Indonesian President: "Islam has unjustly been associated with violence"

In non-Muslim circles, that is. He doesn't appear to have made any recognition of the fact that many Muslims have been working energetically to associate Islam with violence by committing terror attacks and justifying them by reference to the Qur'an and Muhammad's example. After beheading Nick Berg a few years ago, to take one of hundreds of examples, Al-Zarqawi justified his action by reminding Muslims that Muhammad ordered his enemies beheaded after the Battle of Badr. But no, for Yudhoyono, as for so many others, it is all a matter of Western "misconception" -- there is no need for Muslims to perform any self-examination or self-criticism.

"Top Muslim president calls for peace jihad at summit," from AFP (thanks to all who sent this in):

DAKAR (AFP) — The leader of the world's most populous Muslim nation called Friday for a jihad of peace to spark an "Islamic Renaissance", at a summit where leaders struggled to agree reforms to the main international Islamic group.

Indonesia's President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono called for greater democracy and efforts to improve the plight of Muslims and spread Islamic values, in a speech to the 57-nation Organisation of the Islamic Conference (OIC) summit.

"The possibility of an Islamic Renaissance lies before us," Yudhoyono told the summit, but first, he added: "We need to get our act together as an organisation of Muslim nations.

"When the Islamic Renaissance comes it will be the natural fruit of a peaceful and constructive 'jihad'."

Yudhoyono said the OIC was "unique" because it covers three continents and "Muslim countries supply 70 percent of the world's energy requirements and 40 percent of its raw material exports."

But he said the Muslim world must improve its image. "Protracted conflicts in Muslim societies bring shame to the Ummah (Muslim community) and tarnish the good name of Islam."

In many non-Muslim circles "Islam has unjustly been associated with violence," Yudhoyono added.

"We must disabuse the world of this terrible misconception," he said, calling for greater efforts against 'Islamaphobia' in the West but also greater democracy in Muslim nations....

If it should come to pass that any substantial number of Muslims do undertake this proposed "jihad of peace," what will be most significant will be the reaction of violence-inclined Muslim groups to the effort. Will they sit passively while the peaceniks undermine their interpretation of Allah's Will, or will they employ the measures they've used against us "infidels" to whip their co-religionists back into line?

I know which way I'm betting.

OK - they have 70% of the world's energy requirements, and 40 percent of its raw material exports ... what claim do they have to true Renaissance-Genius (beyond, say, algebra)?

If this nutter’s sputtering wasn’t so inane, it would be hilarious: one only has to point randomly at a world map and undoubtedly, it will fall upon a hot-spot where Islam is involved in terrorist activity. This inanity is expected from fools such as the Indonesian President, sadly, this mindset is not rare in the West's weak-kneed, political, milieu. Western leaders along with nihilistic leftists are no less airy-fairy than Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono and his warped, airy-fairy, perspective.
These dullards are more than a brick short of a load. Regrettably, as long as this denial and political kowtowing pervades, this moronic and perfidious lot, will continue to lead us down a pathway with a cataclysmic end.

Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono

If that's not the name of a Vehicle Borne Improved Explosive Device driver just waiting to happen, I don't know what is.

Greater democracy in Muslim nations? Would that include non-Muslims in Muslim nations being able to practice and preach their own religion free of intimidation and fear as Muslims can here in the West? How about starting with Saudi Arabia? It could use a few churches and synagogues here and there. What about a Muslim openly converting to another faith? Would that person be safe in a majority-Muslim land? Ain't holding my breath here.

Islam has been INSUFFICIENTLY associated with violence.

Actions speak louder than words.

"When the Islamic Renaissance comes it will be the natural fruit of a peaceful and constructive 'jihad'."

We're still waiting. Isn't jihad the inner struggle? So struggle. Many will cheer you along in your struggle to become civilized and to learn to play nice.

OT: on which train is the Obamameister riding ?

