Undercover detective finds jihadist activity in New York mosques

This will come as no surprise to anyone who is aware of the 1991 Muslim Brotherhood memorandum about that organization's "grand jihad" in the United States; Sheikh Muhammad Hisham Kabbani's 1999 testimony about 80% of mosques in America being under the leadership of extremists; and the 2005 Center for Religious Freedom report about the massive distribution of hateful jihadist and Islamic supremacist material in mosques in this country. It will come as no surprise to those of us who have noted the utter failure of the Muslim community in America to do anything to teach against the jihad ideology.

"Undercover city detective finds hints of danger among mosques," by Patrice O'Shaughnessy for the New York Daily News, July 5 (thanks to all who sent this in):

A young undercover city detective spent four years in the shadowy world of terrorist wanna-bes - taking part in jihadist discussions and training in parks in the dead of night - to get a handle on the homegrown threat.

At great personal risk, he participated in everything from prayers at a mosque to martial arts training under cover of darkness to watching jihadist videos, with many of the activities laced with talk of killing, according to a source familiar with the undercover's investigations.

His experiences paint a vivid portrait of the potential for local terror. While the picture is in no way indicative of the city's Muslim population as a whole, it provides insight into its most radical element.

The detective spent his time interacting with informal groups of youths and men who shared extremist views - and his experiences illustrate what police say is the potential for radicalization of some elements in the community.

He reported that after prayers at a neighborhood mosque, there were often private classes that included discussions about bombing different areas.

The men discussed violent jihad in bookstores, private houses and on buses en route to paintball and shooting-range events.

He was invited to join in "bonding" activities like working out at a gym and martial arts training in parks at night, during which the group discussed ideological justifications for killing Westerners.

He also watched military movies and jihadist videos with groups of young men in private homes. During one such evening, one man got so excited he punched a wall.

The detective reported that some youths became extremists after they traveled to their home countries; others went on the hajj - the pilgrimage to Mecca - and came back fired up by imams who encouraged violence as a religious obligation.

This will come as a surprise to Dinesh D'Souza, who can always be relied on to come to the exactly wrong analysis of the jihad threat. But much more important than D'Souza are the multitudes who will continue to assume that this agent is exaggerating, or that he happened upon a jihadist cell while the overwhelming majority of Muslims reject the jihad ideology. That is false. The overwhelming majority of Muslims is not doing anything to further the jihad ideology. But that is not, unfortunately, the same thing as rejecting it.

This is the religion of violence and oppression. It is religion that teaches hate and bigotry. It teaches violence towards women and children. A political system that uses kidnapping, raping and bombing of non Muslims to advance it ideological and political mandate under the guise of a religion that has been erroneously portrayed to be a religion of peace. Many have been fallen into the trap and many continue to equate that US policy is the reason for the hate.

When will the Patrice O'Shaughnessys of the world stop undermining their own message? They go out of their way to tell a hard truth about the Islamic community and yet, while standing on the precipice, always retreat.

Individual Muslims are completely irrelevant when compared to Islam and its historically inimitable tenets. Muslims who shape the doctrine in the mosques for their adherents however, are relevant, and just because to date there are far more Muslims who have not directly engaged in jihadist activity than those who have, provides absolutely no cause for celebration.

Unless the Islamic texts are compelled to be subject to modern exegesis, a prospect most unlikely at best, the only way to blunt the global advancement of Islamic supremacism via jihad is to properly re-classify Islam as a political ideology as opposed to a religion.

Daunting tasks indeed.

This fits "nicely" with "Al Qaeda's Plan B":

Now Naji takes that analysis a step further - suggesting that low-intensity war be extended to anywhere in the world with a significant Muslim presence.

Islamists in the "wilderness" must create parallel societies alongside existing ones, Naji says - but not set up formal governments, which would be subject to economic pressure or military attack.

These parallel societies could resemble "liberated zones" set up by Marxist guerrillas in parts of Latin America in the last century. But they could also exist within cities, under the very noses of the authorities - operating as secret societies with their own rules, values and enforcement.

But they could also take shape in Western countries with large Muslim minorities: The jihadis are to begin by giving areas where Muslims live a distinctly Islamic appearance, by imposing special styles of dress for women and beards for men. Then they start imposing the shariah. In the final phase, they create a parallel system of taxation and law enforcement, effectively taking the areas out of government control.

