To discuss "Islamophobia" in the U.S., UN official meets with those who say that condemning Hamas and Hizballah would be "Islamophobic"

Which means that the State Department itself, in classifying them as terrorist groups, is "Islamophobic." I am confident that in his report Doudou Diène will not shy away from that conclusion.

Anyway, it wasn't just Ahmed Bedier. Diène met with a full rogue's gallery:

"U.N. Rapporteur Turns to Usual Suspects on 'Islamophobia,'" from IPT News, June 13 (thanks to all who sent this in):

[...] Yet a volunteer for the UN Commission on Human Rights met last month in southern California with a group of Islamists, well known for their habit of crying wolf about hate crimes, while at the same time offering more than a winking endorsement for acts of terrorism and broad support for terrorist groups.

Doudou Diène, a UN "special rapporteur," attended a meeting May 28 in Anaheim, organized by the Islamic Shura Council of Southern California, to hear about what the Council calls "Islamophobia," racism and discrimination against Muslims, the Council announced in a statement. The UN says special rapporteurs "are unpaid and serve in a personal capacity, [who] receive their mandates from the UN Commission on Human Rights."

Any hate crime is a pox on our nation. But as we reported last fall, the data fails to support the notion that Muslims are being targeted disproportionately. The most recent FBI report, covering 2006, documented 2,640 hate crimes against African-Americans, 1,195 hate crime incidents based on sexual orientation, 967 incidents targeting Jews and 576 anti-Hispanic hate crime incidents. The report cites 156 anti-Muslim hate crime incidents.

These are the statistics, despite the efforts of groups like the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) who stay vigilantly on the lookout for any opportunity to promote an alleged hate crime, even when the facts ultimately fall short.

Among those who helped bring Diène to town were Shura Council chairman Muzammil Siddiqi, two representatives of CAIR, and Abdel Jabbar Hamdan – a former fundraiser for the Texas-based Holy Land Foundation for Relief and Development (HLF).

According to a statement, Siddiqi praised Diène's visit: "The Muslim community has continually supported law enforcement efforts and condemned terrorism," Siddiqi said in the statement. "However, members of the Islamic faith suffer from ongoing prejudice, discrimination and hate crimes."

CAIR's Hussam Ayloush added: "A comprehensive solution to the growing problem of Islamophobia should involve educational initiatives for the public, as well as persistently challenging anti-Muslim rhetoric by officials and pundits, which sometimes leads to hate crimes against Muslims."

The Islamic Society of North America (ISNA), CAIR and others have condemned the Al Qaeda attacks on America. But elements of CAIR have pushed conspiracy theories that the attacks were done by others and orchestrated to hurt Muslims. And they resist challenges to condemn attacks by Hamas and Hizballah by name.

Furthermore, it is misleading to claim that they offer consistent support to law enforcement. Siddiqi, Ayloush and their respective organizations issue knee-jerk condemnations of all counter-terror investigations that target suspected radicals and American-based financing of terror committed abroad, as part of a "war against Islam." And it is precisely this mantra which Canadian intelligence cites as the most critical factor in radicalization.

[...]

These are the people with whom Diène met to discuss the depth of "Islamophobia" and what should be done about it -- people who think it is "Islamophobic" to designate Hamas, Hezbollah and the Palestinian Islamic Jihad as terrorist groups. According to the Council statement, Diène intends to issue a report on Islamophobia to the U.N. for release in 2009.

What? UN special rapporteurs are unpaid?

This is a scandal!

Anyone working for the UN and not being paid at least a zillion dollars is a disgrace!

We need a fight-back label to counter intimidation by charges of “Islamophobia” and politically correct respect for Islam. I suggest the labels
“Islamonaïve“ or ”Islamonaivete” .

To think these guys are just harmless youths with fireworks and that CAIR is simply a civil rights group is just Islamonaive.

Political correctness, as perpetuated by the Left, is destroying the West from within.

What will be the next "phobias" decried by the U.N.? Illegal immigrant phobia? Or maybe something like rapistophobia? Or murdererophobia? How long will it be before every completely justifiable threat is determined to be a "phobia" by the U.N.?

