"[The] Saturday blast, which reverberated throughout Islamabad, was caused by more than a ton of explosives. ... The blast left a crater some 30 feet deep in front of the main building."
"Explosion at Pakistan Marriott hotel kills 40," by Asif Shahzad for the Associated Press, September 20:
ISLAMABAD, Pakistan - Police say at least 40 people have died in a massive explosion that destroyed the luxury Marriott Hotel in Pakistan's capital.
Senior police official Asghar Raza Gardaizi said he fears there are dozens more dead inside.
He said that the Saturday blast, which reverberated throughout Islamabad, was caused by more than a ton of explosives.
The blast left a crater some 30 feet deep in front of the main building.
Flames poured from the windows of the hotel and rescuers ferried a stream of bloodied bodies from the gutted building. [...]
The Marriott is a favorite place for foreigners to stay and socialize in Islamabad, despite repeated militant attacks. A security guard at the scene, Mohammad Nasir, and several witnesses said a large truck had driven toward the gate before exploding.
The blast left a vast crater, some 30 feet deep in front of the main building, where flames poured from the windows and rescuers ferried a stream of bloodied bodies from the gutted building.
Mohammad Sultan, a hotel employee, said he was in the lobby when something exploded, he fell down and everything temporarily went dark.
"I don't understand what it was, but it was like the world is finished," he said.
An Associated Press reporter counted at least nine bodies scattered at the scene. Scores of people, including foreigners, were running out — some of them stained with blood. At a hospital where many of the casualties were taken, official Raja Ejaz said at least two people had died and 25 were wounded.
Ambulances rushed to the area, where a fire burned, smoke hovered and the carcasses of vehicles were thrown about. Windows in buildings hundreds of yards away were shattered.
There was no immediate claim of responsibility for the blast. [...]
In January 2007, a security guard blocked a suicide bomber who triggered a blast just outside the Marriott, killing the guard and wounding seven other people.

I have a hard time feeling sorry for Pakistan, as many in the "tribal" areas and inside the government are sympathetic to terrorists.Pakistani Muslims are in bed with AQ and the Taliban and there is more violence and blood shed in Pakistan as a result. The Bible says you "reap what you sow". Someone else said "you lie down with dogs you wake up with flees".You see the truth of that right there in Pakistan.

"The Marriott is a favorite place for foreigners to stay and socialize in Islamabad, despite repeated militant attacks"
Why any foreigner, or anyone for that matter, would want to travel to Pakistan to "socialize" is just beyond me; especially knowing that they risk a possible attack. Only someone with a death wish would consider this location a "favorite place" to stay, and now 40 or more people got their wish. I'm not saying that they had it coming, not at all, but I'm stunned that this location was frequented by foreigners "despite repeated militant attacks". Guess nothing should stun me any more.
Islamabad - the name alone was a tip off. Islam truly IS bad! And evil.

Ramadan is over. What is that verse in the Koran once the fast is over begin the slaughter of unbelievers so that the blood thirsty Allah can be appeased and that the Jihadis can screw the prepubescent 72 girls or boys in the porn heaven of Islam. Well I bet they killed some of their own the Mohammedans that is okay.

"Why any foreigner, or anyone for that matter, would want to travel to Pakistan to "socialize" is just beyond me; especially knowing that they risk a possible attack."
It wasn't 'any foreigner'. It was senior CIA officials.
"Well placed sources said that Marriott Hotel is usual hotel choice of the US officials and it seems that militants tipped off that certain high level US intelligence officers were currently staying at the hotel.
While no confirmation was available but Pakistan sources said it was clear that the explosion was aimed at specific targets based on a tip off."
The real question is why would any 'senior CIA official' trust any pakistani muslim with information about his travels?

I just heard a completely clueless announcer on Fox News ask if there was any claim of responsibility for the bombing. Whether the group is Al Qaeda, Jemaah Islamiya, Hezbollah, Hamas, or any of a dozen other existing groups, or any groups as yet formed, is that even remotely a relevent question anymore? The issue is not the groups, whatever their name, but the misogynistic, totalitarian ideology which spawns these groups. 7 years after 9/11, one would think that the penny would drop for these news organizations. Guess not.

Infidel33 -
The actual Associated Press headline states the following:
"The five-story Marriott had been a favorite place for foreigners as well as Pakistani politicians and business people to stay and socialize in Islamabad despite repeated militant attacks."
This particular paragraph from the headline mentions "foreigners", "Pakistani politicans" and "business people", as among those who visit this hotel, so I am not quite sure why you felt the need to correct me by pointing out that the "senior CIA officials" were at the hotel. I am not questioning their presence, nor am I trying to minimize the fact that they were there the day of the bombing; I was simply focusing on this particular paragraph and commenting on the regulars who frequent this hotel, as described by AP.