The "wilderness" will provide the cover for bases for jihad operations. Jihad would be everywhere, rather than in just one or two countries that the "infidel" could hit with superior firepower.

IN a notable departure from past al Qaeda strategy, Naji recommends "countless small operations" that render daily life unbearable, rather than a few spectacular attacks such as 9/11: The "infidel," leaving his home every morning, should be unsure whether he'll return in the evening.

Anyone see the story on the Washington Post website on Sunday about using biometric collection for identification of terrorists overseas and finding that about 1 in a hundred has a record in the US?

I dunno. It seems indicative of islam, as a whole, to me!

The detective reported that some youths became extremists after they traveled to their home countries; others went on the hajj - the pilgrimage to Mecca - and came back fired up by imams who encouraged violence as a religious obligation.

One solution: leaving America is one-way for any and all Muslims. No return ticket allowed.
Go on the hajj - and stay in Mecca.
Travel to your home country - and stay with your relatives.

That's part of the problem today. It used to be that coming to America was a one-way trip. Those who came almost never went back. The act of coming meant they were ready to start a new life with new people. It put the onus on them to assimilate. Now America is an address, a spot on the map.

From the article:

"He reported that after prayers at a neighborhood mosque, there were often private classes that included discussions about bombing different areas.

"The men discussed violent jihad in bookstores, private houses and on buses en route to paintball and shooting-range events.

"He was invited to join in "bonding" activities like working out at a gym and martial arts training in parks at night, during which the group discussed ideological justifications for killing Westerners."

Paintball and shooting-range events.

Gym. Martial arts training.

Memo to all my fellow kafirs: if, as this worryingly suggests, many if not all male Muslims living within kafir lands are engaging in active combat/ paramilitary training, we had better hurry up and make sure that we are doing likewise.

For our *daughters*, as well as our sons. From age 12 on.

The Israeli, Singaporean and Swiss model of post-high-school basic military training for all citizen children is looking better and better all the time.

Next time I visit my dad and my brother up at the farm, maybe I get them to teach me and the rest of the family a few things...

It's interesting that he mentioned the hajj.

"some youths became extremists after they traveled to their home countries; others went on the hajj - the pilgrimage to Mecca - and came back fired up by imams who encouraged violence as a religious obligation".

In Simon Winchester's "Krakatoa" he notes that jihadi activity (though he doesn't refer to it as such) increased markedly in Indonesia after more modern forms of transportation - steamships - made it quicker, easier and safer for larger numbers of the (previously mostly pretty 'lax') Muslims of the East Indies to carry out their obligation to visit Mecca.

The hajj has been viewed by westerners as an innocent 'religious' or spiritual activity ...peaceful pilgrimage (like Jews going to the Kotel or Christians going to Canterbury or Rome, or Hindus going to Varanasi).

Maybe it isn't. Maybe it's the pillar of Islam which means that Muslims from all over the world - and let's face it, up until the modern era, those most likely to make the hajj and survive the journey and return, would be men of military age - get their jihad instructions renewed and reinforced at Central Command, all ready to take back home and 'infect' others.

"The overwhelming majority of Muslims is not doing anything to further the jihad ideology. But that is not, unfortunately, the same thing as rejecting it."
==========================

After all, Islam teaches that there will finally be peace when the whole world has come to Islam. So the majority, those moderate, peace-loving Muslims, won't actually commit any violence to bring this desired end-of-days about... but they'll certainly not interfere in Allah's Perfect Plan to unite the world under the leadership of the Best of All People.

If the REST of us want to keep our freedom and our science, our monogamy, our religion and culture, our books and music, we'd probably better start letting our elected officials know what we expect of them (ie, not submission to CAIR's whines; and not "Islamic sensitivity training" for our anti-terror agents either!). We need to publish more cartoons and Mohammed jokes (which tell the REAL truth of what Islam is like). We need to write letters to the editor and submit comments on our local news outlets' websites when we read articles sympathetic to "accommodating Islamic religious sensibilities" or announcing CAIR's "fears that Muslims are being regarded with suspicion when they're just normal people trying to make it in America -- this great melting pot of immigrants of different cultures" yada-yada.

The Islamists have a great taqqiya machine going... we need to shine the light of truth into Islam's dark corners (and there are LOTS of dark corners that need to be illuminated...)
