Islamic charter school takes "confrontational road" with Education Department

Here again we see the same story playing out: Muslims asserting a right to do things that are at variance with American law, or culture, or custom, and not being willing to compromise in the slightest degree, while American officials scramble to find ways to accommodate them.

This is the third story in this line that I have posted just today. We will see more and more of these stories, as Muslims demand accommodation of their practices in the U.S., and Americans bend as much as they can to allow for that accommodation -- but what will be the outcome of all this? If no American entity is ever willing to draw the line and end the accommodations, when will the demands for accommodation end? At what point? When we have accommodated Islamic law in its entirety and have become an Islamic state? Is there any reason to believe that Muslims will stop pushing for accommodation at any point short of that?

An update on this story. "Storm brewing between state officials and Muslim school," by Katherine Kersten for the Minneapolis-St. Paul Star Tribune, September 10 (thanks to all who sent this in):

Last week, Tarek ibn Ziyad Academy (TiZA) and the Minnesota Department of Education appeared to reach an understanding in the controversy over whether Islam is being promoted at this public school.

But behind the scenes, a storm may be brewing.

TiZA officials have "taken a confrontational road" in discussions with the department, according to Deputy MDE Commissioner Chas Anderson, the department's No. 2 official.

Anderson says that the two sides have not yet reached an agreement on one key issue and that MDE will be closely monitoring TiZA's performance in future months.

TiZA is a K-8 charter school in Inver Grove Heights, financed by taxpayers. Its students have scored well on standardized tests. But like all public schools, it may not encourage or endorse religion, or favor one religion over another.

A number of facts raise questions about TiZA on this score. Its executive director, Asad Zaman, is an imam, or Muslim religious leader. The school shares a building with a mosque and the Minnesota chapter of the Muslim American Society, which the Chicago Tribune has described as the American branch of the Muslim Brotherhood -- "the world's most influential Islamic fundamentalist group."

The Muslim Brotherhood, of course, is engaged “in America [in] a kind of grand Jihad in eliminating and destroying the Western civilization from within and ‘sabotaging’ its miserable house by their hands and the hands of the believers so that it is eliminated and Allah’s religion is made victorious over all other religions.” — Mohamed Akram, “An Explanatory Memorandum on the General Strategic Goal for the Group in North America,” May 22, 1991

Most of TiZA's students are Muslim, many from low-income immigrant families. The school breaks daily for prayer, its cafeteria serves halal food (permissible under Islamic law), and Arabic is a required subject.

School buses do not leave until after-school Muslim Studies classes, which many students attend, have ended for the day.

Last spring, MDE opened an investigation after press reports raised questions about whether TiZA has been blurring the church/state line. The investigation focused on the school's 30-minute Friday communal prayer event, among other issues. The service -- led by adults -- has been conducted on school premises, and both students and teachers have attended.

In a report issued in May, the MDE concluded that TiZA's Friday prayer event violated the law and since then has been working with the school to make changes.

"We wanted TiZA to do Friday prayers the way all other public schools" handle similar activities -- "as release time, under state law," said Anderson. In a release-time arrangement, students move off-site for religious activities.

But TiZA said no, according to Anderson. Instead, the school will continue to hold Friday prayer on its premises. Students will lead prayer and staff will be present only "to ensure student safety," said Zaman in a letter to the MDE.

In a response to Zaman's letter, Anderson wrote complaining of what she called the "defensive tone" of the letter in which he set forth the school's intentions. "It is inaccurate for TiZA to imply that MDE's legal concerns regarding the school's operations ... were unfounded," she wrote, "and it is of utmost importance that TiZA take seriously its responsibility to comply with applicable state and federal laws."

TiZA now says it will shorten Friday prayers -- whose length has been a potential concern because of instructional time requirements -- though it has not said by how much.

MDE has agreed that TiZA's new arrangement on after-school bus transportation will bring the school into legal compliance on that issue. But the department is highly skeptical that TiZA's proposed arrangement for on-site, student-led Friday prayers will work. [...]

