Another D.A.I.F. party: Death to America, It's Friday! (oh, and the Netherlands, too)
All in a day's work. "Afghans chant death to Danish, Dutch in protest," by Ahmad Masood for Reuters:
KABUL (Reuters) - Some 5,000 Afghans chanted "death to Denmark" and "death to the Netherlands" in Kabul on Friday, protesting against the reprinting of a cartoon of the Prophet Mohammad in Danish newspapers and a Dutch film on the Koran.
Sporadic demonstrations have sprung up across the deeply conservative country in recent weeks against the cartoons and the film with protesters demanding Danish and Dutch troops be withdrawn from Afghanistan and their embassies shut down.
Protesters gathered around a mosque in the west of the Afghan capital after Friday prayers chanting "death to Denmark," "death to the Netherlands, "death to America" and "death to Jews."
Demonstrators burned Danish and Dutch flags and also an effigy of Dutch right-wing politician Geert Wilders, who is due to release a film thought to be critical of the Koran later this month. Wilders has given few details of the film, but in the past he has called Islam's holy text a "fascist" book that "incites violence."
One unidentified speaker addressing the angry crowd through a megaphone from the back of a truck said the Afghan government should expel Danish and Dutch troops and close their embassies within two days or "we will take action."
The Netherlands has some 1,650 troops, mainly in southern Afghanistan and 14 Dutch soldiers have been killed fighting Taliban militants. Denmark, meanwhile, has 550 troops in northern and southern Afghanistan and 11 of its soldiers have been killed.
Al Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden this week warned that Europe would be punished for the cartoons, first published by a Danish paper in September 2005. The images ignited violent protests across the world, including in Afghanistan, when newspapers around the world reprinted them the following year.
Last month, some Danish newspapers reprinted one of the cartoons in solidarity with the cartoonist after three men were arrested on suspicion of plans to kill him, sparking more anger.
Many Muslims consider any depiction of the Prophet as offensive.
Resentment is growing against the presence of more than 50,000 foreign troops in Afghanistan.
Many Afghan are frustrated at poor security and the slow pace of development more than six years after U.S.-led and Afghan forces toppled the Taliban after the hardline Islamist movement refused to hand over bin Laden in the wake of the September 11 attacks on the United States.

There's a lot of calls for 'death' from Muslims nowadays.
Never do I hear calls for love, peace, happiness or kindness.
I have one question for these lunatics: if cartoons are reason enough for you to chant madly about death, and even kill people, then what is your response to the Sudanese government who has slaughtered thousands of innocent civilians in Darfur?
As usual, all you will hear are the crickets chirping....

The Netherlands flag is a plain and simple tricolor red, white and blue. So since when did Arabic slogans start appearing in the middle strip the way it does in the flag of Iraq?
Since it's Afghanistan - currently under our occupation, shouldn't we either bomb such demonstrations, or if we don't have the balls to do that, isn't it high time we simply left? If one wants to avoid the pre-9/11 situation of a Taliban regime, simply arm all Afghan ethnic groups to the teeth so that no group can be pre-dominant, and just have an off-shore naval presence in the Arabian sea to bomb Afghanistan or Pakistan on a short notice should a need arise.

islam is trying to become less associated with 'perpetual outrage' and more with 'death', I guess.

I agree with Infidel Pride. I'm fed up with trying to help people who obviously hate us and have a warped sense of reality. We should get out and just bomb them from ships or airplanes, from a distance, when necessary. A containment policy, I guess. Hopeless.

If Islam is a living spiritual being, some sort of retarded or psychotic demonic force, and not just a doctrine, all the more reason to expect that it won´t go, except kicking and screaming. Much in the modern world, with its irresistable openness, is deadly to Islam. So expect a lot of kicking and screaming, and worse. The half-full glass here is that much of this violent noise signifies a kind of death throes. The half-empty glass (or is it mostly empty?) is that such death throes can last a very long time. Much of jihad, from the beginning 1400 years ago, might be a kicking and screaming effort to forestall the ultimate death and failure that has been foreordained from the beginning of this reality-denying belief-system. Unfortunately, although its ultimate failure is guaranteed by its insanity, it may achieve almost any amount of earthly success, by dominating larger and larger parts of the earth, or else by destroying, with increasingly accessible WMD, itself and the rest of human civilization.
Islam is an evil empire on the move, though an empire that for now can only establish itself in the political systems of individual nations.
Muslims of good intentions will more and more have to publicly and clearly reject Islamic supremacism, dhimmitude, Islamic law, and jihad, or else be judged complicit in the advance of a criminal system of politics and culture.

