to evil is positively astounding..
I really don't think they need to talk about the Holocaust until they have something relevant to say. In a respectful tone as well.

Sounds good to me, and it's always good negotiating technique to keep the other side's wishes in mind. You know, to always try for that win-win outcome. This way they'll know we respect their 'sensibilities'. After all, isn't that what multiculturalism is all about?

Gays should be extremely anti-sharia. Their lives may depend on it.

The reason why they wish to denounce or nullify the Holocaust is because of the value it gives the Jews in the eyes of the world. There deep, insane hatred for the Jewish nation is at the core of their logic.
If the can somehow revise history that removes any simpathy for the Jew when they attack, murder, slander and force public (world) opinion against the nation Israel. This then makes it easier to slaughter every last one of them.
That is their goal. It is not the land it is the total genocidal elimination of the Jewish people. If Israel moved to another part of the world they would follow and seek to kill them. Just following the teachings of the Koran is all.

Actually, they did have something to do with the Holocaust. The Mufti of Jerusalem was buddies with Hitler, and he formed an SS unit of Bosnian muslims.

I was aware of that. I was making a rhetorical point. I was "giving them the benefit of the doubt"for the sake of my argument. The Holocaust may or may not have taken place if islam never existed. They certainly gave Hitler the model. On the other hand I am pretty sure he might have come up with it on his own. Evil minds think alike, Herr Mohamet.
To Im.mad.as.HELL!: That makes a lot of sense. Thanks. I am in fact aware that a lot of moslems still revere Hitler to this day. Just have a look at all the hateful Youtube profiles and homemade movies by moslems in praise of Hitler and Nazism.
Hairraising stuff.
Youtube cows to Pakistan and erases islam-critical videos but they allow that sort of fascist material to stay around unchallenged. I call it Jihadtube.
Maybe Israel should "boycott" the tube and see what happens.. well.. I think we know the answer already..

WAFA SULTAN FOR PRESIDENT!
This lady is so awesome. I love the way she goes head to head with these fools and does not back down one bit. Blessings upon her, and may there be hundreds - thousands - more like her!

skevin,
There are many posters here of many persuasions, including openly Gay posters, and we do make common cause, because our common liberties and fundamental freedoms are marked for elimination by a common foe, fighting us on many fronts, openly and from concealment. The Counterjihad is an equal-opportunity recruiter.

"Egyptian Islamist Tal'at Rmeih: "The West only understands the language of force."
This is exactly the reason why Western governments, universities, and institutions should not cave in to demands by Muslims for special privleges and treatment. They will not regard such gestures as acts of kindness, tolerance, or respect for the sensibilities of others.
They will regard gestures of this kind as acts motivated by fear of Muslim retailation (and in many cases, they would probably be right, which will only encourage more demands for special treatment by our institutions).
If our society, and its institutions, want to avoid perpetual intimidation by Muslims, we must send them a clear and unmistakable message that they should not, and cannot, request or expect any special accomodations for their religious beliefs, that they are no different than anyone else, and will not be treated any differently.
When universities like Harvard adjust their schedules for using school facilities to accomodate the religious beliefs of Muslims, they are only setting themselves up for other demands to follow.
Every little request or demand by Muslims should be rejected in the strongest lanquage possible, so that they will understand that the institution will not be intimidated, so it is pointless trying to make future demands.
They won't appreciate anything you give them anyway. They will only see it as weakness to be exploited.

Let me be the first to (re)nominate Wafa Sultan for Anti-Dhimmi American AND International in next year's Jihad Watch Awards.
Meanwhile...
The despicable Al Jazeera, in a press release, has already apologized to its audience for airing Wafa Sultan.

Like this scurrying rat on the opposite side of Wafa, the enemy needs to lie to make us look bad, we need only speak the truth about Islam and the culture it spawns to condemn it. The truth hurts the enemy so badly it cannot bear to hear it. Bravo, Wafa, Bravo.

I really hope that this post does not cause an impertinent discussion about condom use. I put it here to demonstrate that not all gays are PC. You guys need all the allies you can get.
Skevin, thanks for the link. Jihadwatch in fact covered Michael Lucas's row with Stanford in this thread from Feb 16th:
http://www.jihadwatch.org/dhimmiwatch/archives/019982.php#comments
As you can see from the comments, he won rave reviews from JW'ers for his guts in spelling out the facts about Islam and for his stinging rebuke to the Stanford moonbats (If you want to see real illiberal views, take a look at the comments section of the Stanford Daily article mentioned in the above thread.)
Sorry if you had a bad response to a previous post. There may be some exceptions, but I think that most people commenting here recognise that gays are near the top of the list of Islamist hate targets - "canaries in the coalmine" as a commenter in the above thread puts it. And of course, we all know the contributions of gay anti-Islamists like Bruce Bawar and the martyred Pim Fortuyn, even Irshad Manji, in her own denialist way.
But yeah, Michael Lucas - a mensch. Let's hope we see more like him.

"How has islam advanced itself? Not including innovations/inventions from the barbaric west. [Posted by: Mr Ape Pig]"
"Answer: Oil. That is all. An accident of geology. [Posted by: darcy]"
"...Counter-point: But the west gave/gives oil its value. It took the West to get it out of the ground.

Counter-counter-Point: And, THEN, it took the genius of the West to come up with practical devices and magnificent machinery [not only to profitably find it and extract it, but] to make use of the stuff afterwards..."Islam" would have "invented" what? Scooping it up in jars, stuffing an old rag in it, and setting it aflame to illuminate the darker recesses of their caves and [sand]CASTLES???

The muslims don't "hate" the Jewish nation. They're commanded by the Koran to force all other peoples to submit, and any that won't submit get put to the sword. The Jews (just like pigs and monkeys) don't pay them any mind, so they're on the muslim sh*t-list. It's not hatred - it's just orders from upstairs. No hard feelings. The marketing plan says,"Off with their heads," and that's the end of the discussion.

Dear rational,
Great post!
"They will regard gestures of this kind as acts motivated by fear of Muslim retailation (and in many cases, they would probably be right, which will only encourage more demands for special treatment by our institutions)."
And this one:
"They won't appreciate anything you give them anyway. They will only see it as weakness to be exploited."

The Muslim mind is so different from ours, we really need a translation every time a Muslim speaks! How come we cannot get our institutions of higher education to see this?

It's difficult enough to elucidate a point or argument in print, let alone in an interview where quick responses are demanded.
Like another poster said, the apologists were PWND by this lady...this wonderful warrior of words!
Can we multiple-clone this hero quickly before any death fatwas are carried out on her?
Maybe I shouldn't joke about a very real possibility in the backwards Bizzaro world of Islam, where dissenters are frequently threatened and murdered with religious sanction.
I should pray that her heroic work in the arena of awakening Muslims continues without interruption.
This interview clearly demonstrates that our opinions are decisively shaped by what information we take in.
One side has the ability to consider all things from everywhere, while one side is severely limited.
This coup on Al-Jazeera has them reeling, and another JW post addresses an A-J apology for insulting the audience.
Bwahahahahaha!Truth hurts!
