Taliban rakes in $100 million a year from drug trafficking

Osama bin Laden himself has been called "one of the world's largest heroin dealers." In my 2002 book Islam Unveiled I discussed how the Taliban's involvement in drug trafficking was consistent with the group's theology. It is in line with the sharp distinction in the Qur'an and Islamic tradition between believers and unbelievers: since the buyers were non-Muslims, they had no problem selling the product.

"Taliban's yearly dope take is put at $100M," by James Gordon Meek for the New York Daily News, October 2 (thanks to Jeffrey Imm):

WASHINGTON - The resurgent Taliban get a yearly injection of $100 million from drug trafficking, the top U.S. Army general in Afghanistan said Wednesday.

"That's a conservative estimate," added Gen. David McKiernan, who also commands NATO troops. [...]

McKiernan questioned the commitment of a number of European allies. "Some come to conduct war, some come to summer camp," he said.

Turning the fight over to fledgling Afghan forces won't happen "anytime soon," he predicted.

Afghanistan's thriving Islamist insurgency has used its eye-popping opium profits to fuel its escalating war against the elected government in Kabul and to oppose U.S. and NATO allies.

The religion of perpetual crime and murder, threats and human rights abuse. What more can be said. The Mohammedans and their facade showing outwardly fake smiles while inwardly boiling with rage, living in infidel lands and seeing all the haram drives them into a frenzy of blood lust and rage. Seeing infidels during ramadan and eid not responding to them with whatever salutation has them go on a fit as well. At the same time they view infidels with arrogance and contempt.

Wow! What a screwed up religion and unfortunately non Muslims have to bear this crap.

-- from the article above

It is hard to criticize someone who can utter a line such as "some come to conduct a war, some come to summer camp" but criticize one must, for the inability of General McKiernan, like the inability of other celebrated generals, to see a larger picture, to see that the goals set by the American government, in Afghanistan as in Iraq, make no sense, will not, evey if they were possible of achievement, after great expenditures (I usually identify it as "squandering") of men, money, materiel, and attention, do a thing to weaken the main weapons of Jihad -- the Money Weapon, campaigns of Da'wa, and demographic conquest, most immediately threatening in the countries of Western Europe.

Furthermore, part of the inevitable "comeback of the Taliban" is due to the observable corruptuion in Karzai's regime. And that corruption is partly a function of the money being poured into Afghanistan by the Americans and other Infidels. That money, or some of it, as it appears in Muslim lands such as Afghanistan, becomes a source of funds for the rulers, their families, their courtiers. If that money were not there to begin with, lavished on the country by those dim-witted Infidels, there would be less for the corrupt or the corruptible to be corrupt about, and that would calm the waters. The Americans are creating, in their foolish and misguided generosity and (now, after the experience in Iraq, much subdued and chastened) messianism, the very conditions, through that aid that should be stopped, that help the Taliban to gain new converts.

But the Taliban, or some other Muslim group, will always be present in Afghanistan or other Muslim lands, and the very idea that outside Infidels can "work with the locals" -- those locals being Muslims -- on some basis other than the most temporary and fleeting of perceived overlapping of interests (as when the Sunni tribes were happy to accept American money and weaponry, though that does not make them "friends" of the Infidels, on whom they could turn in a New York minute), demonstrates, yet again, a failure to have thought through the tenets, the attitudes, the atmospherics of Islam, and its extraordinary hold on the minds of nearly a billion most prmitive Believers.

To repeat what has been said hundreds of times before at this site:

Neither Iraq nor Afghanistan is the "central front" in the "war on terror."

The "war on terror" is itself a misleading way of characterizing what is essentialy an attempt, however clumsy in its initial stages, to check the forces of Jihad, that is the forces of Islam -- states, groups, groupuscules, individuals -- to remove all obstacles to the spread, and then the dominance, of Islam, all over the globe. The "war" by non-Muslims is really a war of self-defense, imposed -- permanently -- on the entire non-Muslim world by the texts and tenets of Islam.