I agree with your comment. My point is that there apparently were, by other accounts, senior members of the U.S. "intelligence community" staying there, who may have become victims of their own abysmal understanding of islam and the concept of 'dar al-harb' Such is the state of our "intelligence community".

Apparently bombing infidels is a popular activity.

Any "allied" government in the absurdly named "war on terror" who cannot even control its own capital certainly cannot be trusted to control the "tribal" areas nor especially can they be trusted to maintain command and control over a nuclear arsenal. It is inevitable in my view that the world's great powers will need to wrest the nuclear weapons from the hands of the Pakistani government by force and then distribute those weapons to the participating world powers for destruction of the warheads. If no other nuclear power is willing to participate then so be it. The United States will do it alone. The American median voter will make it happen.

nabi ZK - Here you go:
"A manual of Islamic law certified by Al-Azhar as a reliable guide to Sunni orthodoxy says that "retaliation is obligatory against anyone who kills a human being purely intentionally and without right."
*However, "not subject to retaliation" is "a father or mother (or their fathers or mothers) for killing their offspring, or offspring's offspring." ('Umdat al-Salik o1.1-2).*
In other words, someone who kills his child incurs no legal penalty under Islamic law. Why does this stipulation appear in a manual of Islamic law if this has nothing to do with Islam?
nabi - may I be skeptical and question whether your "moderate Mohametan" has truly never heard of this before?

These acts of violence against innocents violate the fundamental tenets of the Islamic faith. And it's important for my fellow Americans to understand that.
Let me quote from the Koran, itself: In the long run, evil in the extreme will be the end of those who do evil. For that they rejected the signs of Allah and held them up to ridicule.
The face of terror is not the true faith of Islam. That's not what Islam is all about. Islam is peace. These terrorists don't represent peace. They represent evil and war.
I also want to speak tonight directly to Muslims throughout the world. We respect your faith. It's practiced freely by many millions of Americans, and by millions more in countries that America counts as friends. Its teachings are good and peaceful, and those who commit evil in the name of Allah blaspheme the name of Allah.

"I also want to speak tonight directly to Muslims throughout the world." My, my. Is this Winston Churchill addressing the English people in the midst of the Blitz? Is it FDR telling Americans they have nothing to fear but fear itself?
What presumption.
And then there is the next sentence, that presumes to speak for all of us: "We respect your faith."
No, "we" don't all "respect" the faith of Islam. Some of it find it appalling, and the more we find out about its politics and geopolitics, its suppression of free expression and free inquiry, and all the ways in which it threatens us, and stunts the mental growth of Muslims themselves, the more appalling we find it.
Speak for yourself, but speak it elsewhere, on your own little blog.

And don't bother with the tired refrain, "He's kept the home front safe for 7 years." The "[Classic] Manual of Islamic [Sacred] Law" mentioned by Darcy is available from Amazon, with the title "The Reliance of the Traveller". Every Jihad-watcher should have a copy of this as reference on the desktop! Hop over to Amazon to get your copy now...
I went to the Darcy's reference [o1.2 (4)] and find that I'd already highlithed it! It adds other categories that are "*not* subject to retaliation": ... (2) "a Muslim for killing a non-Muslim" and (3) "a Jewish or Christian subject of the Islamic state for killing an apostate from Islam" -- so, go Jews and Christians! Who said you weren't treated equally in Islamic states??! You're just as free as Muslims to kill apostates "with no retaliation"!
TO "Wild Jew": I agree with the posts countering your absurd views. Have you read nothing of the theology of this "religion"? Try not just the Koran (full of vitriolic sectarian, anti-Semitism and supremacist teaching), but also said "Reliance of the Traveller", the "Sacred Manual of Islamic Sacred Law", approved by the most senior authorities in Islam and try reading about the treatment of homosexuals, of the kuffar, of Jews, of women (eg, female genital mutilation) and of apostates… and then try again to utter the words "religion of peace"....
at September 20, 2008 9:34 PM
My guess is that "Wild Jew" was being ironic, above, in quoting and repeating without comment (and not always with quotes) the idiocy which so many of us find appalling.
Unfortunately for all, that idiocy ("These acts of violence ...") was straight from President George W. Bush, spoken on September 17, 2001. It is currently available at whitehouse.gov as a press release.