While TiZA and the department don't agree about the Friday prayer service -- even over whether they have an agreement on it -- there are other religious accommodations at the school that raise questions. In its May report, for example, MDE said that regularly scheduled daily prayers at TiZA appear to pass legal muster because they are "voluntary and student-led."

But imagine the reaction if prayer time -- reflecting only one faith -- were built into the schedule at, say, Stillwater Junior High.

Asked if other public schools would be allowed to accommodate religion the way that TiZA accommodates Islam, Anderson said: "We sought guidance, we want guidance" from federal sources and the Minnesota attorney general, "but no one will give us a black and white answer."

MDE says there are broader questions at issue. "This upcoming legislative session may be an appropriate forum" for "a serious discussion about the appropriateness of sectarian organizations sponsoring publicly-funded nonsectarian charter schools in the first place," said Anderson in a statement Monday.

For now, she added, "This is a gray area. School authorities at TiZA know it's a gray area, and they are walking right up to and over that line."

Indeed they are.

If Muslim citizens are allowed to have explicitly religious charter schools, then why can't there be explicitly Christian and Jewish charter schools?

If Muslim children are led to pray against Christians and Jews, why can't Christian and Jewish schools do likewise?

How can ACLU and Americans United for the Separation of Church and State complain if they do nothing about this clear breach of church / state separation?

ACLU must support (overtly religious) Christian and Jewish public school funding. Fair is fair.

It's like the rules apply to everyone but the Muslims.

I'm really good and sick of this. Reading this site becomes a form of masochism. It's like we Jihad Watchers are gluttons for punishment.

Tomorrow is 9-11. Tell me again why we have these Muslims inside our country? Tell me again why we gave them amnesty, freedom, opportunity.

Ban Moslem immigration!

Ban it now.

And close that goddamned school down!

I just sent this to the author (Kersten):

"Please consider how much you could bring to the public forum by discussing further the Muslim school story and others. I offer this after years of sober study and inquiry. Thank you, CD.

Islam is not a religion; it is a political-religious-judicial ideology as defined by the quran, hadith and sira as implemented under shari’a law. Islam replaces or subjugates anything non-Islamic. Wherever Islam grows, a state within a state develops and the existing government and unbelieving (kafir) culture is rejected. Again, an Islamic faction grows until it can conquer, by political or violent means, the established government.

The seed of this modern insurrection begins with a demand for deferential treatment of Islam, including insistence on religious accommodations, judicial separateness, and general cultural and educational non-integration. In addition, imagined affronts to Islam are claimed and redress demanded. Islam, through sharia and tradition, denies equal rights to women, disallows religious freedom and repudiates a host of other values we hold dear. Muslim-Muslim relations are completely separate from Muslim-kafir relations, where deceit is common. Islam is incompatible with our values and sensibilities of freedom and secularism. ..."

It continues and includes the 4 Stages of Islamic Conquest. I would like to scream and shout, but the media, with all its disfunction, may be a key to solving this non-sense.

Can we label this CHILD ABUSE? Stop the PUBLIC FUNDING! Demand ACCOUNTABILITY. We have sovereignty, or so I thought.

It's only beginning. Wait for the lawsuits against government -- at all levels -- observing the Jewish and Christian sabbaths by having gov't offices closed on Saturdays and Sundays, and on some Christian holidays, but open on the Islamic sabbath, Friday. Either have them open 7 days/week or closed on Fridays as well.
Also what about labor contracts or employer policies that mandate premium pay for Sunday work or for work on Christian holidays? Either make it regular pay for every day, or offer Islamic employees premium pay for Friday work.
Then what about public restrooms in gov't buildings (city halls, courthouses, schools and universities, airport terminals, etc)? Why aren't they required to install Moslem-style facilities? Including a supply of stones for wiping, although that might be a bit rough on the plumbing.

Has anyone taken notice of the name of this school? Tarek ibn Ziyad was the person who is credited with conquering and imposing Islam on Spain. Since when do we name American schools after enemies of western civilization. Would you allow your community to name your new elementary the "Hitler Academy" or the "Stalin Pre-school" or how about the "Attila the Hun High School"?

