We have seen Gitmo recidivism before, and it's no surprise. When the inmates there see American soldiers handling the Qur'an with gloves, in implicit acknowledgment of their unclean status as non-believers as per Qur'an 9:28, what is disabusing those inmates of their conviction that that same Qur'an, divinely inspired, commands them to wage war against infidels?
"Ex-Guantanamo inmate in Iraq suicide bombing: TV," from Reuters (thanks to Sr. Soph):
DUBAI (Reuters) - A Kuwaiti man released from the U.S. prison in Guantanamo Bay in 2005 has carried out a suicide bombing in Iraq, his cousin told Al Arabiya television on Thursday.A friend of Abdullah Saleh al-Ajmi in Iraq informed his family that Abdullah carried out the attack in Mosul, his cousin Salem told the Dubai-based television channel.
"We were shocked by the painful news we received this afternoon ... through a call from one of the friend's of martyr Abdullah in Iraq," said Salem al-Ajmi in a telephone interview aired by Arabiya. [...]
Abdullah, 30, had a son after he was released from the U.S. naval base at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, where the United States holds suspected terrorists, Salem said....

Fantastic. At least one mujahid who won't be re-captured, and given the 5-star treatment at Camp Gitmo again.

This is a perfect example of how mindless our leadership can be when approaching the problem of Muslim terrorism.
Telling our soldiers to wear gloves when handling the Qur'an is nothing short of acknowledging the sacredness and respectability of a book that is neither sacred or respectable.
Muslims don't need their twisted theology reinforced by us. They need to be told the unvarnished truth about the immorality of their religion. And if that means they feel insulted, so be it.
The people desperately need to be told the truth. How else will they ever hear it, if not from us.

The cosequences of our politically correct stupidity cannot be understated. The stupidity of handling the enemies evil book of doctrines with honor disgusts me. Note this: Every drop of sweat that we so foolishly shed 'honoring' these mongrels will be matched with at least another gallon of our OWN BLOOD. The United States of America - Icabod!

So more blood on the hands of those human rights activists who campaigned for his release from Gitmo. Of course, nobody expects the civil libertarians to accept at least some responsibility for this latest atrocity.

If it had happened in Afghanistan, it might have been the guy who fell down the stairs.
Reading the full article, it doesn't say how many people were killed in his attack, if any, and who they were (Sunni's, Shi'ites, Iraqi Christians, U.S. soldiers, etc.).
I don't see any reason for the U.S. to feed, bathe, clothe, and provide Qur'ans to jihadis for the rest of their comfortable lives at our expense at Guantanamo. If they get out and kill each other in intra-Islamic warfare, I'll try not to break down sobbing, but our focus should be on keeping them away from infidels, which may have been the case here.
In fact, if we were fighting the jihad with intensity and without kid gloves, I can imagine creating our own Mariel boatlift to repatriate ex-Guantanamo inmates with or without their governments' permission. Dropped back into their homeland from a height of say 5000 feet. With a parachute, of course. That would give the homeland governments (I'm thinking of a certain country on a certain peninsula in particular) something to think about, something to deal with, besides creating a global caliphate.

special_guest,
I like the airlift also, but why can't we just drop them all over Mecca? We'll be doing them a favor. Call it our good deed for the day.
They can do their hajj right then and there before the Saudis figure what to do with these innocent and wonderfully observant Muslims.
Of course that's provided the parachute doesn't get stuck on a minaret. (Do the Saudis have any emergency teams to get them down from the GM? Should make good television.)

Once again, the POW calculus:
1) You don't ever want to fight anyone twice;
2) Some POWs may have useful information;
3) Capture, relocation and detention of POWs requires the
use of scarce resources.
I'll do the math.

