Death threats for saying Islam isn't a Religion of Peace
An update on this story. "Indonesia blocks access to YouTube over anti-Koran film," from Reuters:
JAKARTA (Reuters) - At least four Indonesian firms providing Internet services have blocked access to the YouTube Web site for carrying a Dutch lawmaker's film that accuses the Koran of inciting violence, an information ministry official said on Tuesday.
The move follows a government ban on broadcasts of the film by Geert Wilders, leader of the Dutch anti-immigration Freedom Party, which alternates images of the September 11, 2001 attacks and other Islamist bombings with quotations from the Koran.
Titled "Fitna," a Koranic term sometimes translated as "strife," it also shows an image of the Prophet Mohammad primed to explode and says the rising number of Muslims in Europe threatens democratic values.
Sukemi, the information ministry spokesman, said telecommunication firms PT Telekomunikasi Indonesia (Telkom), PT Telekomunikasi Selular (Telkomsel) and PT Exelcomindo Pratama Tbk, and Internet provider Indonet had blocked access to YouTube.
Telekom had also blocked social networking site MySpace and is still looking for other sites and blogs that have posted the film to block them, Eddy Kurnia, vice-president for public and marketing communication, said in a statement.

What is present-day Indonesia -- the East Indies -- was once entirely Hindu and Buddhist. Yet without direct military conquest by large armies, most of Indonesia became Muslim. How did it happen? Muslim traders from the Hadramaut (now part of Yemen) established posts in Java and Sumatra. These trading posts enlarged, and more Muslims came, and came to stay. They were busy in their conversion efforts, and some of those posts took on military aspects. Eventually, the rulers of both Java and Sumatra accepted Islam themselves, and as was customary in those days (14th-15th century) their people adopted the religion of their rulers. And steadily, by degrees, the forces of Islam began to spread to other islands, and while there are still parts of Indonesia where Hindus may yet be in the majority (e.g. Bali) and Buddhists, too, are not unknown, nor Christians, Indonesia was won for Islam the way, if there is not a halt to Muslim immigration, and a determined resistance to all further Muslim efforts to conduct Jihad by means other than the obvious -- combat or qitaal -- the same outcome, speeded up, could come to the former colonial master of Indonesia, the Netherlands, and to other countries in Western Europe.
The most important single bit of information in "Fitna" was not any of the passages from the Qur'an. It was a bit of demographic information: that in 1960 there were about 1,500 Muslims in the Netherlands, and forty-four years later there were close to a million.
Demography is destiny. Look closely at the picture above of the maddened Muslim protesters in Indonesia, threatening death to a Dutch member of Parliament who dared to quote the Qur'an -- entirely accurately -- in a fifteen-minute film. There are already such scenes, intermittently, on the streets of London and Paris. Would you like those countries of Western Europe to routinely have such scenes, and become, as Indonesia did over centuries, or as Kafiristan and Waziristan did over little more than the last 100 years, or as Malaysia has been doing during the last few decades, steadiy islamizing, steadily raising the percentage of the population that willingly submits to the Total Belief-System of Islam, with all that that would mean for art, science, human freedom?
Or do you think all possible measures should be taken to prevent that from happening? What do you think the inheritors, often unworthy, of the legacy of Western civilization owe the creators of that legacy, and what do they owe posterity?

It works both ways, Indonesians now cannot post their lying videos. I think all Mohammedan countries should block all internet access.
Now that'a a damn good idea.

One of the small ironies of all of this is that up until their independence in 1949 Indonesia was known as the Dutch East Indies.

I guess it's fairly obvious from the context, but please allow me to translate the placards from Bahasa Indonesia anyway.
"Hukuman Mati" = Death Sentence.
"Untuk penghina Nabi" = For the insulter of The Prophet".
So, quoting the Quran and showing footage of what people actually said constitutes insulting the prophet.
It's a pity these ignorant and disturbed women are not calling for the death sentence of those responsible for the murder of hundreds of innocent people in the Bali bombings.

A recent article talked about the Taliban shutting down cell towers and then finding out they could not carry out or coordinate terrorist activities.
Indonesia is only blocking a tool used by terrorist. Indonesia condemns Fitna, but has silence and cooperation with islamic terrorist postings/videos of carried out killings.
I honestly do not believe there is such a thing as a muslim moderate. A moderate is only a radical that has run out of ammunition.

