CHICAGO (AP) — A 24-year-old convert to Islam has been sentenced to 35 years in prison for plotting to blow off hand grenades in a crowded shopping mall during the Christmas season....He was arrested in 2006 on charges of scheming to use weapons of mass destruction at the Cherryvale Mall in the northern Illinois city of Rockford.
Federal Judge David Coar said Tuesday he didn't believe Shareef was evil.
Of course not, the poor lamb! After all, it isn't as if he were some greasy Islamophobe!
But he said people could have been severely hurt if federal agents hadn't broken up the plot.
No kidding, really?
Shareef described himself as a devout Muslim who once admired Osama bin Laden but has now realized violence is wrong.
Very reassuring, man!

How sad that this young man made a wrong turn and ended up deciding how he was going to spend most of the rest of his life at the age of 22. The Imams must be laughing their asses off.

Oh girl, I know. Like I don't have enough to do. But every time I think about how stupid these guys are and how they seem to be gaining ground in spite of it, it steels my resolve to oppose and defeat them.
Good news...had an ACT for America meeting last weekend and two more retired military guys joined and shared some good ideas. Nothing like having some guys who've already fought to protect our country involved in undermining the jihad-ers. If we work together we can be just as devious at using our laws behind the scenes to thwart these guys. My goal is to expose CAIR every time they threaten someone with judicial jihad. Just a little something I do in my spare time. ; )

Frankly, I hope that prison life doesn't accommodate his religious proclivities. He needs to learn that religion can be toxic as well as helpful. If there isn't a survival clause in his religion, then he deserves whatever he gets. Commandment number 0 is to do what you must to survive, as long as it doesn't come at the expense of others.
When he learns what an awful thing it was that he tried to do, I hope he has a better, more compassionate, religion to rely upon. The crap he believes belongs in the garbage heap of history.

Yes those evil Evangelists they call me a sinner according to Senator Kennedy's staffer, we should keep an eye on them otherwise we would alienate the Muslims. Yes lets save the sorry Muslims at the expense of the Buddhists, Christians, Hindus, Jews and others and our freedom. Sad. Surely he was combating the “corruption in the land", which typically runs wild in malls all across America just before Christmas. We should surely be more tolerant of his “peaceful” religious duties to engage in Jihadist activities in pursuit of his “peaceful” faith to combat villainy. A few years ago, a sicko like this guy would have plotted to hurt people and been sentenced to a facility for the criminally insane. Now that Islam has made such a splash, every violence-prone nutcase can don the "respectable" mantle of religion and convince themselves that they are fighting for a cause.
The convergence of power and religion has always been the appeal of Islam, and isn't the violence caused by jihad a form of criminal insanity?

Whenever I see judicial comments reflecting muddled thinking like the ones published here (i.e."people could have been severely hurt if federal agents hadn't broken up the plot") I look to see who appointed the Judge. Not surprisingly, Judge Coar is a William Jefferson Clinton apointment. Res ipsa baby!

I seriously doubt this dude was smoking dope. In my experience, getting high never made me want to go out and blow things up. On the contrary, it mellows me out to the point I stay home and write or watch TV while munching away. None of my friends who smoke ever blew anything up either. Marijuana isn't PCP, for goodness sake. It doesn't make one violent.
