Abu Bakar Bashir, the notorious Indonesian imam whose inflammatory statements and coddling by the Indonesian government we have featured here many times, is once again happily stirring up strife -- and doing so, nota bene, in the context of fidelity to the purity of Allah's law.

ISLAMIC cleric Abu Bakar Bashir has returned to his hardline rhetoric with a call for followers to "beat up" Western tourists and for young Muslims to die as martyrs.In the sermon, organised by an Islamic youth organisation and delivered a few kilometres from the home village of convicted Bali bombers Amrozi and Mukhlas, Bashir likened tourists in Bali to "worms, snakes, maggots", and specifically referred to the immorality of Australian infidels.
The address was caught on video by an Australian university student.
"The youth movement here must aspire to a martyrdom death," said the cleric, who was convicted of conspiracy over the 2002 Bali bombings that killed 202 people, including 88 Australians, but was later cleared and released from prison.
"The young must be first at the front line - don't hide at the back. You must be at the front, die as martyrs and all your sins will be forgiven. This is how to achieve forgiveness." [...]
The sermon was organised by the youth group Persatuan Pemuda Islam Pantura (Java North Coast Islamic Youth Group) and delivered on October 22 last year. [...]
During the sermon, Bashir talked of a previous visit to Australia, claiming that he had wanted to see the "beauty of the ocean" but was told by a friend there was "one condition" of a visit to the beach.
"He said if you enter that area you must be completely naked," Bashir told the crowd of about 300 hearing his sermon.
Bashir likened non-Muslims to crawling animals. "Worms, snakes, maggots - those are animals that crawl. Take a look at Bali ... those infidel tourists. They are naked."
He called for signs to be erected across Indonesia warning tourists they were entering a Muslim area, and directing they cover up appropriately. But in east Java, he urged the Islamist youth to "beat up" foreigners.
"God willing, there are none here," Bashir said. "If there were infidels here, just beat them up. Do not tolerate them." [...]
Bashir's address contained many direct challenges to Indonesian secularism. The cleric urged his supporters to reject the laws of the nation's parliament and said following state laws that contradicted Islamic Shariah law was an act of "blasphemy".
"Don't be scared if you are called a hardliner Muslim," Bashir said. "It must be like that. We can't follow human law that is in conflict with Allah's law."

So, here we have yet another Imam calling for violence towards non-believers and saying the only way for forgiveness is through martyrdom.
Two points:
1. How come he isn't first in the line to receive this forgiveness?
2. This is a highly offensive remark. But where are the moderate muslims with their demonstrations? Where are the muslim spokesmen who are normally queing up to slate cartoonists, Wilders, the Pope, the jews, the US, the west etc. condemning this man as someone who is an Islmophobe or someone who insults the paedophile prophet (Puss be eternally showered upon him)
Moderate muslims = moderate nazis = no such thing.

In the other story of the day Christian Allam talks of the "physiologically violent" nature of Islam as the reason for his wanting to leave this non-religion. There could not be a better example than the verbal diarrhea of this cleric:
"beat up" non-muslims "aspire to martyrdom death", likened non-Muslims to crawling animals. "Worms, snakes, maggots - those are animals that crawl etc
The question I have is what is the Indonesia government going to do about this criminal giving heat speeches? If the answer continues to be nothing, as I expect, then Indonesian people as a whole stand guilty of condoning such actions of the cleric in the name of Islam.
Now from what I know about Indonesians, they are not the most caring and compassionate people (Balinese excepted) - remember East Timor or West Papua? So there real question is what are you doing going to Indonesia for holidays or flying Garuda.

I always wonder when I read or hear Muslim Imams make statements like this, how many children and Grand children they have in their families?
I've read that the screwball President of Iran has about eleven children, but have seen nothing on how many have Martyred themselves in the cause of Islam. It's my bet they've all been encouraged to pursue a University education and lucrative careers as professionals.
It's interesting how free and easy they are with the lives of other people's children, but their own never seem to be called to Martyrdom by Allah. But then, why send your own loved ones out to kill themselves when other parents are dense enough to use their own children as fodder for Allah.
The truth is that these Imams don't want to endure the pain of sending their own out to commit suicide, so they leave that great honor to others.

Gee, Abu, my parish pastor urges us to line up for forgiveness too but it's called "GOING TO CONFESSION". Lots of soul searching but no one blows up, not the penitent, not the priest, not the confessional (we have a traditional ROMAN CATHOLIC parish so we use our confessionals for confession NOT as storage closets as many post Vat II "faith communities" do, teehee).
Anyway, Abu this method of seeking forgiveness from the true God leaves living young Catholics forgiven of their sins and allowed to return to their spouses and procreate little Catholics.
I am just a dirty kufir, but I think your way may end up putting a damper on your team having little Muslims. Too much detonation spoils the chance for procreation.

Sure they can beat up tourists. Those tourists can then vote with their feet,with their dollars,euros,yen,and then have a nice haughty laugh when some tourism industry from some nation where the primary attraction is likely to be the ruins of a more prosperous civilization anyhow,equates the decline in revenues with a resurgence in "bigotry."

Yeah, I doubt it. Firstly, the idea that Bashir was unable to find a non-nude beach in all of Australia, so that he could "see the beauty of the ocean" is pretty absurd. Secondly, I've never heard of any nude beach, in any country, that *mandates* nudity. Sure, you might feel a bit self-consious in your speedo--or robes, or burqa--if most of the people around you are nude, but you are not compelled to go without clothing.
I think he said this, most of all, to "inflame" his audience. Also, though, the idea of tolerance is so alien to someone like Bashir, that I imagine he has a difficult time envisioning something that may be permitted, but is in no way mandated. In other words, he has no understanding of freedom.

It is interesting to note that Bashir himself is Indonesian by birth only--he is is of Yemeni Arab descent (wow, what a thrill--Yemeni!).
I had also been wondering what had happened to this walking mushroom cloud of a person (the Indonesian government had reccently been doing a pretty good job of muzzling Bashir's ultra-vile mouth).
ps--In 1965, several million Indonesians were massacred in waves of violence that swept across Sumatra, Java, and Bali (which were never satisfactorily explained either).
I have begun to seriously suspect that Mr. Bashir himself was and is directly responsible for starting the 1965 Indonesian holocause (he was old enough and connected enough to pull it off, too). Does anyone out there want to investigate this? Bashir may very well prove to be a war criminal of Nuremberg quality--now, If only there was a way to find out for sure.