No arguments here, savsiv, but I think you're being a bit premature by assuming that "he" physically existed. Nothing like a little-of-this, and a little-of-that, mix it together with some water and bingo, you've got a new toy to compete with your neighbors that already have successful monotheistic societies. Oh, lets also make "him" really mean to everyone who doesn't completely buy "the fantasy"; now "his" followers can distance themselves from any of those pesky moral obstacles that can get in the way of violent expansionism.

Mosque calls infidels “dogs” during school trip
What should have been an educational school trip to a mosque for ten year olds from the public primary school “The Horizon” in Amsterdam turned out to be a tirade about unbelievers.
The stupefied children from group 7b and their senior companions got a lecture by the chairman of the mosque “El Mouchidine” who stated that unbelievers are dogs. The multicultural school regularly organizes trips to various religious institutions […] because the board thinks it important that their pupils become acquainted with all kinds of religious backgrounds.
- - - - - - - - -
In a letter to the parents the school authorities say they regret the incident: “We are shocked that the chairman of the mosque during the tour said to the children accompanied by their parents that unbelievers are dogs. This statement is unacceptable to us, because we involve our children is this project in order to develop respect for a free choice of religion.”
The board meanwhile has stated to the mosque that the behaviour of the chairman is unacceptable. Both parties don’t wish to give any further comments. “We will sort it out together and I’m not at all in the mood to talk to the Telegraaf”, says Mariët ten Berge from the school board. “We went to the mosque before and it always went well.”

Oregonjack,
It does not matter if “He” physically existed or not.
All that matters is that:
1.“They” believe he did and that “He” is al insan al kamil (The Perfect Man)
AND
2.“They” believe “He” is uswa hasana (The Model of Conduct) as described in
The Qur’an, Sirat and Hadith.

I use a P2P share program called Shareaza. I have a copy of "Fitna" and "Submission" in my share folder so that others may download them. When someone uploads from your share folder, the Shareaza program shows you what country they are in. In the last couple of days, there has been a major increase in people uploading "Fitna" from Indonesia, Malaysia, India, and Pakistan.
This is great, since because it doesn't have a central hub, these countries can't block a P2P like Shareaza.

This is a bit off the thread topic but I have a question and know that in Robert's absence Hugh, Provoslavni, Sheikyermami or someone can answer this. Speaking of You Tube celebs, I linked inadvertently to a rather vicious Marxist Muslim blog (?) out of Jamaica. This guy besides lobbing the usual "tool of the Jews" slurs at Wilders, Hirsi and Wafa Sultan, said the latter could not be trusted because Dr. Sultan was raised an Alawite and therefore not a true Muslim. I cannot find this term "Alawite" in the glossary of Islam 101. Can someone explain it? Are they a sect especially close to the Jews? [I doubt it since Dr. Sultan in one of her speeches said that she experienced severe cognitive dissonance when coming to America and meeting American Jewish neighbors and medical colleagues. She had been taught the Jews were horned demons.]
I would greatly appreciate being enlightened.