I suppose if you are a student at the Tarek ibn Ziyad Academy, you are reminded everyday of the ongoing jihad that continues through the last 1400 years of history.

There is NO FREEDOM in all of this.

It is not about freedom of religion.

It is about accommodation of TOTALITARIANISM.

This is the next wave of evil Nazism, Stalinism - just in different garb and language. Absolute power corrupts and Mohammed was as absolute as you could get, with ole Allah to back him up.

If we are partially defeated like Europe, it will be 200 years before we throw off this demon.

Yet another reason why the ACLU is a sham perpetrated on the American people.

Why is a school that violates the law using taxpayer money being allowed to continue operating? The school needs to be shut down and an example made of the Muslims involved. Muslims are free to operate schools that promote Islam they just need to pay for them themselves.Just as other religious groups own and operate privately funded schools that promote their religion. Just how hard is that for Muslims and politicians to understand?

These are the questions being posited on the eve of 9/11.

Prior to that date, few in the U.S. ever heard of islam; now, they are bending over at every opportunity to accomodate the ones you openly say they want to kill them.

Is this the result of Christianity?

I do not understand Christians at all. When it comes to their enemy the turn the other cheek, give up their cloak, and sing all the way to their deaths.

When it comes to their allies, the fume and seeth and assult with the ferocity of a lion protecting her cubs.

Christians will let their own children starve while they feed the hungry mouths of the babes that will slay their own children within a decade -- is that really what their Jesus had in mind?

If so, I think these Christians are sadly mistaken in their understanding of Jesus command them to do especially in consideration of the realization that most Christians that come to my mind really don't believe that the founder of their faith had any claim to deity -- he was only such a nice man after all.

It is I suppose for the rest of us to take up the battle in the field; and in the courts; and in the legislatures -- if there is to be any hope of Western civilization surviving another decade.

If this is left up to the dubious Christians to come to terms with the rising islamic threat -- the rest of us are doomed.

These Christians should understand the lessons of their parents, grandparents, and forefathers regarding islam.

It was these prior generations of Christians that fought, died, and left the freedoms we have today.

We will indeed learn a lesson one way or the other.

Tommorow is the anniversary of 9/11 -- I predict that it will pass unnoticed for now.

After all, it was a victory that was scored for islam that day, that ushered in all the victories we have witnessed since.

A sad recollection but sadder still that we must ask the kinds of questions that we have here.

My brother lives in Minneapolis, so I have been aware of this story for several months now. The school was, at one point, in violation of regulations by not displaying the American flag on its premises. The excuse given by Zaman, I believe, was that he did not know how to use the flagpole.....

It's really clear to me and those here who wish to be guided by PC and intimidation...but I'll say it anyway....is that the only solution to this madness is to wage our own war upon the Islamist and Mohammedan fascists who's only purpose is to impose Islam on all of us. They say history repeats itself....fine then. Another well organized defeat of Islam is being thrust upon us. And we should heed the call. It's not about Christianity of Judeo / Christian principles...it's about the very survival of all we've achieved in the last 232 years. Do you not think blood wil run in the streets if the Islamists have their way? Just look at "Great" Britian or France for your answer. The clarion call is here...and now.

This is what happens if you accommodate Muhammedan demands in civilized countries:

Muslim school closed as director charged

A PERTH Muslim school has been shut down for focusing too heavily on religious instruction, as its director was charged with fraud over the alleged theft of $355,934 from the college's federal funding.

That money, Australian taxpayers money, has of course been used to fuel the jihad in Pakistan, Afghanistan.

http://www.news.com.au/story/0,23599,22895963-421,00.html

Alrightl, here's the whole thing:

A PERTH Muslim school has been shut down for focusing too heavily on religious instruction, as its director was charged with fraud over the alleged theft of $355,934 from the college's federal funding.

State Education Minister Mark McGowan yesterday closed Muslim Ladies College in Kenwick after a departmental investigation found the school was employing unregistered teachers and failing to comply with the West Australian curriculum.

With only five days to go until the end of term, Mr McGowan said departmental staff were working with parents to place their children in new schools from next year.

