Chertoff: "European terrorists" trying to enter the U.S.

Conspicuously absent from this story is any mention of the ideology driving this group of "terrorists" and why it is present in Europe, aside from passing mention of al-Qaeda in the third paragraph. Yes, anyone reading will know Chertoff isn't talking about a band of disgruntled Lichtensteiners, but the unwillingness to call jihadists "jihadists" (or even "Islamists" or other variations) reflects a more general mindset that misdirects efforts in both foreign policy and national security. And of course, it also puts the remarks in the article in line with current DHS policy.

"Chertoff: European terrorists trying to enter US," by Eileen Sullivan for the Associated Press, July 18:

WASHINGTON - European terrorists are trying to enter the United States with European Union passports, and there is no guarantee officials will catch them every time, Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff said Thursday.
Chertoff's comments on Capitol Hill comes as the country is entering a potentially vulnerable period with the presidential nominating conventions coming up next month; the presidential election in November; and the transition to a new administration in January — all of which may be attractive targets for terrorists.
In his last scheduled appearance before the House Homeland Security Committee, Chertoff said that the more time and space al-Qaida and its allies have to recruit, train, experiment and plan, the more problems the U.S. and Europe will face down the road.
"The terrorists are deliberately focusing on people who have legitimate Western European passports, who don't appear to have records as terrorists," Chertoff told lawmakers. "I have a good degree of confidence we can catch people coming in. But I have to tell you ... there's no guarantee. And they are working very hard to slip by us."
Chertoff and other intelligence officials have delivered similar warnings before, and he offered no new information about specific threats or an imminent attack.
Chertoff reiterated his concern that terrorists could sneak radiological material into the country on small boats or private aircraft. This material could be used to create an explosive device known as a "dirty bomb."...

How do you know they aren't Baptists?

Chertoff is such an idiot! But I guess W. "knows his heart" or something. We can't even NAME the enemy, so how the hell are we supposed to defend against these murdering sonsofbitches?? Does Chertoff think Batman is going to save us? And these people are conservative Republicans?

Does anyone out there still deem "racial profiling" unthinkable?

President Bush and his administration are beyond parody.

Well under very stupid PC customs people it will not
too difficult!

As John Bolton stated, the Bush administration has lost its way since 9/11. It is my belief that the fifth column Muslim influence has pecked away at the state department leaving idiots like Chertoff to defend us. Unfortunately, another attack the likes of 9/11 will be the only thing that will bring back the focus and people like John Bolton will be called upon to confront the enemy instead of being secluded as "radical" thinker.

If European terrorists want to enter our country they will find our borders wide open and people ready to welcome them.

Everyone in government or on the Left.

In this case though, we shouldn't be practicing racial profiling. It should be religious. No Muslims allowed. They should not be allowed even to board the plane. Remember Richard Reid.

Wait a minute! Terrorists from Western Europe???

I thought all terrorists came from impoverished backgrounds... isn't poverty and oppression what breeds terrorists?

Posted by: baest [TypeKey Profile Page] at July 18, 2008 9:41 AM

Because Babtists are identifiable by their brown triple-knit polyester suits and black shoes.

Yes, European terrorists carrying European passports will be difficult to detect at the border, Europeans like Muhammad Bouyeri or Tariq Ramadan. Why, they just blend right in, these European champions of European values like freedom of conscience, equality of genders, and the rule of man-made law that proceeds from the fountainhead of reason. Besides, there are only so many security resources to go around and they are kept busy x-raying and sniffing all the Gertrude Smiths that come in from Europe these days that they are strained to the breaking point: TSA

But, don't you see, the Moslems in Europe are impoverished and oppressed. Even with the full load of welfare benefits they're less well off than their kaffir neighbors who work for a living. And then the bigoted kaffirs force them to live in public-housing ghettoes, and prevent them from fully practicing their religion -- no FGM, no wife-beating, no raping of "uncovered meat", no killing of apostates. Oh, they're sooooo oppressed, the poor dears. It's no wonder their anger sometimes boils over in the form of rioting, looting, and bombing.

Chertoff is talking nonsense. Mexican grandmothers with no papers at all and their pregnant daughters are still simply walking into this country. Chertoff can not truthfully say that he has any idea who is here already. Bush has totally failed as a leader, and Chertoff is his minion.
/That is all.

Grover Norquist is one of the biggest exponents of bringing radical Muslims into the GOP and the Gov't.

Google Norquist, Sami Al-Arian, and Abdurahman Alamoudi.

He even established "the Islamic Institute" to whitewash Muslims and dress them up.

In short it isn't political correctness driving it. You have a bunch of powerful radical nutjobs like Norquist and Rove among others who want to destroy this country.

Chertoff: "European terrorists" trying to enter the U.S.

This reminds me of when I was 16 years old and in a swimming pool. Suddenly the lifeguard started yelling for someone to please save some guy that was drowning. The lifeguard was just standing by the edge of the pool yelling and doing nothing.

A swimmer finally did save the guy, no thanks to the lifeguard. (True story)

Posted by: Spot on [TypeKey Profile Page] at July 18, 2008 1:49 PM

Great analogy, Spot on.

That would make us the swimmer(s).

Posted by: undaunted [TypeKey Profile Page] at July 18, 2008 3:03 PM

Undaunted

Yes. We be the swimmer(s).

Posted by: Spot on [TypeKey Profile Page] at July 18, 2008 4:39 PM

Come on Chertoff. Quit being so PC. We're not talking about European Terrorists here. We're talking about Extreamist Muslim European Terrorists. Tell it the way it really is, and not how you want to white-wash it.
PROFILE!

Well let's just pray to Almighty God that the ones who make in in don't have any of THIS with them!
