Students' Islamic Movement of India: Thinking jihad globally, waging jihad locally

It's not about Islam, we hear over and over. It's about politics, poverty -- something, anything, but Islam. But that's not the case when the jihadists themselves explain their goals. That fact should lead both counter-terrorism officials and regular citizens alike to examine Islamic texts and teachings for themselves -- the works themselves, not pre-digested summaries by apologists -- and discover what resonance they have with the jihadists' own stated goals. But we're not supposed to talk about that, either.

"Islamic India, Taliban reign in SIMI sight," from the Hindustan Times:

THE STUDENTS' Islamic Movement of India (SIMI) might be an indigenous banned terror outfit but the roadmap to its ideological/political objectives seems global. It draws inspiration from Mullah Mohammed Omar, the reclusive head of the Taliban and one of the world's most wanted jihadi terrorists, and his ally and Al Qaeda chief Osama bin Laden.
The SIMI also dreams of converting India to Islam through jihad and making it part of the Muslim Ummah, a boundaryless global religion-based community, and anoint Omar its caliph (political/religious head). As part of this caliphate, India would be a "pure" Islamic, Shariat-based nation state.
This is what Safdar Nagori, SIMI's national secretary general and terror mastermind, revealed to the Indore police during interrogation recently, Inspector General (Indore Range) Anil Kumar told the Hindustan Times. The police, led by Kumar, arrested Nagori and 12 of his top aides from various states during a pre-dawn swoop on March 26.
Since then, several other members of the banned group have been detained. "Nagori told us he looks upon Mullah Omar as his role model, not Osama.
Like Omar, Nagori said, SIMI wants to establish a Shariat-based true Islamic state in India," Kumar said. Sources close to the interrogators said that Nagori had articulated a clear aim of striving to convert India to Islam through jihad.
However, when asked to elaborate on how non-Muslims would be treated if such a "Talibanised Islamic state" were to come into existence, a source revealed that Nagori was evasive. "He said setting up of an Islamic state does not mean we will eliminate the non-Muslims here.
"Nagori reportedly spoke about the extent of his and the group's admiration for Omar and the way they wanted to replicate his jihad-based political ideology in India. Audio and video content related to the Taliban was found in a hard disk recovered from Nagori's hideout in Indore's Shyam Nagar area.
The SIMI, Nagori is said to have told his interrogators, looks upon Osama as a true "mujahid" (warrior for a just cause) who has waged jihad for the cause of Islam. Meanwhile, the Indore Bar Association has officially decided not to represent Nagori and his arrested aides.

Of course Nagori doesn't want to eliminate ALL the non-Muslims (the Jains, Buddhists, Sikhs, Hindus, Parsees, Christians and animists) - for if they did, where would they get dhimmis and slaves to do all the work and to staff the hareems?

But given what happened at Partition, and how Pakistan behaved in their war with Bangladesh, doubtless Nagori has fevered dreams of the 'great slaughter in the land' that must be made before any captives are taken, the vast sacrifice of hundreds of thousands of humans to the Arab war-god allah, drinker of human blood, which will have to be performed BEFORE the terrified and traumatised survivors can be placed under the boot of the triumphant jihadis.

In the first paragraph, the 'they' in 'if they did..' should read 'if the Muslims did this'

Well what to do about this desire for world domination, delusions of grandeur. Everything under Islam. No thanks! India still suffering the brunt of this ideology and now the west is getting a bitter taste of it. In its wake there is everything that is anti democratic, anti human dignity and anti freedom of expression, thought and life of choice and dignity.

In such places, lawyers still have souls. Can you imagine the ACLU or any American bar association refusing to represent Jihadis here?

If only the Shiv Sena would focus on this, instead of North Indians...

When the "true islamic PURE Pakistan was formed, India should have forced all it's muslims to move there.

It feels strange to have to defend lawyers but there is such a thing as court-appointment. Someone would have to represent them in an American court. If they can't find counsel the judge will name someone. If they don't receive a vigorous defense the judge could set them free.

Are these the harbingers of things to come things that the free world dreads: Oppression, tyranny, herd mentality, a world order dictated by the sharia, where discrimination of non Muslims is paramount, where women are considered sexual property. Where any question of the tenets of Islam is subject to summary execution. Where all things are at the mercy of Allah. Where human choice is dictated by the doctrines of Islam that are against human creative and critical thinking of the world around us to uplift humanity and to alleviate suffering through science, arts and human creative spirit, but to solve everything by suicide bombings and "Allah wills it".

"....for the cause of Islam."

EVIL - they forgot to include the word evil - for the evil cause of Islam.

Islam is hazardous waste material and it needs a proper death & burial. Flowers/cards optional.

India's trajectory towards super-power status has one major obstacle...the presence of a large and growing disaffected Muslim minority within the country. Couple that with a negationist, apologetic culture existing within much of the Hindu majority (particularly its elite)...and you have some tell-tale signs of civilizational failure down the road.

What do you suggest they do to fix the problem?

Posted by: thenorth [TypeKey Profile Page] at April 10, 2008 5:09 PM

cornelius, This all goes back to that great multi culuralist and wishful thinker, Gandhi. Despite his insistance that all muslims and hindus are one people and brothers, the muslim created pakistan for themselves. A state for muslims of India. Immedietly many muslims fled to Pakistan while hindus fled fron pakistan. But this great Gandhi once again insisted that India is a seculer state and thta muslims should stay here as equal if not privilaged citizens. So many muslims stayed based upon his promises. The remaining hindus in Pakistan are treated as second class citizens doing most of the work the muslim see unfit for themselves.
This growing muslim community in India is now a privilaged minority and a vote bank for politicians who give them almost everything they want. and what these muslims want eventaully is a complete takeover of India and turn it into a taliban state like pakistan.
But there is a way to stop this nonsense. That will be to expose, expose, expose Islam. Expose islam for what it is, a death cult of a pervert prophet. Incourage drawing of muhammed, expose his sordid lifestyle, make fun of islam. If any muslim does anything illegal send him to jail. and most of all have a reverse muslim migration out of india and into the islamic paradise pakistan and bangladesh. Incourage them to migrate if they don't like living in India.