This news is not surprising; no one seriously thinks ALL the Guantanamo inmates are innocent and that NONE are jihadists. However none of them should be tortured and all should be under the protection of U.S. and international law. Bush's original plans were to use the base as a law-free zone where he could do anything he wanted to them. That's what has made it a concentration camp, not the uniforms and barbed wire. If they're being held for crimes they should be properly indicted and tried in impartial courts with access to defense counsel and to the evidence against them. If they're really belligerents they should be treated as POWs and held until we leave Iraq and/or Afghanistan. It's not that we should let them all go without restriction but that we should handle them in accordance with the law, and not let Bush, Cheney, Yoo, Addington and company make up things as they go along.

As far as I'm concerned everyone at Gitmo is lucky to be alive. Historically, when you're caught on the battlefield area in the situations in which they were caught you are summilarily executed, if not tortured first. Knuckleheads who airily speak of 'laws' concerning these terrorists make me sick. Personally I think President Bush has done a pretty darn good job as far as Gitmo goes. Stand now and be counted you fool idiotic leftists, you're going to get us all killed with your naive stupidity.

Ah yes, another stunning example of how the pervasive practice of sedation TRULY works for the current repressive regime of the United States. Nobody thinks this man possibly became an extremist BECUASE of the inhumanities he received at the hands of the seditious dogs who posed as "captors"? Or perhaps he lost his own personal struggle with the immorality of "jihad" AS A RESULT of his captivity? Or, as the most logical discourse would suggest, the sack of shit liked being a marshmallow. Thanks for coming out.

4. Handling.
a. Clean gloves will be put on in full view of the detainees prior to handling.
b. Two hands will be used at all times when handling the Koran in manner signaling respect
and reverence. Care should be used so that the right hand is the primary one used to manipulate
any part of the Koran due to the cultural association with the left hand. Handle the Koran as if it
were a fragile piece of delicate art.

Schwyndfst, my favorite piece of nuttiness is the following:
http://www.theaustralian.news.com.au/story/0,20867,21773436-1702,00.html
CAIRO'S al-Azhar Islamic University has suspended a lecturer who suggested men and women work colleagues could use symbolic breastfeeding to get around a religious ban on being alone together.
The lecturer, Ezzat Atiya, had drawn on Islamic traditions that forbid sexual relations between a man and a woman who has breastfed him to suggest that symbolic breastfeeding could be a way around strict segregation of males and females.
But after controversy in the Egyptian and Middle East media, university president Ahmed el-Tayeb suspended Mr Atiya overnight pending an urgent investigation into his opinions, the Egyptian state news agency MENA reported.
Mr Atiya is the head of the department that deals with sayings of the Prophet Muhammad and the university is part of the al-Azhar institute, one of the most prestigious in Sunni Islam.
Mr Atiya's unusual opinion was widely publicised by Arabic-language satellite television channels and featured in a discussion in the Egyptian parliament.
The Dubai-based channel Al Arabiya quoted him as saying after five breastfeedings the man and woman could be alone together without violating Islamic law and the woman could remove her headscarf to reveal her hair.
But a committee from al-Azhar said his proposal contradicted the principles of Islam and of morality.
Mr Atiya had said he had drawn on medieval scholarship to justify his position. The opposition party newspaper al-Ahrar overnight quoted him as saying he retracted his views because they were based on the opinions of a minority of scholars.

Bush's "gesture to the friendly government of Kuwait": let loose jihadists jenocidal toward the Americans.
Bush's "gesture to Tony Blair": release rabidly anti-American Paks with British citizenship who were caught by the Northern Alliance while fighting jihad against the US.
Bush's "gesture toward the friendly govermnent of Australia": release David Hicks, the pathological, sadistic murderer who voluntered for jihad and butchered Serb civilians in Kosovo, shot Hindus in Kashmir, and tried to do the same to the Americans in Afghanistan, but was captured by the Northern Alliance.
And America's own traitor John Walker Lindh is to Bush just "a poor fellow who obviously was misled".
No wonder Bush's "war on terrorism" goes nowhere.
