A reminder that "al-Qaeda groups" will go to any lengths, no matter how despicable, to seize power: "RP Marines rescue 2 children seized by Muslim militants," from GMA News, September 21:
MANILA, Philippines - A Philippine military official says marines safely rescued after a brief gunbattle two children who were kidnapped last week by Muslim militants linked to the al-Qaida-linked Abu Sayyaf group in the southern.Marines captured two alleged kidnappers during Sunday's pre-dawn rescue of the two boys in a remote village in mountainous Patikul township on southern Jolo island. Navy spokesman Lt. Col. Edgard Arevalo says the alleged kidnap leader, Hajal Hatae, a former Abu Sayyaf member, managed to escape and is being hunted by marines.
The Abu Sayyaf, believed to have more than 300 gunmen, has been battered by U.S.-backed Philippine military offensives in Jolo and nearby islands and has resorted to kidnappings for ransom and extortion to survive. - AP

Marines captured two alleged kidnappersvia
U.S.-backed Philippine military offensives
Captured? Too bad. It would have been far more satisfying to read about 2 dead jihadi kidnappers.
I pray the Philippine military is not constrained like our Marines were by politicians seeking civil justice when dealing with these kidnapping jihadis.
Thank God the children were rescued.

Is there anyone too dispicable for the AP to sympathize with? Because that's what their doing by saying the Abu Sayyaf "has resorted to kidnappings for ransom and extortion to survive."
Couldn't they, say, get jobs as contributing members of society? Or even baristas?

Resorted to Kiddnapping and ransoms?
I thought their was a whole collections of verses in the Mohammedan scriptures about how they are to use this tactic. Heck this tactic is what cause the US to have the Barbary Wars, and France to conquer Algeria in the first place.

Do Islam and lack of moral fiber compliment each other?

Abu Sayyaf "has resorted to kidnappings for ransom and extortion to survive."
Kind of like the AIDS virus in its many mutations. It finds new ways to resist or hide from the drugs dispatched to kill it and it finds new ways to attack the host. Sometimes it just sits in the body for years, quietly reproducing and then WHAM! It strikes the body that fed it for lo those many years.

This relates but still could be a bit OT so I warn.
The media never reports that we are in a GLOBAL war on terror. Antiwar creeps constantly cry that the GWOT is not real. At the same time antiwar creeps whine that they want our troops home from Iraq now.
This brings up the point, The antiwar goons cannot even be honest about the fact that the military is in place all over the world fighting the war on terror. They can only mention Iraq & Afghanistan. Never do the antiwar goons or their media lackeys admit we are even fighting in places like the Philippines or Djbouti. Is the antiwar machine just ignorant and uninformed and think we are only in OIF & OEF? Or are they malicious in that they know we are all over the world but do not want to discuss it? As a OIF & OEF disabled combat veteran who has tasted the vile wrath of the antiwar scum I would really like to know the answer to this.

The government of the Philippines is facing nothing less than an ongoing and violent Muslim Jihadi challenge to its authority and to the freedom, safety and way of life of all non-Muslim Filipinos.
As it responds to this challenge, it might do well to heed some very sound advice from wise non-Muslims of the past.
I posted this advice on an earlier thread, but will post it again here, in hopes that any non-Muslim Filipino who may chance to read it, may translate it into Tagalog and convey it to their government, military and church leaders, and perhaps even spread it about the Filipino blogosphere and media.
First, an anonymous political commentator in the North China Herald, writing during a time when the Muslims in western and south-western China had risen up in a Jihad rebellion:
“If politeness and ceremony be observed toward Mohammedans, they imagine they are feared and become arrogant; but in showing severity and rudeness, they are impressed with fear and respect, and they are supple and manageable.”
--North China Herald,1867.
Secondly, the great 19th-century American statesman and campaigner against slavery, John Quincy Adams, on Islam, and the response to jihad:
“As the essential principle of his [Mohammed's] faith is the subjugation of others by the sword; it is only by force, that his false doctrines can be dispelled, and his power annihilated."
Thirdly, from Sir Winston S. Churchill, from his 1899 book, 'The River Wars', which chronicled the suppression, by the British Empire, of a Jihad in the Sudan, these words, echoing John Quincy Adams sixty years earlier:
"No terms but fight or death were offered. No reparation or apology could be made. . . The red light of retribution played on the bayonets and the lances, and civilization—elsewhere sympathetic, merciful, tolerant, ready to discuss or to argue, eager to avoid violence, to submit to law, to effect a compromise—here advanced with an expression of inexorable sternness, and rejecting all other courses, offered only the arbitration of the sword."
Go Philippines! Defeat the Jihad!
PS - It might also be an idea to find out how to get Fr Zakaria Botros' brilliant program (google him - he's deprogramming Muslims very successfully) dubbed into the appropriate languages and rebroadcast 24/7 into the Muslim-inhabited areas of the Philippines.

"resorted to kidnappings for ransom and extortion to survive."
May the Almighty thwart their kidnappings, their extortion, and indeed, their survival.
Amen.