darcy,
Wild Jew was quoting the words of none other than George W. Bush. Most, if not all, of the quotes he used came directly from our esteemed leader's speech before a joint session of Congress, just NINE DAYS after the WTC was attacked.
In fact, this is the seventh anniversary of that speech. It was delivered on September 20, 2001.
"The terrorists practice a fringe form of Islamic extremism that has been rejected by Muslim scholars and the vast majority of Muslim clerics -- a fringe movement that perverts the peaceful teachings of Islam."
"I also want to speak tonight directly to Muslims throughout the world. We respect your faith. It's practiced freely by many millions of Americans, and by millions more in countries that America counts as friends. Its teachings are good and peaceful, and those who commit evil in the name of Allah blaspheme the name of Allah. (Applause.) The terrorists are traitors to their own faith, trying, in effect, to hijack Islam itself. The enemy of America is not our many Muslim friends; it is not our many Arab friends. Our enemy is a radical network of terrorists, and every government that supports them."
The full speech is on the web. It was delivered seven years ago, TODAY.

google 'Barbara Plett' and Hugh Fitzgerald and be surprised about what comes up. Barbara Plett was the one who cried her eyelashes off over the death of the AIDS-ridden Araf*kc, and that's before breakfast.

First, if we look at the picture of the crater formed after the attack we will see that is was caused by a missile.
Second, only several weeks ago the USA was being criticized by the Pakistan military for violating Pakistani sovereignty and anti US sentiment was high amongst most "moderate" Pakistanis. So ineffect the US had to make everyone detest the "Islamist" more than they detested the US, and view USA action on their land as not ideal but necessary to fight the bigger wrong. Also the casualties of US terrorism had to be juxtaposed with something greater so that it could be viewed as unfortunate collateral damage
What did the US do? same thing they did when Sunni and Shia united to fight their Nazi occupation in Iraq, set off a bomb on one side and make it look like the other side did it, and boom they turn on each other. As far fetched as this may seem, this concept has been used throughout history.
The USA has proven itself to be the epitome of evil as described in the Quran, Bible and general human philosophy, as such the US has often resorted to deceptive and heinous means to reach their ends. The lies and manipulation of the US is apparent to most, their vile and vicious terrorism can be seen by those that look.

What? Those were Bush’s words, not yours? Words so awful that I could not attribute them even to him? And thus I missed the joke entirely, on a thread where I had offered a sinister one of my own? You’ve shown me up, and made me a laughingstock in the public square of my own mind. For Hugh Fitzgerald:
Take a look at this hit-piece by Owen Bennett-Jones from Al Bebeeceera.
Back in the days of the cold war, he would have peddled the 'better red than dead' rubbish that so many believed in then. Now, in the return-to-the future-days of the Islam-intern, he hawks the 'one man's terrorist is another man's freedom fighter' crapola.
And of course: its all our fault, like here:
US raids on Taleban and al-Qaeda targets in Pakistani territory have caused outrage in Pakistan. And that has added to the loathing that some people there have long felt for the way that the US conducts itself on the world stage, as Owen Bennett-Jones discovers.

You're right. I wanted to see how many would recognize these terrible comments, from none other than the president of the United States. In time of war!
This one man has done incredible damage to his own country in my view; in large part because he has mislead and continues to mislead the American people about our enemy in time of war. Some might call this treason.
He gives aid in comfort to our enemies. He has been working feverishly to establish a new Muslim terror state in the Holy Land! There is already a new Muslim terrorist entity in Gaza and it could be argued Lebanon is now a terrorist state, in large part because of bad White House policy.
Mr. Bush has done more damage to America than perhaps any previous U.S. president. Historians will acknowledge it in time.

In my mind, his worst crime is heaping praise and accolades and encomiums on the people whose ideology mass-murdered over 3,000 of our citizens on September 11, 2001. And calling Islam the "rop."
Look, is there a "method to his madness" a la Hamlet? As well as "The plays the thing wherein I'll catch the conscience of the King?"

Spot on,
We agree that muslim groups or nations should never be able to manufacture or acquire WMD.
The difficulty comes in enforcing it. Technology has its limitations. Its ability to "detect" WMD simply isn't there yet. Thus, there is no substitute for direct intervention in some cases.
In the case of Iraq, when Saddam banned inspections and refused to comply with all of the UN resolutions directing him to account for and destroy WMD in the presence of UN inspectors, we were completely justified to topple his regime in my opinion. Saddam's bluff backfired on him.
But helping the Iraqis build a new government is an entirely different matter. That's not our obligation in my view.

Actually I think 9/11 was chickens coming home to roost, and America getting a taste of what it had been doing throughout the last 40 years, be it the genocide, rape and animalistic crimes committed against the Vietnamese, the corruption to subjugate South and Central America through despot dictators and militia's or when needs be sending the low IQ scum that you call soldiers to rape and slaughter latins or th crimes committed in Africa, or the Middle East sanctions against Iraq killing 500000 children ("a price worth paying", then so was the 3000 who died on 9/11). Or subjugating the middle east to corrupt regimes etc, basically you get my drift, what happened on 9/11 was nothing that America the fascist state has itself done prior and after the day that the chickens came home to roost.

