Guess this is the "thanks" the descendants of the great "Negus" -- the king of Ethiopia during Muhammad's time who provided shelter and refuge to the first Muslim community -- get in return. "Muslim Mob Stones Christians in Eastern Ethiopia," by Michael Ireland, for Worthy News, July 30:
ETHIOPIA (ANS) -- A mob of Islamic extremists stoned Seid Ahmed and Musa Ibrahim [names changed for security reasons] in Jijiga, a city on border with Somalia. The attack is the latest attack against Christians in Ethiopia where the spread of radical Islam is fueling the persecution of Christians.ICC (International Christian Concern) www.persecution.org says that on July 19, 2008, Ahmed and Ibrahim were going to a church meeting when they were confronted by nine extremist Muslims yelling anti-Christian slogans. The extremists started hurling rocks at the two Christians.
Ahmed, who is a church leader, was hit by eight stones and suffered a severe concussion and injuries on his torso. He was admitted to Karamara Hospital where he was treated for his injuries.
Ibrahim escaped physical harm as he fled the scene to call the police who never arrived to stop the attack. The mob finally dispersed when Ibrahim ran in the direction of the local police station.
ICC says that Jijiga is the capital city of Somali Regional State, which is one of nine states in Ethiopia. The majority of residents in Somali State are ethnic Somalis who are majority Muslim.
According to ICC, this is not the first time that Christians have been attacked in Jijiga. On August 5, 2007, the Ethiopian Full Gospel Church in Jijiga was bombed. Though the church was packed with five hundred people, no one was hurt by the explosion. The same church was attacked by bomb five years earlier.
ICC's Regional Manager for Africa, Jonathan Racho, said, "Unless the growth of radical Islam is curbed in Ethiopia, the attacks against Christians will continue to rise. Ethiopian government officials, particularly local officials in Muslim dominated areas of the country, should be made accountable for failing to protect Christians against such attacks."
ICC is a Washington-DC based human rights organization that exists to help persecuted Christians worldwide. ICC delivers humanitarian aid, trains and supports persecuted pastors, raises awareness in the US regarding the problem of persecution, and is an advocate for the persecuted on Capitol Hill and the State Department.

how long shall the world wait for interfaith groups to voice disgust at such intolerance? these so often fail to speak out against such lawlessness under the excuse of seeking "peace," that their wisdom is ignored.

They should also hold the local imam responsible for stirring up the local mob against the Christians.

When Western Christendom was, and keenly felt, besieged by the forces of Islam -- for the Muslim raids up and down the coasts of Western Europe, as far as Ireland and even, in one case, as far as Iceland, in which the Muslims seized booty, and seized, for future enslavement, Christian men, women, and children (google "Jihad Watch" and "Thomas Pellow" for the case of one Cornishman who was seized and taken back to Morocco, written about in Giles Milton's "White Gold")-- it was natural for Christians to fantasize about a powerful Christian ally, on the other side of the Muslims, who could be called upon to help, who would help rescue, Christians in Wesetern Christendom, by allying with them and attacking the Muslims who continued to maraud and to murder, whenever they could.
And that place was called the Kingdom of Prester John. He, this fantastic yet hope-giving figure of Prester John, was in the imagination of Western Christians powerful and good, though he lived and ruled over a distant land, a land beyond the Muslims. At first, Western Christians located this land of their imaginings in India; later, in those same imaginings, they moved the Land of Prester John to Ethiopia. This was the Christian kingdom -- and it was a Christian kingdom -- that would come to rescue them.
It's a curious story, in the history of the West, and a highly revealing one, and ordinarily the story of Prester John is told without any notice being taken of the clear fear-of-Islam promtings behind it.
Modern Ethiopia, though still Christian, is suffering from an internal Musliim threat -- the threat of demographic conquest. The Muslims are simply doing what they do elsewhere, which is outbreeding the Christians. Talk to any Christian Ethiopian -- say, that nice exchange student in town -- and you will discover the anxiety they feel, and how happy they are to find Americans as alarmed by the steady encroachments of Islam as they are. And if a few words can be dropped to show some familiarity -- "Dergue," "Mengistu," "Haile Selassie,""the Abuna," "Danakil," "Adowa," and suchlike -- all kinds of information will spill forth when the dam breaks, information that will enlighten you. I've tried this out myself, using the "Books on Africa" section of a bookstore in a campus town, as the best place for setting up such "accidental" and useful encounters).
Right now Ethiopia suffers from the Muslim threat to its east, and also one, unrecognized outside Ethiopia, to its north, from the malevolent Arabs of Sudan, pushing pushing pushing, and behind them, hidden from view, the Arabs of Egypt, who are hell-bent on stopping the people of Ethiopia from diverting, and using for their own purposes (Ethiopia having endured famine, the result of drought, many times in recent decades) some of the headwaters of the Nile. For the Egyptians are protecting the Sudan, as best they can, and suppor the Sudan in its efforts to drive out, or greatly diminish the numbers, of black Africans, whether they are the Christians and animists who by the millions have been murdered (or caused to starve to death) in the south, or the black African Muslims in Darfur.
Why? Not only in order to more thoroughly islmamize, and then arabize, the Sudan - an artifical construct where,a century ago, most of the population was non-Arab, save for a small part of the north -- but also to proceed southward, to Ethiopia, in order that that bastion, as it was always seen, of Christianity can be islamized too, and its non-Arab Muslims forced to become more obedient to the dictates, including those about diverting the headwaters of the Nile, that the selfish and overbreeding Egyptians think they can permanently control, permanently treat as their private property.
Now, in a reversal of the Middle Ages, it is Western Christendom, or rather its modern successors, the Infidel nation-states of Western Europe and North America, that must now come to the rescue of what, a thousand years ago, was seen as the mythical kingdom ruled by Prester John,that would come to the rescue, by attacking the marauding Muslims from the other side.
A fantastic story, then, and now.