If the U.N. is so concerned about the U.S., perhaps they can revoke our membership and relocate their headquarters to somewhere more friendly, like Gaza or Tehran. As for CAIR/ ISNA, since our nation is so unfriendly to them, perhaps they can pack up their un-indicted co-conspirator bags and leave.

What a celebration that would be! I mean, break out the fine crystal! Then break out the Moet!

AND CELEBRATE - I MEAN, DANCE IN THE STREETS!

What a wonderful fantasy!

Great news! If you're straight, white or Oriental, or Native American, you'll never be a victim of a so-called hate crime.

Where are the Effa-Bee-Eye's stats on these victims? How about hate crimes committed against women? What, no women were raped, killed, beaten or assaulted in 2006? I'll bet there were more of these than of crimes based on "sexual orientation".

News flash, statisticians and the people who employ them: All deliberate crimes are hate crimes! That's right! ALL of them.

Hate is at the bottom of every murder, assault, theft, rape, home intrusion, burglary, vandalization, and domestic dispute.

Hatred can be more temporary than insanity, but you can bet it's present, at the commission of any crime.

I say treat the UN as they should be treated - ignore them. They are a useless group and we should be shunning them, cutting back on our tax monies to them and if they won't leave of their own volition - then make it so they want to leave by cutting the paychecks.

The source for the statistics about hate crimes can be found here:

the FBI Uniform Crime Reports, 2006 Hate Crime Statistics

http://www.fbi.gov/ucr/hc2006/victims.html

Nationwide, the FBI reported approximately 10,000 hate crimes. Of these, about 50% were based on race, and about 20% were based on religion. Of the crimes of a religious nature (approximately 2,000 of the total 10,000) over 60% of these were directed against Jews, while only 10% were directed against Muslims.

According to U.S. government statistics, there is no great epidemic of hate crimes against Muslims here in America. The rate of hate crimes against African-Americans is ten times that of hate crimes against Muslims. The rate of hate crimes against Jews and homosexuals and whites are all five times higher than that of hate crimes against Muslims. The rate of hate crimes against Muslims is more in line with the rate of hate crimes against Catholics or Asians.

This is not to justify any hate crime against Muslims. Any crime against person or property is wrong. There is no great "Islamophobia" sweeping the nation, as some of these people suggest.

Posted by: deer.valley.ed [TypeKey Profile Page] at June 14, 2008 11:29 AM

I might add if you wanted to normalize these based on Muslims as a percentage of the population, that the figures would be higher. Catholics, for example, are a large majority while Muslims are a small majority. There's about 13 million Asians, while only about a million Muslims nationwide. If you looked at it this way, you could suggest that the rate per capita is much higher.

Whoops, forgot to add this to my last post.

There's only about two and a half million Jews in the U.S., while the rate of hate crimes against them is five times higher than those against Muslims. In terms of raw numbers or in terms of per capita figure, Muslims living in the U.S. have less to complain about than Jews living here.

Is it possible to have Islamophobiaphobia?

If so, I think I've got it.

Doudou' Diène of the UN, something smells when the name sounds and smells bad.. get rid of the UN!

Posted by: ZenaWarriorPrincess [TypeKey Profile Page] at June 14, 2008 3:46 PM

Why would anyone expect the UN to concern themselves with the mayhem in the rest of the World. It is just their Culture don't you see. something we all need to embrace and have dialog with. We need to bond with their misery and share in it with them.

The UN has become a body of Tribes.

What about hate crimes against whites? I heard David Horowitz talking at a conference last year in relation to how of all crimes where one victim is one race and the perpetrator another, 90% were black on white crimes.

I would never advocate violence, but the idea of Muslims talking about human rights (as with this delegate) is truly ludicrous.

The west is slowly killing itself. What was the point in repelling the Japanese and Hitler's Germany if the west is giving itself away?

1. Slowly? Things are happening quickly.

2. The West wasn't insane during WW2.
