Female suicide bomber targets soccer fans in Baghdad

Soccer jihad -- fan of the China team? "Female suicide bomber strikes soccer fans in Iraq," by Kim Gamel for Associated Press, June 14 (thanks to JCB):

BAGHDAD - A female suicide bomber targeted a crowd of soccer fans celebrating Iraq's win in a World Cup qualifier on Saturday, wounding at least 34 people near a cafe north of Baghdad, police said.

The young woman, who was covered in a traditional black Islamic robe, was dropped off by a car shortly before the attack as dozens of cheering young men poured out onto the streets after watching Iraq beat China 2-1 on television in the cafe in the town of Qara Tappah.

The woman told suspicious police that she was waiting for her husband but blew herself up after an officer spotted the detonator and began screaming at the crowd to disperse, according to the town's top administrator, Serwan Shukir.

Seven police and 27 civilians were among the wounded, Shukir said, but the officer's warning had averted a higher casualty toll by preventing the woman from reaching the bulk of the fans.

Police Capt. Najib Khourshid said she was about 20 yards away from the crowd when the blast occurred.

"About 100 people were in the cafe and we went out to celebrate the victory after the match. Minutes later, a big explosion took place near us," said Salman Hameed, who was wounded in his chest and right hand. "The female bomber has spoiled our joy and celebration."...

But it was a political act, which makes it okay?

OT, but this linked column is nothing short of revolting:

http://www.guardian.co.uk/commentisfree/2008/jun/13/israelandthepalestinians.usa

The author calls RFK's assassination an eminently political act, which, to him, justifies it.

He closes with:

"If Israel had never come into existence, or if the United States had not supported it, or if Kennedy had not reaffirmed that support, Sirhan would probably never have pulled his trigger."

If we follow his line of reasoning, imagine how different our world might be if Mohammed had been killed rather than worshipped. What if Meccans had killed him rather than let him escape to Medina?

"A female suicide bomber targeted a crowd of soccer fans celebrating Iraq's win "

Even when Muslims win, they lose. Being a Muslim must boggle the mind.

It is only natural for people in a Judeo/Christian society to feel compassion for those injured in a senseless attack like this, but one has to wonder what the reaction of these mangled people would have been if one of their Islamic brothers or sisters had detonated a bomb in London, Paris or New York?

If history is any guide, they would be celebrating in the streets.

We've all heard the biblical quote, "those who live by the sword, die by the sword".

Muslim sicieties live by a creed that glorifies violence and oppression -- even against there own people --, so they have no right to expect anything less than perpetual suffering and death.

It'll stop only when they are able to recognize the connection betweeen Islam and the dysfunctions in their societies -- and not before.

Oh yeah. They'd be "Allahu akbaring" like no tomorrow.

These are all good comments, but I just can't shake the idea that she was a fanatical Muslim fan of the Chinese soccer team bent on celebrating in her own inimitable Muslim manner.

"The female bomber has spoiled our joy and celebration."

That's the only thing Islam does - bring misery.

Remember the Muslim convert that prematurely blew himself up on a bench outside the Oklahoma University football stadium a year or so ago? Right before the game ended. A short while later the crowd would have been emptying from the stadium onto that street, as I recall.

We've been really lucky so far here in the U.S.A., since 9/11.

It's not that the Muslims are not trying. They're still at it.

The problem is that our great American Press Corps has its eyes closed, ears and mouth covered.

Sinister stuff, this Islam.

The officer who spied the detonator and sounded the alarm is a hero. I hope he's okay.

He is a Hero. God bless him and keep him.