A separate police investigation has resulted in the arrest of the kindergarten to Year 12 school's acting director, Zubair Sayed.

Mr Sayed, who has been filling in as director of the school in Perth's southeastern suburbs since his brother Anwar went to Afghanistan earlier this year, appeared in Perth Magistrates Court on Saturday charged with fraud.

Police prosecutor Scott McCormick told the court Mr Sayed wrote a Commonwealth Bank cheque for $355,934, drawing on federal government funding for the college.

It is also alleged the school had been overclaiming for both state and federal government funding.

"This is a matter which is of extreme seriousness, whereby Mr Sayed obtained public money from the commonwealth by deceit," Sergeant McCormick said.

He told the court that detectives had discovered the money had been sent to Pakistan.

Mr Sayed was granted bail to reappear on January 2.

The Australian Federal Police said yesterday they were aware of the investigation but that at this stage it remained a state investigation.

Yesterday, Mr McGowan said the school, which had been inspected by the Education Department at least eight times this year, was not teaching students the subjects required under the curriculum.

"The school was not meeting the curriculum framework, with some of the students there undertaking religious instruction on a daily basis for 43 per cent of their time at school," he said.

"At all schools around the state we expect they will spend at least 50 per cent of their time on literacy and numeracy so when a school is spending 43 per cent of its time on religious instruction it is not meeting that requirement.

"I have taken strong action, the strongest action really available to me, and that is to close that school."

Mr McGowan said staff at the school had reported the problems to the department, which began its investigation in December last year.

"I am not aware of any complaints from parents but there have been complaints from staff at the school about the use of money and the payment of staff and so forth," he said.

"The report showed that some of the teachers have a limited authority to teach, and they are receiving no professional development. Many of the teachers are unregistered and there was no indication that they were going to become registered. When you add all these things up, there is layer upon layer of failure at that school."

Enrolments at the school, which has a twin college for boys next door, have dropped significantly over the past year.

At the beginning of 2007, about 90 students were enrolled but only 50 students remained at the college last week.

Mr McGowan said the department would be working with families to find places at other schools for those students.

"I suppose it is good that it has happened at the end of the school year. It means that those students will now be able to go to other schools with a minimum of disruption," he said.

Muslim Ladies College is independent of the Australian Islamic Colleges, which were raided early this year in relation to allegations of fraud involving state and federal government student subsidised funding programs.

Public Funding should be removed, and all foreign funding prevented. The school then allowed the choice of repaying the taxpayers for the property (if it was purchase though public funds) or find itself it's own premises elsewhere.

Shut the darn school down NOW! Or at LEAST remove ALL Federal funding from it - make it an entirely private institution, and then, at the slightest hint of promotion of terrorism shut it COMPLETELY down.

Freaking morons in our government! I'm sick and tired of our government throwing our culture and values of Western Civilization into the chamber pot, while supporting and aiding a 7th Century set of barbaric religious rules that are completely at odds with the Bill of Rights.

Traitors - everyone of them - in our government who aid these people. Disgusting.

Tomorrow is 9-11. Tell me again why we have these Muslims inside our country? Tell me again why we gave them amnesty, freedom, opportunity.

Oh, the IUB MSU is throwing a big party in honor of 9/11 on my tuition and tax dollars. Explain that one.

ACLJ sent me a mailer yesterday saying that USC is discriminating against kids from CHRISTIAN SCHOOLS. In theory, it's not a bad precedent to be set, in that it would preclude the admission 100% of students from Muslims countries, none of whom have ever cracked a science text, be it hard or soft, or studied history, government, or anything but language, math, and the Koran Kampf. But do you think that USC will actually stop admitting 3rd-world Muslims who lack a legitimate 1st-grade education? On the other hand, students from Muslim countries who do go to Christian schools are likely to be the only ones who ever receive anything approximating a legitimate education. It's not a coincidence that Copts do better in life once they reach the free world, or that Nonie Darwish is better than Islam and that she attended a Christian school in Egypt and then lived in Israel.