Resources must be husbanded, not squandered. The two trillion dollars spent in Iraq, on a mission of messianic sentimentalism, is doomed to fail, or looked at another way, is dommed to victory, for whenever the Americans leave, the Shi'a will assert themselves even more forcefully against the Sunnis, and the Sunnis will continue to refuse to acquiesce in the new, Shi'a-dominated order, and the Kurds will not accept anything less than complete autonomy, and many are planning on achieving a fully independent Kurdistan.

The Americans should recognize that the sectarian and ethnic fissures in Iraq are not to be deplored but welcomed, and exploited.

But this the Bush Administration, its loyalists (and that includes many who still can't admit how wrong they have been, for their amour-propre, and their standing, require that they maintain that they were always right, and it is the "conditions that have changed" -- when the whole thing should have been clear from the start), and others, will not admit to this.

Can a general or two do so?

General Petraeus now says that each situation is "different" and no general rules can apply in the cases of Iraq and Afghanistan. Does that mean that he now sees how silly were those Leavenworthian manuals about counter-insurgency that offered such useless and commical remarks as "on average, insurgencies last ten years" and that, at long last, he is prepared to see this "war" as more than merely what takes place on this or that battlefield, is prepared to see that the Jihad in Western Europe neeeds American attention, that Iraq's fissures will remain, and after the Americans leave, inevitably grow wider (and that this widening, the very thing that General Petraeus worked to avoid, he may now recognize as a good thing, for it will serve to divide and demoralize the Camp of Islam.

Would that General Petraeus could finally see that the war in Afghanistan, again, merely squanders American (and NATO) resources, that Infidel aid merely increases the possibillites for corruption which in turn inevitably arouses rage that is channeled into support for the Taliban (whose crimes can be so quickly forgotten, for they appeal to the mental substratum that has been molded by, suffused with, the attitudes of Islam), and began to lobby not for more troops, but against them, and lobby for a policy of re-dimensioning (i.e., cutting down to size) the significance of Afghanistan, and if he could persuade others not to blanch at, but rather to welcome, the internal conflicts that divide Afghanis, as a way of keeping, from afar, the place permanently under control,, patrolled by drones and spy-planes and possibly by agents on the ground, and with intermittent weapons supplies or inteligence given now to this tribe, and now to that, but without any further large-scale presence and certainly with an end to aid, that merely encourages corruption.

Afghanistan is not a "central front" in anything, save in the minds of those who cannot, who will not, see the hastily-named "war on terror" as what it is -- the war of self-defense against the Jihad, and the front is everywhere, in southern Thailand as in southern Sudan or southern Nigeria, and in Amsterdam, Paris, London, where deployment of the Money Weapon, campaigns of Da'wa, and demograpic conquest, threaten the historic heart of the West, without which the United States can only with difficulty continue to exist.

Send in secret agents disguised as Sicilian thugs to buy the poppy crops from the Afghanis, truck away the raw opium to a remote area, and burn it.

Farmers happy; herion eliminated; al Qaeda impoverished.

Much cheaper than military-based eradication programs that alienate and radicalize the natives.

The cheapest, quickest and outright best way to cut off the heads of the hydra (muslim mafias around the world) is to immediately legalize all drugs and divert the flow of cash spent on drugs into the legal economy.

RoundUp, RoundUp, RoundUp. EPA approved. Twenty-Four hour BDA cycle. Avoid spraying Karzi's fields. At least for now. Give them Wheat Seed and Grass Seed. This way the Goats get to eat.

Spraying the fields with herbicides to destroy the poppies is the only thing that can be done. They'll never plant wheat seeds in those fields. Jihad and imposing their wicked way of life upon us is the only thing on their minds.

And if drugs are legalised in the West, how on earth can we be expected to do anything to obstruct the Jihad with half our population glassy eyed?