Hugh
What is present-day Indonesia -- the East Indies -- was once entirely Hindu and Buddhist. Yet without direct military conquest by large armies, most of Indonesia became Muslim.
How did it happen
This is how it happened
And Hugh, why dont you go on and explain that Jakarta, with a lot of help from Amerika made the biggest land grab in modern history, and in Idonesians short history a lot of blood has been drawn. 1946-1965 Indonesia was the third biggest communist nation until Oct 1965.
By 1965, the PKI had three million members and was said to be the largest Communist party in the world outside of the Soviet Union and China. In addition to its large membership, about 15 million people had indirect connections to the party through their membership of peasant associations, labour unions and other social movement organisations led by PKI members. It was, according to a September 1, 1965, US National Intelligence Estimate, “by far the best organized and most dynamic entity in Indonesia”.
Within a few months of the October 1, 1965, Suharto/amerikan-organised military coup, however, the PKI would be destroyed in a cataclysmic campaign of political terror and mass murder carried out by the Indonesian armed forces (ABRI)and right-wing Islamic organisations with the CIA supplying hit lists
In terms of the numbers killed the anti-PKI massacres in Indonesia rank as one of the worst mass murders of the 20th century, along with the Soviet purges of the 1930s, the Nazi mass murders during the Second World War, and the Maoist bloodbath of the early 1950s”. At least one million Indonesians were slaughtered in the anti-PKI massacres.
Once the killings were underway, Western policy-makers and diplomats were keen to support the ABRI. The problem they faced was that President Sukarno's previous anti-imperialist rhetoric had resonated strongly with the Indonesian public. Any overt support would therefore serve only to expose the Indonesian army as a tool of the West.
Sukarno's towering reputation presented a significant obstacle. A deft touch was required. US ambassador Marshall Green understood that economic aid should not be offered because economic difficulties hurt the reputation of the civilian administration, not the army. His military contacts told him that there was an urgent need for food and clothing in Indonesia but it was more important to let Sukarno and his foreign minister, Subandrio, “stew in their own juice”.
The information campaign in support of the killings was created along similar principles. The ABRI secretly urged that foreign news broadcasters not give the army “too much credit” or criticise Sukarno. Instead, they should emphasise PKI “atrocities” and the party's role in the mutiny by left-wing ABRI officers that preceded the Suharto-led coup. While Sukarno could not be directly attacked, an Indonesian general offered to provide Western agencies background information on foreign minister Subandrio, who was regarded as more vulnerable.
The US,co-operated closely in the propaganda effort. Marshall Green urged Washington to “spread the story of PKI's guilt, treachery and brutality”, adding that this was “perhaps the most needed immediate assistance we can give army if we can find a way to do it without identifying it as a sole or largely US effort”.
Throughout this period, Western radio stations continued to recycle stories from Radio Jakarta or the army newspapers and broadcast them back to Indonesia. US embassy officials established a back-channel link through the US army attache in Jakarta, who regularly met with an aide to Suharto ally General Haris Nasution.
The US embassy also compiled lists of PKI leaders and thousands of senior members and handed them over to the Indonesian military. While these kinds of lists were based entirely on previous reporting by the PKI's press, they proved invaluable to the military which seemed “to lack even the simplest overt information on PKI leadership at the time”, according to a report Green sent to Washington in August 1966.
General Sukendro, a senior army intelligence officer, secretly approached the US embassy in early October 1965, asking for assistance in the army's operations against the PKI. This included supplying “small arms to arm Muslim and nationalist youths in Central Java for use against the PKI”.
Green authorised the provision of 50 million rupiahs to the Kap-Gestapu movement, which was leading the anti-PKI terror campaign. He advised the State Department that there was “no doubt whatsoever that Kap-Gestapu's activity is fully consonant with and coordinated by the army. We have had substantial intelligence reporting to support this.” Overall, the US provided the ABRI with money, medicines, communications equipment, weapons and intelligence. It was satisfied with the return it received on this investment.
And steadily, by degrees, the forces of Islam began to spread to other islands,
The spread of Islam to the other Islands began when Soharto began send Moslems from Java Madura Lombok and Bali to the outer islands that Jakarta had grabbed.
And lets not forget East Timor, which Indonesia backed by Amerika invaded, using Amerikan and British weapons.
That is how Indonesia become the biggest moslem nation, Akbar Amerika
at April 9, 2008 5:00 PM
InfidelK9,
While Islam originally reached the medieval Hindu/Buddhist Malay kingdoms such as Majapahit and Srivijaya through traders and missionaries, it did not take root as peacefully as claimed. In places like Java, Acheh, Malacca, and Sulu, certain princes converted to Islam and, with the help of Muslim mercenaries, seized the throne. They then went about imposing Sharia and forcibly converting their subjects.
The events you very accurately chronicle above, were only the latest rounds in this forced Islamic conquest. In other words, Islam almost never comes to dominate a nation except by force!