Posted by: duh_swami
I agree. Bush is a Muslim. It wouldn't be the first time he changed his "religious" stripes.
Didn't he enter office as an Episcopalian, only to switch to a different Protestant religion?
I can't remember what it was, just off the top of my head, but I remember the switch. It was to some religion that made him seem to be more of a "man of the people". Strictly an image thing, I guess, as he had already won the election. Nothing that would earn him votes.
But, again, yes--Bush is now a Muslim, and an enemy to the US.

"They want to kill and control the world subjugating us to their ways"
Who has invaded the most countries since 1950?
Who has military bases throughout the world, and whose warships sail in oceans 10000s of miles away from its borders?
Who has killed the most civilians and dropped the most bombs?
Who through threat of economic, and possibly military, reprisals ensures that all nations use the dollar as their reserve currency?
Who interferes in the politics of others, eg through regime change or political assassinations or sponsored coup
The best way to make people believe a lie is to keep saying it, and boy does that pig Bush and ugly Rice keep saying the same stuff as do all US politicians.
Also, why has the blessed Sheikh Osma Bin Ladens accusations against the USA never been refuted? Why are they ignored and instead lies are attributed to his motives?
If you was wrongly accused by an angry neighbour of stealing his sheep exploiting his land and killing his children, you would accusation by saying for example I was 200 miles away on the day his sheep got stolen. If you was guilty you would sidestep his accusation and instead attribute another reason for his hatred to you, eg you would say ahhh he is mad and angry because he hates my freedom. You would say this despite the fact that your neighbor has given perfectly rational motives. And if you speak louder or say it enough times, peoples perception of you neigbour will be based on what you say not what he says.

Jowen,
You don't have a clue.
You should take the time to speak with the Vietnamese people that have lived under communist rule. Talk with them. Those that - to this day - have their parents and siblings executed for speaking out or simply trying to escape.
You are branding the entire USA due to the actions of a few rogue soldiers and ignoring the contributions which others made. Many of those rogue soldiers were later brought to justice by our own military.
Talk with the Vietnamese that lived there Jowen. You will then discover that they were indeed grateful that we tried to help defeat the communists. Their lives worsened greatly after we left - largely due to pressure from the political left in the USA for us to withdraw and leave the Vietnamese people defenseless. Many spent years upon years in communist "re-eduction" camps.
To this day people are shot and executed for simply trying to escape Vietnam. But people like Jowen direct fault to the USA for trying to help these people and defeat communism. You really have no clue Jowen.
Incidentally, the rapes that you refer to in Africa were at the hands of "UN Peacekeeper" forces. The vast majority of deaths in Iraq are caused by jihadists. Get a clue!

JoJO asks:
"Who has invaded the most countries since 1950?'
What is considered an "Invasion"?
Muslims have been attacking in many locations...maybe not with massive armies but attacking...They continue to attack inside their own countries as well...The countries suffering Muslim attacks continue to swell...The attacks are not only militaristic in nature, but also by attacks of the silent JIHAD type...the attacks from within...demands for special priviledges for Muslims on the job, in the airport, in the neighborhood, in the government, in the schools.....at the same time Muslims are demanding great restrictions in freedom of speech, not wanting the truth about Islam to get out...demanding great restrictions on law enforcement agencies in their abilites to gather information on those whose main goals are to destroy the countries who are not Muslim...Muslims are the greatest invaders since 1950...
"Yep, it's all about Iraq and...
India and the Sudan and Algeria and Afghanistan and New York and Pakistan and Israel and Russia and Chechnya and the Philippines and Indonesia and Nigeria and England and Thailand and Spain and Egypt and Bangladesh and Saudi Arabia and Ingushetia and Dagestan and Turkey and Morocco and Yemen and Lebanon and France and Uzbekistan and Gaza and Tunisia and Kosovo and Bosnia and Mauritania and Kenya and Eritrea and Syria and Somalia and California and Kuwait and Virginia and Ethiopia and Iran and Jordan and United Arab Emirates and Louisiana and Texas and Tanzania and Germany and Australia and Pennsylvania and Belgium and Denmark and East Timor and Qatar and Maryland and Tajikistan and the Netherlands and Scotland and Chad and Canada and China and Nepal and the Maldives and Argentina and Angola and...
...and pretty much wherever Muslims
believe their religion tells them to:
"Fight those who do not believe in Allah, ... nor follow
the religion of truth... until they pay the tax in acknowledg-ment of superiority and they are in a state of subjection."
Qur'an, Sura 9:29"
at September 21, 2008 1:19 PM
I forgot to mention the Massive influx of Muslim peoples through the stupid immigration policies of most of the western countries...countries just a few years ago had maybe 1500 Muslims now have Millions...want to talk about invading armies...yep, it is plain to see who the real invaders are...and it is not America..or UK,...or France...or Denmark...Or Germany...Or Italy.....
