Pakistan denounces recent U.S. attack on Taliban stronghold

Perhaps after years of Pakistani double-dealing, the U.S. military is finally realizing it's best to rely on itself in the war on terror. "Pakistan: US responsible for deadly attack, says military official," from AKI, September 4 (thanks to Jeffrey Imm):

(AKI) - American forces were responsible for Wednesday's deadly raid on a suspected Taliban haven near the Afghan border that has generated widespread condemnation in Pakistan, an unnamed senior official has said.

According to Pakistan's Geo News, a senior US military official conceded US forces were behind the controversial assault on the alleged militant stronghold that took place on Wednesday in the South Waziristan tribal area.

Pakistan's government has condemned the action which killed 20 people.

The US official, speaking in Washington on condition of anonymity because of the sensitivity of cross border operations, said the raid occurred just inside Pakistan.

NATO helicopter gunships attacked the militants' stronghold in the Angoor Adda area, less than two kilometres from the Afghan border.

Pakistan's Foreign Minister, Mehmood Qureshi, on Thursday called the incident in Angoor Adda shameful, regrettable and surprising.

No, minister, what is "shameful" and "regrettable" is when your so-called "ally" treacherously warns and supports your enemy. In light of that, there is nothing "surprising" when the betrayed -- the U.S. -- relies on itself to defeat its enemies.
According to the state agency, Associated Press of Pakistan, Qureshi said it was an ‘unforgivable incident’ and that the country's sovereignty had been violated despite its central role in the war against terrorism.

“Pakistan is committed to fight against extremism and terrorism and our track record proves that (the) Pakistan Army have laid down their lives to fight this monster,” he told the National Assembly.

[...]

Meanwhile Adnkronos International's correspondent, Syed Saleem Shahzad, said that the British High Commission closed its visa application centre in the capital, Islamabad, because of a security threat.

The move came amid reports that 26 police recruits had been kidnapped by gunmen in the town of Hangu in North West Frontier Province.

[...]

Pakistan has been a US ally in its fight against Islamist militancy since the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks but the US has been frustrated by Islamabad's failure to destroy militant strongholds and stop extremists from moving into Afghanistan.

Well, it's only had seven years to do so...

This is not surprising. Whenever the US kills terrorists in Pakistan the Pakistani government complains. Whenever terrorists cross the border into Afghanistan and kill women, children, NATO soldiers the Pakistani government is silent.

Get that oil out of Alaska, find alternatives, then tell the muslim world to Foxtrot Oscar. Have nothing more to do with them. Repatriate the invaders, incaserate the converts.

$30 billion in military and economic aid, and debt forgiveness, has been lavished by the American government on Pakistan, and on Bush's loyal friend whom he not only could count on, but who of course would remain forever in power, since late 2001 alone.

And before that, decades of non-stop aid, especially military aid -- including top-of-the-line F-16s --to Pakistan, aided by the devotion of generations of American diplomats and generals, so enamored of those ramrod-straight terry-thomas-moustachioed Pakistani generals, regarded as our true-blue allies not despite but because of Islam, for Islam was seen only, by the Dulles brothers and those at that uncomprehending level, as a "bulwark against Communism," comparing so favorably with those Indians, seen as oily untrustworthy and marxisants, that America-bashing Krishna Menon with his New Left Book Club subscription, that supercilious Jawaharlal Nehru with his Fabianism presumably intact (why else would he have allowed the Soviets to build a steel mill for the Indians, were he not untrustworthy?).

It's taken a long time to figure out that Pakistanis -- all of them, even the least Muslim and seemingly the most Western of them (such as Pinky Bhutto, whose happiest days were spent walking from Briggs Hall to Nini's Corner to buy, unaccompanied by bodyguards, newspapers and magazines, but who can be seen on YouTube ranting hyusterically as she calls for Jihad against Hindus in Kashmir). A long time, and a lot of money.

If the government of Pakistan dares to criticize the Americans for taking the most minimal measures to stop the Taliban (and Al Qaeda) from wreaking havoc in Afghanistan, the same Pakistani government that continues to protect, continues to make unavailable to American interrogators the sinister I.S.I. man, A. Q. Khan, and if the Pakistanis continue to stand in the way, then let's simply cut the whole country off, cut off all aid, but also cut off its ability to export goods to America and the rest of the West. And in tandem with Great Britain, end all air ties to Pakistan, and end all immigration -- including that phony "family reunion" business -- from Pakistan. And make it a point to investigate the tax-paying practices of Pakistani-owned "convenience stores" (oh, and check to see how many are here illegally -- a recent New Yorker article on shoplifting rings mentions that one of the most succcessful of such gangs consisted of "thirty Pakistanis, most of them illegal immigrants, some of them the owners of convenience stores") and rug stores (how many of those Pakistani rug dealers sell rugs made by child labor, Christian-child labor, in Pakistan?), and systematically put pressure on, investigate, find out all the ways that Pakistani immigrants have fiddled the system, here and in Great Britain. It wouldn't be hard to use the tax laws, and other laws, to reduce to manageable proportions the threat some pose, and to change the behavior, if not the real attitudes, of others, as they begin to realize that they are not home-free, as too many Muslims appear to believe, and appear they can continue to press and make demands when they are vulnerable to such investigations of their commerical and tax-paying practices.

