Man accused in Bhutto's book of attack on her homecoming parade freed for lack of evidence

Well, we already knew it was a shoddy book.

"Suspect in Bhutto parade attack freed on bail," from Agence France Presse (AFP) (thanks to DFS):

KARACHI: An alleged Al-Qaeda militant detained over the bombing of Benazir Bhutto's homecoming parade which killed 139 people has been freed on bail, police in Pakistan said on Wednesday. A court freed Qari Saifullah Akhtar, accused by the former premier of plotting against her in a book published after her assassination in December, was released "after the police failed to produce evidence against him," police investigator Nawaz Ranjha said. The court ordered police to produce evidence as soon as possible, he added....

Incidentally, I wrote to Bhutto's ghostwriter, Mark Siegel, informing him that in the book he had attributed words to me that I did not say and positions that I do not hold. I got no answer. What a surprise.

And, what a coward. Cannot own up to the fact he misquoted RS.

Mr Spencer,

This may come as a surprise to you, but the main thrust of this book actually *isn't* these random technical errors you keep reporting on. This book was rushed to print after Bhutto's death, so these regrettable errors are unsurprising. I would be interested to hear your thoughts on the book as a whole, and on the messages contained within it.

I also ask that you be frank with your criticism of Benazir Bhutto, who you did not regard highly during her lifetime, instead of beating around the bush as you currently are. Thanks.

"Shlomo Michael":

Please quote me where I said these errors were the main thrust of the book.

I would be interested to hear your thoughts on the book as a whole, and on the messages contained within it.

It's a farrago of soothing half-truths and untruths, as one might have expected.

I also ask that you be frank with your criticism of Benazir Bhutto, who you did not regard highly during her lifetime, instead of beating around the bush as you currently are. Thanks.

Please provide a specific example of this "beating around the bush."

I have had it up to here with unsubstantiated accusations. Quote me, or shut up.

Cordially