Too bad it carries the same letters as that group in Belgium. How many people scanning the article and seeing ICC will automatically think International Criminal Court?

Many Christians, whether they're actual victims of this type of attack or not, consider this to be "persecution" and count it as a badge of honor. These people should not be expected to be on the side of anyone suggesting that the persecutors stop or be stopped.
Whether this is the "persecution" of Christians mentioned in the Bible remains to be seen.
To make matters worse, and I do mean worse, many Christians see these attacks as an opportunity to "shine the love of Christ" into the hearts of unbelievers. Many of them think that if we just wash the feet of these stoners and killers, doves will settle on us all and peace will come.
This is not turn-the-other-cheek stuff.

It still amazes me, but *yes* stoning is alive and well in Islamic countries.
A young American woman, who was teaching in Java, had boys through pebbles at her when she went jogging. Was she wearing revealing clothing? No. She wore pants, long sleeves and a head scarf (which her school insisted she wear).
Her offense seemed to have been existing.

She was a woman alone, without a male escort. Even if no skin or hair was showing the pants and shirt would probably have had to be loose and baggy to avoid being called unislamic. Don't they hate seeing even the outline of a woman's body? Whether or not she followed all the directives, it shows the paucity of Islamic morals that they would ever consider such behavior toward anyone to be acceptable.

Muslims *do* love throwing rocks at people, don't they? Especially, they like throwing stones at people who can't or won't throw back.
The template is the 'stoning of satan' ceremony that they do during the Hajj. Because all of us kafir - Jew, Christian, Hindu, animist, Sikh, atheist, agnostic, Buddhist, Taoist - *are* Satan, to their twisted little minds.
A year or so ago, I waded through all the 'reports' of the Useful Idiot 'Ecumenical Accompaniers for Peace in Palestine and Israel' on the World Council of Churches Website. Three or four years' worth.
One favourite image of these shameless propagandists was to liken the Arab Muslim bullyboys of the 'intifada', tossing rocks at Jews, to...David.
What they didn't seem to grasp at all is that rock-throwing has a completely different meaning for Muslims.
Sure, the rock-throwers of the 'intifada' appeared to have less firepower than those they were stoning (though often, behind the rock-throwers were adults with guns, carefully not mentioned by any propagandist).
But what they were doing with their rocks was signalling pure contempt and murderous hatred. They were symbolically 'putting the Jews in their place' - they were 'stoning Satan'.
Muslims have been throwing rocks at non-Muslims for centuries; two centuries before the much-sentimentalised 'intifada' the jeering Arab Muslim lads would have been throwing rocks - and probably dung - just the same, at some utterly defenceless Jewish rabbi or Christian priest, simply to punish him for the sin of existing. Bat Yeor remembered her elderly aunts, in Egypt, being pelted with stones by Muslims when they tried to visit the Jewish cemetery before leaving Egypt.
*That* is the model that lies behind the stone-throwers of the Intifada. Human beings possessed by hate and overweening and baseless pride (Muslims) who are programmed to see the Designated Others (non-Muslims) as non-persons, as things to be despised, and used, abused, humiliated in a thousand cruelly inventive ways, ways that remind one of nasty psychopathic children pulling the wings off flies for fun or torturing cats.