You caught that one very well, Infidel Pride. They also put their perverted "crescent moon" on the center red stripe of our Red Gold and Black German flag of Democracy.. their fascist "Fuehrer of all Turks" [self-proclaimed, noone is making this one up] had giant adverts posted IN GERMANY with their evil crescent moon swallowing the star right in the center of the red stripe of our German Democracy Flag on his recent visit to Cologne, Germany where he held a speech exhorting German Turks to refrain from "assimilating" to the German culture.
I am not asking anyone to embrace "German culture" but if they so choose to live in Germany and embrace all the benefits deriving from that they can certainly act like good guests as mch as they expect us to be good hosts for them.
We did not lose the War against Turkey and I am fed up with them acting like we owe them anything deriving from World War 2 or any other preceding War.
We do have a historic duty and responsibility for the Jewish people and therefore Israel which I wish our elected Government would be more emphatic about defending in an uncompromising and steadfast manner.
We stood with the Jews post-WW2 and solemnly proclaimed "Never Again" but I am dismayed to see that that our actions haven't matched up to our words in a meaningful way.
I for one do not see anything wrong with our tax monies going to help Israel and to help out the remaining victims of the Holocaust. This is one area where it might be called for to err on the side of generosity.. instead of spending funds on supporting the "palestinians" and their stupid jihad.
Should we really squabble with the last remaining Holocaust victims over compensation as they live out their few remaining years?
That to me seems quite cynical and cold. I am one German who disagrees with that policy and I condemn these inhumane delay tactics.
We Germans have the unique opportunity to make clear to the entire world that we regret deeply our sins against the Jewish People and that we shall stand beside them - and if they need us to, behind them - regardless of the prevailing winds of facile political and social trends.
Now is the time for Germany to reflect on our historical guilt and the responsibility deriving from our past, namely the Holocaust.
We not only can but we are CALLED UPON to speak clearly and without equivocation about the ultimate sin which we in particular have every reason to prevent from ever happening again.
Noone can deny us the special role we now and will forever have in safeguarding and protecting the very people whom our forefathers have so gravely sinned against.
If we are ever to reclaim our humanity we must collectively stand aside the Jewish People and their homeland Israel.
We have both the moral imperative and the singular experience to oppose any attempt to threaten the existence of the Jewish State of Israel as well as that of Jewish Communities around the world.
We should have particular care about allocating funds or enabling anyone or any entity which would threaten either the State of Israel or the well-being and safety of Jewish people anywhere else in the world.
We Germans have this moral authority thrust upon our legacy and we should be wise enough to use it whenever we deal with anyone or any entity which would threaten either the State of Israel or Jewish people living in any nation.
We have the unique moral authority of being able to say to any of them: "NEVER AGAIN - and we mean it".
Anyone who understands and respects human rights and respect for solemn responsibility can never ever have an argument with this when it is clearly stated as such and unequivocably so by any German Government Authority.
Anyone who would challenge us on this would find themselves in the moral company of the Nazis and the Anti-Semites who enabled and were responsible for the greatest collective crime in History to date.
Does anyone wish to do worse and surpass these depraved and evil deeds?
We can call those who question our particular support for Israel and the Jewish people to task based on our historic guilt. I understand this guilt as something which is impossible to make up or undo.
But I also see it as a unique responsibility for present-day Germany and her people to reflect upon this particular past and thus stand unfalteringly and with our particular moral understanding against any - even if ever so slight - challenge to the Right of Existence of the Jewish people in their own state.
What about this doesn't make any sense?
I have sated these things to Arab moslems who have railed against Israel to me.
I only wish the German Government would do the same.
Like I said.. we are much harder to attack or move off our stated position than any other people or Nations in the world and this is what I think we should do if we truly mean to atone for the sins of our father.
I am sad to say that we are very very far from being this clear on that issue.

What I am trying to say is that it pains me to see that our German government - actually that would be our society in general - isn't strongly and unequivocably stating the case for both Jews and Israel with the particular moral imperative which [our specific] History has mandated us to.
What have we really learned from all of this?
Is it fine to give money to Jewish organizations and to Israel while we give moral support - and money - to their enemies at the same time?
Should it not be US to say to the French and any others who fancy themselves "friends of the Arabs" that we will NOT participate in this double game?
Should it not be US to stand up and MAKE NOISE when we KNOW something evil and underhanded and insiduous it taking place?
At least in my view that is my lesson from the Holocaust and I want to see my German government - and business leaders as well - to act with some sense of Moral Imperative which we could use to challenge the moslem Nations who keep using us for their purpose of both eradicating the State of Israel and the Jewish people world-wide.
They, who looked up to us - and continue to do so - for "doing such an efficient job" need to be told that we do NOT agree with the sins of our fathers and that indeed we do consider them as grave and unforgivable sins.
We can only forgive ourselves - if noone else will - by positive and unequivocal action. We are called upon to speak out as individuals as much as we are called upon to make our government act in a more moral fashion than it has been doing to date.
I for one am quite ashamed of the moral comportment of Germany since the end of the War.
We can well afford to pass up certain business opportunities if that will serve to clarify our unequivocal stance re. the historic rights of the Jewish people and their Right to exist as the State of Israel.
Noone can tell us that these things are morally wrong. Let them challenge us on these principles and they will display themselves openly for everyone to see.
The Americans cannot do this. Nor can the French of the British.
They can all be dismissed as hypocrites for one reason or the other by the enemies of Israel.
But NOONE can ever deny German moral authority when it is coming from a place of genuine remores and self-reflection.
We are the ones who can tell THEM why they are wrong and that they should stop to try to follow us in our errant path of the past.
Our silence enables them more than money or weapons which is why I am deciding to state very clearly what I think
I am one German Citizen and I demand of my government to be more unequivocal and steadfast from now on when it comes to Israel and her Right to exist in Peace and Prosperity.
I demand that my country truly own up to our past and stop paying lip service and do what is right from now on.
Paying some money means nothing.
Saying something when noone else will - DOES!