Prophet Muhammad and his Islamic Tribe's Mass-murders; a page from history

………"During the Arab invasion of Sindh, India (712 CE), Muhammad bin Qasim first attacked Debal; It was garrisoned by 4,000 Kshatriya soldiers and served by 3,000 Brahmans. All males of the age of 17 and upwards were put to the sword/slaughtered and their women and children were enslaved. "[Seven hundred] beautiful females, who were under the protection of Budh (that is, had taken shelter in the Budhist temple), were all captured with their valuable ornaments, and clothes adorned with jewels."……………

****************
Today's religious map of the Middle East traces to the unification of the Arabian tribes under the banner of Islam in the 7th century, and their subsequent conquest of much of the known world. Muhammad's was clever enough in finding a way to unite the myriad of fissiparous, feuding Bedouin tribes of northern Arabia into a cohesive polity. Just as he had provided a custom of rules under which the people of Medina could live together, so he enlarged that tradition for all Arabs, but this one had the imprimatur not just of Muhammad, but of an Allah, submission to whom called -- Islam -- spelled out in the Koran, bound Arabian tribesmen into the community of bedouin believers, the umma.

Building on the tribal system of "balanced opposition," Muhammad was able to frame an inclusive structure within which the tribes had a common, Allah-given identity as Muslims. But unification was only possible by creating a tribalized enemy against which Muslims could make common cause. This Muhammad did by opposing Muslims against infidels; and the dar al-Islam, the land of Islam and peace, against the dar al-harb, the land of infidels and conflict. Through the precepts of Islam, traditional Bedouin raiding was sanctified as an act of Islamic religious duty.

With every successful battle against local unbelievers, especially after the critical early battle against the Meccans, more Bedouin joined the umma. Once united, the Bedouin warriors of the umma turned outward, destroying the world on the of jihad, holy war. The rest, as they say, is history.

The Arabs, in lightning thrusts, challenged and beat the Byzantines to the north and the Persians to the east, both weakened by their continuous wars with one another, thus imposing their control over the Christian majority in the Levant and the Zoroastrian majority in Persia, and therefore over the entire Middle East. These stunning successes were rapidly followed by conquests of Christian and Jewish populations in Egypt, Libya and North Africa's Maghreb (Arabic for "the West"), and, in the east, central Asia and the Hindu population of northern India. Not content with these triumphs, Arab armies invaded and subdued much of Christian Spain and Portugal, and all of Sicily. Since the Roman Empire, the world had not seen such power and reach. All fell before the Saracen blades.

Most accounts of Islamic history, even that of the Lindholm's esteemed « The Islamic Middle East », glide over these conquests, as if they were friendly takeovers. But the truth was very different.

The evidence is overwhelming that vast numbers of infidel male warriors and civilians were slain, and that most of those spared, particularly the women and children, were enslaved for domestic and sexual servitude. While men who willingly converted were spared, their wives and children were taken as slaves. In conquered regions, children were regularly taken from parents, while on the borders -- especially in Central and Eastern Europe, Central Asia and Africa south of the Sahara -- raiding for slaves was normal practice. Of the male slaves, a substantial number were made eunuchs by the removal of sex organs, in order to serve in harems. This account of the Arab campaign in northern India illustrates the usual procedures:

"During the Arab invasion of Sindh (712 CE), Muhammad bin Qasim first attacked Debal; It was garrisoned by 4,000 Kshatriya soldiers and served by 3,000 Brahmans. All males of the age of 17 and upwards were put to the sword and their women and children were enslaved. "[Seven hundred] beautiful females, who were under the protection of Budh (that is, had taken shelter in the temple), were all captured with their valuable ornaments, and clothes adorned with jewels." Muhammad dispatched one-fifth of the legal spoil to Hajjaj, which included 75 damsels, the other four-fifths were distributed among soldiers."

The multitude of reports from Muslim, indigenous and other sources of the Islamic conquests are equally detailed and equally daunting to a modern reader. It is true that throughout history intergroup relations in most of the world were exploitative and repressive, and not infrequently brutal and bloodthirsty. The world of Islam was not so much an exception to this, as exemplary of it.

The theological foundation of the Arab Empire was the supremacy of the Arab Islam and the obligation of each Muslim to advance its domination. The notion of Jihad, in particular, served to establish the Muslim community's permanent state of war against the dar al-harb until the infidels' conclusive submission and the absolute world supremacy of Islam.

Yet even as Islamic armies were coming to dominate the known world, fissures emerged within Islam, which would give rise to the bloody internecine battles that continue to this day in Iraq and elsewhere.

Most notably, the relentless oppositions within tribal life have been reflected on a large scale in the battles between Sunni vs. Shiite, a battle originating in a squabble between closely related kin groups over the leadership of the Islamic empire following Muhammad's death. Their divergent philosophical orientations are based on two tribal principles: Sunnism recognizes leaders based on an enforced consent; Shiism recognizes leaders based on descent. The continued anatagonism between the two groups constitutes one of the many ways in which the tribal spirit continues its dominance in the Middle East.