I went to a Jesuit preparatory school and I graduated with a far better education than did my sister, who went to public school. We took 4 semesters of religion class, in addition to our other classes, and they never shoved Christianity down our throats or taught us creationism or anything. We studied world religions, morality, service, and then we had our choice of courses and I took a class on the Old Testament. I found my 'religious' education to be quite beneficial and honestly, my classmates and I were far more competitive when we got to college. I got into every school I applied to and was appalled when I got to college how little other students knew about ancient history from having never cracked a Bible or studied world religions. Furthermore, placing a little emphasis the Judeo-Christian work ethic is not a bad idea when teaching teenagers, who are going to have to compete with Japanese, South Korean, and Indian kids who have been instilled with a similar work ethic.

But religious education has absolutely no place in public school, and neiher does Arabic. Nothing of any value is ever published in Arabic, and it's not a language of commerce, business, technology, education, art, or anything. Ecce Libano has a bunch of posts about the stultifying effects of Arabic on education and on thought and expression more generally. More books are translated into Spanish every year than have been tranlated into Arabic in the last 1000. That is not a coincidence. Arabic throws a wrench into basic linguistic theories like the notion that nothing that one language can express can't be expressed in another language. Plus it's phonologically violent and lexically disgusting. If any language deserves to die or even be systematically eradicated through language planning it's Arabic. I say this as a linguist.

This is why I think that the USC hypocrites banning part of the Hadith sets a good precedent because it rules Islamic teachings unacceptable in public education. Once people learn about everything else in Islam, all of which is unacceptable, taxpayers won't fund it. Especially not at schools like this. At real public schools they teach the whitewashed fake Islam. Islamic schools teach the real-deal, disgusting Islam and that will be their undoing, just as the Koran and the Hadith will be Islam's undoing.

The ACLU only hates white Christians. Murderous, genital mutilating Muslims bent on inflicting religious law are fine in their book. That is of course until Muslims get enough power and the ACLU scumbags end up as fish food.

The thing Muslims have found out our legal profession is nothing but a bunch of whores and psychopaths who would work for Hitler or Bin Laden if they paid the bills.

And the rest of the Justice System is just a mindless machine that obeys the orders of lawyers at the top.

Because of that, our secular Ivy League trained lawyers will be the Muslim jihadists of the 21st century imposing the Muslim way of life on us all. And if you resist their decrees - they will sick our own police and justice system to either kill or imprison you. All the while lawyers are partying up and living in mansions bought with Saudi money.

In the end, the legal profession will be the source of our downfall as a country. The only solace we can take is that they'll be the first to be slaughtered once their task is complete and their evil profession eradicated for good.

It's always the same old story. Those who despise us and would see us dead use the tolerance and freedoms of America to kill us. Either outright with violence...or rotting us from the inside out over time. One must believe the evidence of ones eyes.

No stealth Jihad my ass. Look at the UK and try to deny it. Prollem with stickin' yer head in the sand is, those who care to, can still cut yer throat.

I just saw some really...I'm going to be extraordinarily kind and say...stupid stuff at Huffpo... Difficult to find words to describe the level of ignorance and venom present there
Those people are seriously deluded. They see 9/11 as the ONLY attack that has ever occurred against the US and call it a "fluke" repeatedly. How pathetic. I left rather than attempt to enlighten the self-deluded.

They insist that Christian radicals here in the US are far more dangerous than any terrorist out there...and that the next attack will be made from within but will be made to appear to be of Islamic terrorist origin.

Holy crap. The event, whatever the next one may be, has not occurred, yet they have it all sealed up. They can't lose. Some clearly anti-Semitic overtones as well. References to washing ones hands if David Horowitz had anything to do with it. Other ignorant comments.
These are the kinds of twits that are allowing Islamic schools at taxpayers expense.

Keep talkin'.
Islam is a lie and truth is killing it.

"...the Minnesota chapter of the Muslim American Society, which the Chicago Tribune has described as the American branch of the Muslim Brotherhood -- "the world's most influential Islamic fundamentalist group."

So what does the Chicago Tribune understand about Islam that our elected officials do not?

