Turkey: honor-killings perfectly acceptable

Though this study is revealing, it fails to note the correlation between religion and honor-killings. In other words, of all the honor-killings that occur, what percentage of them are at the hands of Muslims, Christians, Jews, etc.? Who, pray tell, has the lion's share? "Honor killing perpetrators welcomed by society, study reveals," from Today's Zaman, July 12 (thanks to Writer Mom):

A study being conducted by a team from Dicle University in the Southeast on honor killings has so far shown that little if any social stigma is attached to the act.

Anthropologists, sociologists, psychologists and social workers are involved in the study, due to conclude in August. Associate Professor Mazhar Bagli from Dicle University Department of Sociology is supervising the study.

The team visited 44 prisons in the region and interviewed 180 perpetrators of honor killings. Of these, 100 percent say they do not regret their actions, Professor Bagli notes. In some cases, the victim’s relatives even praised the perpetrator, he adds.

Causes of honor killings vary. “It is not appropriate to associate honor killings with only one section of society. Some people think that it is related to a feudal structure, but this has proven to be false. There are also perpetrators who are well-educated university graduates. Of all those surveyed, 60 percent are either high school or university gradates or at the very least, literate. The victims of honor killing are not always women; males have also been targeted,” Bagli says.

Bağlı said cheating is an unforgivable act in the Southeast, even for a woman who “cheats” after divorcing her husband by remarrying.

But I guess it's ok for a man to remarry after divorcing his wife. . . .oh wait, he doesn't have to divorce his wife until he has 4.

In my limited knowledge of the worlds religions, there is only one that I am aware of that would kill a woman for getting remarried after a divorce.

By all means let them join the E.U.

Well, it sure would be hateful to think that honor killings and Islam had anything to do with one another. Hey, no correlation whatsoever.

Of all those surveyed, 60 percent are either high school or university gradates or at the very least, literate.

That just about covers the gamut of education. It also leads one to assume that forty percent of those surveyed are illiterate. Is that something the Turks are proud of?

In the US many women are killed by male family members. They're not honor killings with the support of a community behind them. No matter what the provocation, short of self-defense, no man who commits such an act is automatically cleared. Adultery is not a valid defense.
In this world of moral relativism one can only suppose OJ Simpson's crime will now be portrayed as an honor killing?

What religion actually sanctions killing someone else for the sake of your own honor, with the exception of Islam?
Forget what happened ten centuries ago. What about today? The rest of the world has moved on. Why is Islam mired in 10th century mores?

Honour killings will limit their genepool to breeder robots, any women with any sign of independance is killed. perhaps they can develop living uterus to have children and keep all their men alone to kill each other.

The sad thing is, the very people who ought to be raising hell about it - feminists and secular liberals couldn't care less.

They don't even care if its done here in the U.S.

Yet these same groups regularly portray white males as some sort of genetic backwash unfit for even living.

Its my opinion that American feminists and secular liberals will do everything possible to help Muslims impose the shariah on us.

Much the same way the German intelligensia aided and abetted Hitler in his rise to power.

Which is why it behooves them to marry their girls young. By the time the woman shows a glimmer of independent thought, she will have had one or two babies while in her teens and so killing her will not adversely affect the gene pool. Her children will live on.

In Islamic lands where "reasons of honor" is only a mitigating sentencing factor, the perpetrator may get several years in prison. To circumvent having adult men serving time in jail and depriving their families' of a provider, adolescent boys are coerced into committing the murder. Imagine, a mere child coerced into killing a mother, a sister or a cousin. That is even more monstrous than the murder by itself.

This article raises more questions than it answers. 180 honor-killers are in prison; how many are out on parole, or have been released after serving their term? What is the typical prison term for an h-k? Men are victims, too; what did they do to offend honor? And, as Raymond asked, how many are non-Moslems?

Turkey is not a Muslim country...............is it?

Still denying the Armenian genocide; so, yeah, it is an Islamic state.