Hi all
PKI massacre may become the greatest horror in Indonesian history. Actually we're not even sure whether PKI was behind the mutiny of several army general in G30SPKI. But the worst to me is the anti Chinese movement in May 1998 during the take down of Suharto. I've been living in Indonesia (Jakarta) my entire life but it just this recent 10 years during what so called reformation era that muslim extremist and group working their agenda to take Indonesia into an Islamic country.
It seems that many of you hate moslem (cmiiw?). But i tell you that the root of Indonesian culture especially Javanese is truly kind. On the other hand many Indonesian native tribe known for their hardness is Christian or else :p (that's why because of their stubborness, they never took Islam). Though Islam teaches their doctrine but they will never replace the essence or root of Indonesian character. Many of Indonesian moslem do not approve violance, they are bigger in number than those extremist(the one in the figure above). When the first time Islam came to Indonesia (Java & Sumatra), they spread it with kindness (not with power as you said --) but when the dutch came in, they bring gospel through the missionaries but they also bring gun through the soldiers. That's the reason why Christian never fully accepted in Indonesia especially Java. And now we Indonesian Christian believe that though the situation is similar with 300-400 years ago during dutch colonial but opposite to that, Islam bring dakwah but also bring gun and violanace while we only teaches love of Christ and with this and the help of God we can win them. So i just want to tell you that hate the violance teaching of Islam but pls don't hate the men, there's still kindness in every people heart and pary to us that many Indonesian Moslem can be converted.

Don
I agree with you that the root of Indonesian culture especially Javanese is truly kind, and neither Christian or Islam (especialy Islam) have any any place in Indonesia. Indonesians should reject both of these imported indoctrines, such as the Javanese should strive to be Javanese, and not try and be Arabs by adopting moslem names and follow the moslem dress codes.
You go on to say that actually we're not even sure whether PKI was behind the mutiny of several army general in G30SPKI.
Well if you have been living in Indonesian all your life, then your have been bombarded all your life with anti communist propaganda, much like the film the Indonesian TV channels played every 31st of sept every year during the Suharto rule.
What I have witnessed here is the in the last ten years, is that the islamization has gone from the slow Jihad to the fast Jihad. The Jihad started with real earnest with G30SPKI
Here is a quick break down of what happened
http://illustratedpig.blogspot.com/2006/03/where-i-live-pt9.html
You say that 1998 was worst for you where the Chinese where raped and slaughtered, I would like to point out that the Chinese where either Christian or Buddha.
First they for the commies, and when no commies where left they came for the Christians
Finally Don, there is a lot of truth in what you say, that Indonesian moslems can be converted. There are suppressed reports coming ou that many are converting to Hindu, and this is one of the main reasons Fitna is blocked in Indo.