If Islam really were a religion of peace; all wonder and light; all love and friendship, we would welcome Muslim fundamentalists--those
true believers--into our Western, democratic nations.

But it's what Islam really teaches that causes our concerns about Muslim fundamentalists. It's that belief system's supremacism that causes our concern.

The Tribune apparently understands the threat that Muslim fundamentalists pose to our way of life.

And George Bush can never 'get it' until he learns what Islam really teaches.

Centuries passed and schools stopped teaching accurate, authentic history, replacing it with the politically correct, revisionist version so nobody would be offended or feel bad EXCEPT white, genocidal Christians, the most evil force ever unleashed on the "minorities" of the world. The fact that whites are the only real minority, comprising less than 10% of the global population, is never mentioned in schools or by the news media because it would not correlate with the "evil white oppressors" mantra. Most people are unaware of islamic history and have no clue what islam teaches its rabid followers. Furthermore, they wouldn't believe you if you tried to tell them. To make matters worse, they aren't curious enough to do the research and reading to learn about this malevolent scourge for themselves.

During Medieval times, life was hard and when times are difficult, people are more reactionary and defensive. The West is fat and complacent; ennui is prevalent and pervasive since the decline of Christianity in Europe, and people just don't want to be bothered with conflict or contention until it touches them personally, especially when those sacred "minorities" are involved. Some people seem to have reached a stage that actually advocates suicide by surrender and if surrender means being killed by your enemies, so be it. In other words, nothing, not even your own life, is worth fighting for. When the survival instinct is gone, what's left worth saving?

Hmmm...seems simple to me when TAX payer money is being used. ALL religions are exempt, except in HISTORY class where ALL religions are studied & with a focus on the "dark" side of each.

But it must be understood that ISLAM is not just a religion but a total political doctrine & does not get the religious freedoms that the US Constitution protects.

We need to education the people to it's true end game goal...TOTAL submission of the planet. Back to the 7th Century mentality.

What are we doing in the WEST to undermine Islam in Islamic countries? Are we pressuring Saudi Arabia to allow the same number of mosques built in Western societies to be built there? The ratio NEEDS to be the same! If not...the building MUST STOP!

Fuck political correctness if we are to survive in the next 50 years....think of the problems our children with be having to deal with...THEY ARE OUR REPLACEMENTS. Let's give them the tools to compete & WIN!

Look at the problems in the UK by BENDING OVER BACKWARDS to Islamic demands....Draw the LINE & defend it. Start pushing back in all parts of the world.

This school needs to be closed down, to send a strong message to the Muslims who have no regards for our laws.

The ONLY good thing that could possibly come from this is that schools would be allowed (forced?) to give Jews & Christians prayer time as well.

Muslims need to ask themselves, "Why is Allah in Hell torturing 'disbelievers' with boiling water and open fires?" Simple answer, really...because that's where he has lived since he was cast out of Heaven by Yahweh.

And George Bush can never 'get it' until he learns what Islam really teaches.

Complexities are multiplicities of simplicity's...

Had we not opened the door, and not given in to every demand, these issues would not exist.

Dar al-harb itself is causing these complications, Islam just exploits them.

It's time to shut the door, and take some of the complication out of it.

Stop muslim immigration, stop mosque building. No more Islamic schools. Erode whats left...Things are getting to complicated.

Above all learn to say NO...NO...NO!!!

'Just say no', said Nancy Reagan, who also said...'I'm just here for the drugs'...She was right on both counts...

Muslim TIZA has been revealed for the Americans to poke at. Muslim TIZA has no shame and will continue to reveal inner stuff and violated principles. It is about time to shutdown the Muslim TIZA which knows no shame. Enough is enough. I, for one, would not trust the Muslim TIZA even if they put a camera or surveillance systems inside it.

Screw the Muslim TIZA and we refuse to pay for it! It should be shutdown for good.

Where does the obsructionist ACLU stand on this? I'll bet they are with the Muslims on this one. Our country is down the drain unless we elect some people that don't care about the politically correct, get reelected B.S. that prevails and try to do for our nation and it's people.