But still, the Prophet and his crew would never kill...........hmmm, can't think of anything they won't kill.

Alright, there must be some connection between "honour" killing and Islam. Just don't tell Muslims, they're very sensitive.

I wish to put forth an argument to infidels who sympathize with the plight of Muslim women . Not all Muslim women are oppressed, barefoot and pregnant. For our sake, I wish they all were. There a plethora of highly educated, quite intelligent, independent, tough and ruthless Muslim women, but many are staunch apologists for Islam and great supporters of the Jihad. Frankly, careful analysis show that it is to the advantage of the infidels to have more Muslim women oppressed and denied an education. For example, an Egyptian-born lesbian feminist, professor Leila N. Ahmed of Harvard, a woman who owes everything to the Western liberal tradition, is a staunch defender of the Islamic tradition vis a vie the treatment of women. How did the West benefit by empowering her, treating her as a human being, rewarding her talent and intelligence, respecting her lifestyle choices ? Evidently, our interests would have been better served if she was married off as a teenager to an older man in her native Egypt, as it is the custom under Islam. Countless other Muslim women are helping the propaganda effort, and they are considerably more effective than men. Why would we want to improve the literacy rates of Muslim women? Is it so that they could read the Quran and the accounts of Islamic heroes to their young children as bedtime stories? I ask that you keep your feminist sympathies in perspective. If the enemy is stupid enough to shoot itself in the foot by squandering the potential of Muslim women and preventing it from being brought to bear on us, why would we try to help them out???

I once knew a tough and ruthless muslim woman. Her husband was a very nice muslim man. However, she kept him under her thumb by using islam against him. If he so much as thought a "wrong" thought, she hit him over the head with the koran. He therefore was a real "casper milk toast".

So I don't think we should feel sorry for all muslim women.

I am not surprised with the survey results. Not long ago there was a survey in Turkey that showed that the majority of Turks thought wife beating was acceptable. What could be the source for their justification? I guess it would be the same for honor killing.

And countless others are helping the propagation effort. Both are dangerous to civilization.

have_mercy,

There are no hard and fast rules. Not every woman supports terrorism and not every woman is a terrorist and not every woman longs for her child or husband to be martyred but there are far too many women in all of the above categories.
I find myself more in sympathy with the plight of western-educated women who are being held back by their fathers, prohibited from ever attaining their true potential.
The boys recently returned from the Pakistan madrassah are another example of children being held back by Muslim parents.
I worry less about the woman in Gaza than I do the young man or woman in the US or Europe who is Muslim only by birth and is looking to make a break from Islam.
Rather than keeping the women barefoot and pregnant, producing a new jihadist every year or so, why not prevent them from having children in the first place?
China has a one child policy. Maybe it's time for something similar to be implemented in Muslim countries as a precondition for getting Western aid of any kind. Otherwise, let them pay for all their own kids and keep them in their own countries. No immigration to the West allowed.

have_mercy: You raise an interesting point but, in the final analysis, what we're faced with is a cult so enveloping and so invidious that many of the women in it, one way or another and regardless of educational level, are a menace to freedom and democracy and other good things sensible people should cherish. After all, we certainly have plenty of examples of well educated Muslim men who do evil in the name of their religion and plenty of examples of badly educated Muslim men who also act nefariously while invoking Islam as a cover. In other words, Islam somehow finds a way to mess up most everyone believing in it--------and also be a burden to non-Muslims throughout the world.

Additionally, and arguing in the alternative, couldn't it be maintained that the greatest chance a Muslim female has to rid herself of all those ponderous Islamic chains is to be educated sufficiently enough to see what a mental, physical and spiritual prison Islam is for womankind? Tough call, no? Reasonable minds can differ here. The constant is the menace which the Islamic faith is to the world at large. Might be the case that (respecting education of Muslim women) the world is damned if it happens and damned if it doesn't.