Many times I have disagreed with you, but on this occassion I must agree with you fully
The Islamization of Indonesian has never been peaceful
The above version that Hugh tries to put over is only a smoke screen to cover the fact that it was Amerika that gave Indonesia to the islamists on a silver plate in return for a pot of gold (see Kissenger)
The real Islamization of Indonesia has run parallel to Amerikan involvement, starting in 1958, when the CIA began to secretly finance, as well as create, political factions aligned against Sukarno. The agency also funneled money to a handful of corrupt, ambitious generals. Thus "fed," these generals quickly began to grow in power and influence, both in the government and in business wheeling and dealing.
Meanwhile, Sukarno was in the midst of his "Guided Democracy Movement." Although he himself identified most closely with the communist group called the PKI, there were at that time three important political parties in Indonesia -the PKI, the nationalistic PNI and the conservative Muslims. This represented a greater democratic diversity than could be found in America at that time.
By 1964, Sukarno had grown completely disgusted by American efforts to buy influence in Indonesia and announced that he would no longer accept any aid from the US. That was when the CIA, now operating chiefly through the ambitious, greedy general Suharto, began to push forward with a relentless, carefully orchestrated plan to topple Sukarno.
Through this spider's web of connections, Kissinger was privy to a bonanza of inside international information, both political and corporate and was fast becoming especially well groomed in those pertaining to Southeast Asia. By 1965, it is obvious Kissinger was using this information to speculate for personal gain in Indonesia. It is also obvious that by 1965 many top corporate execs in the US mining, logging, oil, and gas industries who had staked out potential claims in Indonesia, somehow knew that Sukarno was going to be muscled out and were circling like sharks.
In 1965, Freeport Sulfur, a company based in New Orleans, cut a private deal with the Indonesian government, through Suharto (who by now had immense power in the government) to create a copper-gold mine in West Papua. Who was the deal broker, making sure Freeport got in on the "ground floor"? There is little doubt this middle man was Henry Kissinger. At the same time, Mobile Oil Indonesia was also entering into contracts with Pertamina. It has been alleged that Kissinger also served as a deal broker in this alliance. Over a dozen other oil companies were waiting for their chance to pounce.
All that was needed to complete the scheme was to get rid of Sukarno. To engineer a coup, the CIA took a page from Hitler and the 1950s GOP and turned the PKI into the "monster under the bed." The agency composed and printed lurid, and largely false propaganda about the communist "menace" and disseminated it throughout Indonesia. Some of the literature called for all Muslims to declare a religious Jihad against the PKI -even asserting that it was "God's will" that all communists be killed. The coup engineers targeted young Muslim men 19-20 years of age, whom they whipped into a fear-filled, religious frenzy, then armed with weapons supplied by the US
What was most despicable about this plot was that until the party began to be persecuted in 1965, the PKI had maintained a strict policy of remaining within the law, conducting only legal protests and remaining unarmed, so as not to provoke the Indonesian military. The "crime" the PKI had committed in the eyes of corrupt generals and their western landowning allies was to urge poor peasants to demand more rights and just compensation from wealthy landowners. The PKI also demanded that the big landowners cease violating the ancient Indonesian rules of crop sharing. The peasants' land was being used to grow sugar and rubber -not the rice that was vital to the survival of the poor. In some areas, the PKI created "armies" of farmers, who took over tracts of land and planted rice. Many of these farmers had been left without any access to land at all due to the eruption of the Ganungagung volcano.
In 1966, having set the stage by spreading suspicion, anger and fear against the communists, the CIA and Suharto went into the next act of what was to become known as the Untung Coup. Six generals still considered loyal to Sukarno were brutally murdered by Suharto and his cohorts. The communists were then framed for the crime, thereby providing Suharto with the excuse he needed to unleash a wholesale "purge" of the PKI. Hitler did much the same thing in Germany in the 1930s -he framed a young Dutch man who belonged to the communist party for blowing up the Reichstag, and thus was able to declare outright war on all communists, which constituted the only faction in Germany that had posed a serious roadblock to his complete domination.
The largely unarmed PKI members were hunted down and slaughtered in one of the most appalling bloodbaths of the 20th century. The poor farmers who had taken a few acres of land were shot down by landowners like turkeys in a shoot. Entire families in which a single member was suspected of being a communist were murdered, including children, some while they slept. Between 1965-1966 an estimated 500,000 to one million men, women, and children were massacred -most with weapons supplied by the US. "Time" magazine reported during this period that "travelers from [some] areas tell of small rivers and streams that have been literally clogged with bodies." However, "Time," like all media in the US in that pre-Vietnam War era (the US presence in Vietnam was still a "police action" then) was still well-indoctrinated by the anti-communist, pro-corporate dogma created by the GOP in the 1950s and sustained by the CIA and a cluster of powerful insiders through the decades ever since. In the July 15, 1966 issue of "Time," the bloody Untung Coup was hailed as "the West's best news in years."