Well, the train he is on, and which he has been riding for twenty years is the Adolph Jeremy Wright train, the supremicist hate train which sounds very koranic: there is but one group of people (all others are bad), support the 'palestinean' people, all the ills of the world are the legacy of the white man or infidel -take your pick.

Like a certain religion, Obama is dissembling and hiding his agenda. But we know what train he is riding and that is the train of his mentor and father figure Jeremiah Wright who is an advisor to his campaign, and the pastor on sabbatical from his Chicago church.

The presence and influence of Jeremiah Wright is not rumor, but fact. B.Hussein Obama has been hiding his true face. Why hasn't he been confronted with these facts, why hasn't he been asked these questions ?

They're all clones of each other.

Whenever I hear "tarnishing the good name of Islam" it makes me run to the loo...

It must be Halal to smoke pot, since anyone who says that Islam is not steeped in violence is either a liar or deluded.

It is time for Islam to end the denial about its vicious propensity towards violence. The Ummah has no clothes!

'Unjustly associated with terrorism?'

Yudhyono Bangbang must be buying his delusions in crackpot alley:

Qur'an:9:5 "Fight and kill the disbelievers wherever you find them, take them captive, harass them, lie in wait and ambush them using every stratagem of war."
Qur'an:9:112 "The Believers fight in Allah's Cause, they slay and are slain, kill and are killed."
Qur'an:9:29 "Fight those who do not believe until they all surrender, paying the protective tax in submission."
Ishaq:325 "Muslims, fight in Allah's Cause. Stand firm and you will prosper. Help the Prophet, obey him, give him your allegiance, and your religion will be victorious."
Qur'an:8:39 "Fight them until all opposition ends and all submit to Allah."
Qur'an:8:39 "So fight them until there is no more Fitnah (disbelief [non-Muslims]) and all submit to the religion of Allah alone (in the whole world)."
Ishaq:324 "He said, 'Fight them so that there is no more rebellion, and religion, all of it, is for Allah only. Allah must have no rivals.'"
Qur'an:9:14 "Fight them and Allah will punish them by your hands, lay them low, and cover them with shame. He will help you over them."

How's that for starters. There's more where that came from....

You guys just have the wrong mindset.

The solution: Whatever one of these Muslim hot-air-blowers says, you need to understand the TRUTH is just the opposite. Think George Orwell: "War is Peace. Freedom is Slavery. Ignorance is Strength." We then continue with "Islam is Peaceful. Islam respects other religions. Islam is under attack from the West. Islam is the Solution of the world's ills." ...and so forth.

Posted by: A_Nonny_Mouse [TypeKey Profile Page] at March 15, 2008 10:05 PM

Yep, if one says "islam is peaceful" enough times, there will be enough guillible people to believe it.

Look at the muslims--quite a few of them seem to believe that islam is peaceful too...as they are killing their sisters and daughters, and as they target schoolchildren in Beslan, and as they riot over cartoons.

They think up is down, left is right, and that violence is peace. They are prohibited from drinking alcohol, they can't date, they can't have any fun and they think the whole world is against them.

It's no wonder they are the most confused, frustrated, and angry people on the face of this earth, and it's also no wonder so many of them are eager to end it all by blowing themselves up.

Posted by: PorkFatRules [TypeKey Profile Page] at March 15, 2008 11:26 PM

In the spirit of Orwell, how about "Islam, the death cult of peace"?

Posted by: Amy Alkon [TypeKey Profile Page] at March 16, 2008 2:18 AM

It's all those danged peaceful verses of the Koran getting misinterpreted again.

Like that modest proposal:

"Chop off their heads!".

Or:

"Terrorize the unbelievers until they submit!".

How do these absurd associations of Islam and violence arise?

It's the Koran, stupid.

I found this article which correctly describes the Western Worlds' predicament:

"For those emotionally invested in averting their eyes from threatening challenges, it is often only painful blows from the aggressors they have been seeking to appease that will oblige them to give up their delusions, and even such blows can fail for a time to force them to confront the reality of their predicament."