I agree with you insofar as I have zero sympathy for vaginal Mohammedans when it's a question of them being at the receiving end of things - whether it's a 6 year old Paki being sold in marriage, or a 16 year old Turk being honor killed. And I too have no problems with them being left oppressed and barefoot, but pregnant? Are you sure you want them popping out more Mohammedans like confetti? As it is, in your Egypt, Copts are outnumbered 9:1; if they do as you suggest, the number will be 99:1, since nobody can compete with Mohammedans when it comes to converting women into super-tilths.

The solutions are simpler than you suggest - quarantine the ummah out of the West, and the problem will solve itself. You aren't going to see a lot of black klansrobes in al Azhar U, so that problem will take care of itself.

PMK:
There should be hard and fast rules- Rules of engagement that governs every conflict. Although our enemy is an ideology, and not a race, a nation or any other human distinction, we have to confront it by diminishing the capacity of those who adhere to it to do us harm. If that involves denying them any type of support or encouragement that may enhance their position, then that is what we have to do. We can not afford to parse out Muslims into good and bad. They, properly to no fault of their own, found themselves in the fold of Islam. However, even those who do not practice or support violent jihad are still a threat as Muslims. Even the non-violent ones use whatever position they get in infidel lands to enhance the cause of Islam by proselytizing, engaging in propaganda and pulling the curtains over they eyes of their infidel they come in contact with. I do not see why you would you feel bad for the western educated Muslim girls who are not allowed to get a job or travel on their own. So what if that good Muslima girl cannot use her education to get a job! Do we need anymore hijabed women targeting vulnerable women in their work place for conversions, or having a wider forum for propaganda and Islamic intimidation of infidels who do not buy into it, or demanding special accommodation, or getting patriots fired from their jobs for saying something that offended them! The good Muslimas are out doing their part- I do not see adding to their ranks will do us any good, on the contrary. Also, the more you add to one place, the more they form Islamic groups where the fanatical ones radicalize the rest. It does us no good to even waste a second worrying about them not living up to their potential. I guess the laws of diminishing returns and unintended consequences come to mind.

Infidel Pride:
Pregnant would not matter if close the tap on food and medical giveaways. The filthy impoverished lands of Islam will see a sharp decline in population if the West cut off aid in the form of food, vaccines and other medical supplies. And Egypt has not been mine or any Copt for 1440 years. The Copts , in my opinion, are facing extinction. Their position is entirely untenable much like all the non-Muslims in the Middle East. My land is the United States and my people are true American patriots anywhere in this great land. We can hope, but I do not see the infidels quarantining Muslim lands ever.

Sure--let Turkey into the EU--what problems could that possibly cause? And after that, pursue Sarkozy's "club med" embracing of all the wonderful countries of mare nostrum--it'll just be one big happy economy.

The idea that any of these people could hold ideas entirely inimical to Western democracy and justice is given nary a consideration.

This news item was quoted with a clear bias. Dicle University is in the Kurdish region of Turkey and is attended almost entirely by Kurds. In addition, honour killings are a speficially Kurdish phenomenon in Turkey. And yes, Kurds are very religious, male chauvinistic, and overall support the ill treatment of women. These are facts that the "Western" media deliberately ignores when reporting honour killings in Turkey. You sound very ignorant when you try to make judgement about Turks armed with next to no knowledge about them. And sure enough, Armenian fanatics cannot stop themselves from "reminding" the world on each occasion about the so-called genocide. There are fanatics outside of the muslim faith as well. There are a few basic facts that you may need to learn:

- Turkey is a secular, not an Islamic country. Even though the current government is trying make it so with support from the EU and USA.

- Polygamy is illegal in Turkey. But it is illegally practiced by Kurds that do not report such marriages by engaging in religious marriages that are not recognized by the state and therefore are not reported.

Your hatred for Islam should not blind you into hating everyone that has some degree of association with this religion. You then become none other than a racist.