In the final step of the coup, Suharto deposed Sukarno. What followed was a feeding frenzy by Suharto, his henchmen and US corporations. Like a warlord, Suharto appropriated the best of everything he could for himself and his family -oil wells, timberlands, and sugar plantations. Thousands of acres of land were seized by companies with the blessings of Suharto. Tens of thousands of native people were killed, displaced, or "disappeared" to make way for mining, logging, and drilling operations. Suharto and the other corrupt officers of the Indonesian military were involved in every imaginable money-generating scheme, including smuggling -"a range of activities limited only by the imaginations of the military commanders." In 1966, Suharto declared himself committed to aiding the West in its exploitation of Indonesia. In 1967, the "Foreign Investment Law" was passed, which officially threw Indonesia's doors wide open to foreign exploitation. In 1967, guess what western company was the first to be licensed under this new, corrupt and bloodstained regime: The Freeport (FCX) gold operation.
Under Suharto's odious Contract of Work, slapped together in 1967, Suharto handed 100,000 hectares of land in the southern area of West Papua, also called Irian Jaya, to FCX for its gold mine. Neither FCX nor Suharto cared that this was not their land to carve up, but belonged to the Amaungme and Komoro people, whose lineages go back as much as one million years, according to some anthropologists. The corporation simply seized the land and booted off the natives. An estimated 2,000 people were shoved into concentration camp-like "settlements" over the next few years so their land could be turned into a giant gold mine, waste pits, processing buildings, airfields, roads, etc. (In FCX's website, they claim no more than 1,000 people lived in the mine region at the start, but the statistics indicate this is a minimizing lie).
As the years went by, FCX gobbled up more and more forestland. Today, the operation consumes a monstrous 5.75 million acres. Instead of a few thousand natives scattered throughout the forest, able to sustain themselves off their land, FCX actually boasts in its website that Irian Jaya is now "home" to 100,000 people from all over the Indonesian region. It doesn't add that most of them were displaced by other corporate or military operations or that they now live in congested, filthy shantytowns on the edge of the mining operation. The website says these people were drawn by the economic opportunity offered by the mine. What economic opportunity? There are only 7,000 or so jobs associated with the mining operation; most of which are filled by imported workers. The few jobs held by natives are unskilled.
But any protests by native peoples against the FCX "improvements" to Irian Jaya have been handled brutally. Thanks to Suharto and the steady supply of US weapons, FCX has been well-protected from uprisings. In fact, Irian Jaya is the most militarized zone in all of Indonesia, with a greater, more heavily armed military presence than even East Timor. There have been numerous human rights reports of atrocities by FCX's "security forces." Natives have been shot along the road as if they were objects for target practice, pulled off buses and murdered, others have been tortured, some have had their villages torched, yet others report being held kidnapped and held prisoner in FCX packing crates. In one particularly horrendous instance, when natives blew up a slurry pipe carrying contaminated mine wastes, the military retaliated and slaughtered an estimated 900 people.
The Freeport-McMoran operation has now thoroughly contaminated the region's watershed, an area that is home to the Lorentz Reserve, a region rich in wetlands that contains one of just three equatorial glacier zones left on Earth. As far as 80 miles downstream from the mine, villagers have had to be relocated because of the danger that the dam holding back the huge, noxious lake of tailings might break. Some people have refused to leave. Said one elderly native: "God gave this land. I will not be moved from it. If I go, what is there for my children?"
The water in the Ajkwa river, which is the lifeblood of Irian Jaya, is now unfit to drink along much of its length. Native people, especially the elderly, who do not understand why they can no longer drink the water or eat the fish from their father's and father's father's river, stubbornly persist. As a result, many have been poisoned and many have died from what the Indonesian medical personnel now call "mystery diseases." Much like Gulf War Syndrome (which is believed to be caused by a mix of toxic chemicals), natives with "mystery diseases" develop strange skin lesions and rashes, chronic nausea, and may cough up blood. The natives have said that the sweet potatoes and taro they traditionally eat now have ominous discolorations, while the skin of the wild pigs that serve as meat appears diseased. To avoid being poisoned, natives must travel sometimes many miles to commercial markets and purchase food they once hunted and gathered for free, thus fueling their poverty even more.
Perhaps the harshest plight of all is that of the "relocated." These once free, proud people of the forest are forced to live in squalid, crowded shantytown settlements, little better than concentration camps. There, they are plagued by high rates of malaria, cholera, tetanus, sexually-transmitted diseases, and malnutrition. Infant mortality is high -twenty percent of infants do not survive- while the average life expectancy of adults is about 50 years (FCX's "brochure" touts an increase in life expectancy in recent years, but, tellingly, fails to mention just what it is). Yet, West Papua's central highlands have just ONE 70-bed hospital to serve 400,000 people. Despite the health risks posed by poverty coupled with a toxic environment, the Amaungme and Komaro people who chose to remain in their forest land near the mine have no access to any government medical care.
So Islam and Amerika hand in hand are raping Indonesia behind a smokescreen of patriotism, national security and ideology, they are both driven by just one motive: greed.