Time to pack up and leave and let that hellhole get back to its natural state, and then cordon it off from all civilization. Never again be taken in by their argument that we "abandoned" them after the Soviets pulled out. If they want to get rid of the Taliban, it's up to them. God helps those who help themselves.

Darcy -
Read the Qur'an. Lots of death in it. Don't expect to find anything worthwhile regarding spirtuality in it. Just a lot of "Allah rewards belief and "discourages" disbelief. Some of the discouragement is quite vicious.
Allah vs. man. Man vs. Allah. Man vs. man. Man vs. woman. Believers against unbelievers. Reward vs. punishment. Carrot vs. stick. Allah vs. nature. Allah vs. the Prophet. Allah vs. Allah.
Not a lot of thougtful, deep insight there.

tanstaafl - I've got a paperback Koran to refer to when RS posts his Koran series of each chapter.
Besides ordering Islam's follower's to obey Mohammed (clever, Mo!) as they do Allah, the primary theme is "Kill Infidels in the name of Allah and you'll be a martyr and get the Paradise of wine, women, song, and pearly boys." Amazing how Mohammed told such an obvious whopper that Muslims still believe! Mohammed out-PT-Barnum's PT Barnum! ("There's a sucker born every minute.")
So, I suppose my question was a rhetorical one. Often they don't translate well on the 'net.

Mohammed did a lot of damage between his poisoning and his death. Even at the time he died he was preparing a huge army to extend his earthly empire. For all their internal feuding, his successors carried out his mission and fulfilled his dream of a Muslim-only Arabia.
History might have been totally different if previous assassination attempts, particularly early in his "prophethood", had been successful. C'est la vie.

"Many Afghan are frustrated at poor security and the slow pace of development more than six years after U.S.-led and Afghan forces toppled the Taliban after the hardline Islamist movement refused to hand over bin Laden in the wake of the September 11 attacks on the United States."
And since then they have done what? What exactly have the people of Afghanistan done to improve their own lives? Are they incapable of doing things for themselves?
I'm quite sure that many of them are doing their best to rebuild their nation. Clearly...not enough of them are brave enough or have the inclination to do so.
They live in a world that they have created or allowed to be created...and they whine about it?
If one allows terrorists to rule ones country and then your country gets its ass kicked because of it...who exactly is to blame? The cowards that laid down for the Taliban that's who.
Kinda reminds me of someone building a really crappy house for themselves and then bitchin' about the poor construction.
Poor security?
Get off your ass and secure things for yourself!
I'm fairly certain that rifles are easy to come by there...along with everything else. Get a damn neighborhood watch goin' that covers yer ass. Form militias to secure your immediate area. Cooperate with one another to kill/capture those that want to destabilize rebuilding efforts through terrorism. Defending ones home is the responsibility of any citizen of any country. if you wait for ANY government to save your ass, yer gonna die.
Development? Anyone can stack block, pound nails and pour concrete. They did it before the scummy bastards of the Taliban ruled the land...they can most certainly do it again.
Maybe there's something fundamental about this that I'm missing. Corruption? Misuse of funds? These problems seem to be the norm everywhere. However...it's up to the people of any nation to control their own destinies.
If I'm missing something... please enlighten me.

What do we (U.S.) owe the Afghans? Al qaeda operated out of there and we went in and destroyed their bases.
We ousted the Taliban government that apparently many Afghans preferred to what was put in its place.
As Bingo and others suggested above, and as we should do whenever an Islamic entity endangers us, we should destroy the threat and leave--not ever try to "be nice" to the Islamic population in the hope that it will be grateful (as in Iraq).
Moslems consider themselves superior and expect non-Moslems to cater to them.
Whenever a Moslem threat appears--destroy it unmercifully and let the survivors crawl about the rubble and try and rebuild infrastructure themselves, not waste our manpower and resources patrolling these countries, acting as police and rebuilders.