Oh, one more thing.

We want that thirty billion dollars we have in the last seven years lavished on a mendacious and largely unhelpful Pakistan back. We want it now.

Pakistan complains a lot but does little.
It is not going to risk the fat jizya check, and the status as a world power (because of nukes), over a few dead terrorists in a village somewhere.

But then, it is possible for muslims to shoot themselves in the foot, they do it all the time.

Islamic paradises are like that...

.....having it both ways.......

One common trait of human behavior these days is having it both ways; or hypocracy. Psychologists would categorize this tendency as sociopathic, or obsessive-compulsive. For example, in the case of Pakistan, pretending to be our friend (for money of course) and actually being our enemy at the same time.

In the case of liberal American politicians, it is actively destroying America while pretending to 'save' it, just for the goal of obtaining political omnipotency.

America can be lost forever if we do not stand up. I give us 20 years tops.

September 6, 2006 Pakistan signs peace deal with pro-Taliban militants
April 24, 2008 Pakistan is negotiating a new peace agreement with Baitullah Mehsud
May 28, 2008 Pakistan strikes deal with the Taliban in Mohmand the third such agreement in northwestern Pakistan since April 20.

Pakistani sovereignty over the NWFP exists in name only.
Pakistan has been partitioned, because Pakistan lost the war they were fighting with the Taliban.
They negotiated a settlement (Many settlements). They withdrew.
They haven't quite come to grips with that fact.

While Pakistani control over the territories does not exit, it is in the interest of both Pakistan and Talibanistan to pretend to the West that it does.
Pakistan gets to pretend that it is a global nuclear power, which hasn't lost, and the Taliban get the cover of international law against incursions upon a sovereign state.
It is a fact that parties on the "Pakistani" (Talibanstan) side of the border are planning, training for and launching terrorist attacks across the border.
Therefore defensive or preemptive attacks against aggressive parties within Tailbanistan by Afghani, or NATO, or US forces are completely proper.

We must remind ourselves that the same top officials of our government that watch our borders are also watching the Pakistan border. Mexico tells our government to jump, and they jump then give more money to Mexico. Now Pakistan tells them to jump, and I am waiting to see what is next.

Oh by the the yankies should keep in mind that 'the Bear' prowls once more and we have certainly taken notice of it and this time around there wont be any help from us for the Bear trap.

So just F U C K off , we are sick of being your 'ally'

'The US official, speaking in Washington on condition of anonymity because of the sensitivity of cross border operations, said the raid occurred just inside Pakistan.'

TREASON!!! Plain and simple. Why is there not an effort to find these traitors betraying our country and putting all Americans and our national security at risk?!

Believe me, I'm all for freedom of speech and freedom of press and all that, but some things just don't need to be leaked in a time of war, or say, worldwide aggression against us.

This struggle we're in, at all levels, all of us, will fail if actions like this continue without consequence. Unbelievable.

And to this dou che PAKROCKS: who somehow gets the notion that his country RESERVES THE RIGHT TO HIT BACK against our continued aggression: I assume your not sitting on the AFG/PAK border quietly observing Jihad Watch, you'd probably have better things to do, maybe like planning cross border raids into another country to attack soldiers, from yet another country, strictly because we're American. I'll tell you from first hand experience that it can get real boring waiting for you guys to come over, and we get a little tired of waiting for your wailing mothers and mean-mugging brothers(who I'm sure will be showing up next week to avenge you against our "continued aggression")to come pick your dead asses up after you catch a .50 Cal API round to the dome. So forgive us if we get a little curious about what exactly is going on on YOUR SIDE OF THE BORDER WHERE MOST OF THE PROBLEM IS COMING FROM. Are you not aware of how our oh so aggressive country feels about countries that harbor terrorists? In closing, if our aggression is so troubling to you, I implore you to feel free to wander over and try to deal with it yourself.

If terrorists can gain safe harbor in Pakistan, and the Pakis don't want to turn them over, then we have no choice but to take care of business ourselves.

"...we're sick of being your 'ally'." paksucks

You mean you're sick of pretending?

That's Ok - you give us 20 years - I give you about 20 days, after we leave; then you can stick your piece of crap country where it belongs.

Did anyone hear that Al Zawahiri (Al Quada #2) is running as a write-in candidate for President of Pakistan? I heard something to that effect on NPR. I am sure that NPR would support him over the two major Pakistani candidates. The fact that he is a citizen of Egypt could pose a problem.

Link to NPR story about Al Zawahiri's message (in English, since he presumably does not speak Urdu) to the people of Pakistan.

Transit routs by Land and Air through Pakistan cost a lot of money.
