As regards the topic of the material posted for discussion, for the benefit of new non-Muslim readers now and in the future, I should point out that a good twenty years before Phyllis Chesler wrote 'The New Antisemitism', Jacques Ellul - formidable French sociologist and professor at Bordeaux University, Righteous Gentile, lay theologian and general maverick and gadfly - had already seen all of this sh*t coming down the pike, and warned about it.

In 1986, just after the first Lebanon War between the PLO jihadists and Israel, he published a book called 'Un Chretien pour Israel' ('One christian supports Israel'). Unluckily, it has never been translated into English.

In that book he ruthlessly deconstructs all of the Arab/Muslim Big Lies about Israel, and skewers modern western antisemitism of all kinds into the bargain, along with demolishing the sentimental myth of the Plight of the Pooor Palestinians [TM].

One chapter is entitled 'Antisemitism and antizionism', and focuses mostly on the antisemitism of the Christians and the left-wing, which involved hating and calumniating the Jewish state whilst claiming to love Jews.

Here is the important section of the first two paragraphs of that chapter I will give the French first, then my own (somewhat rough and literal) English translation [consider my version a 'crib' for those with high school French).

'J’aborde ici une question qui est singuliere: une nouvelle forme et occasion de l’antisemitisme. Il y a eu l’antisemitisme religieux, puis l’anti-semitisme politique, et l’antisemitisme demonique (de l’Etat hitlerien).

Let's look at Ellul's word: folie, madness, frenzy, folly. What better word for the sheer demented craziness that is being expressed on the streets of the USA and Europe?

There is another passage in the same chapter that also bears repeating, and reflecting on.

"c’est envers les Juifs pieux de Meah Schearim,

" c’est envers l’Israel arme

"qu’il faut savoir si oui ou non nous acceptons le Juif et tendons vers lui la main de paix.

I should have noted that the Ellul material I have cited pertains primarily to the mindset of the 'christian' and leftist janissaries of the current Jihad against the Jews; those who are present at those demonstrations, or who view them, and hear and see the ecstatic cries of hatred, and have so lost their moral sense - because they are convinced that the Jews of Israel represent absolute evil - that they remain, passively acquiescing or even actively joining in the shrieks of hate, rather than getting up and walking out.

Elsewhere in Un Chretien Pour Israel Ellul deals at length with the specifically Arab/ Muslim campaign, especially its propaganda side. He analyses the PLO Charter (not the Hamas charter, but the supposedly 'secular' charter of the supposedly 'secular' 'nationalist' PLO, ancestor of Fatah), and concludes it is "a perfect expression of the Jihad".

Indeed, he argues that the PLO - ancestor of today's PA/ Fatah - is annihilationist toward Israel. Consider this passage in 'antizionism and antisemitism', when he is describing the antizionist christians and their tactical use of the peaceniks:

"I know that in Israel there are the “doves” who want to work everything out with the Arabs;

"and after a tactical manner our anti-Zionist Christians use these doves, too,

"carefully hiding the fact that their [the anti-Israel Christians’] objective, *like that of the PLO* {my emphasis added - dda}, is not reconcilation but the annihilation of the Hebrew State." END QUOTE.

Ellul, being a friend and in some sense mentor of Bat Yeor, was well aware of Islam's own homegrown antisemitism.

The most chilling words he ever wrote are to be found in his final completed work, 'Ce Dieu Injuste? - theologie chretienne pour le peuple d'Israel'.

They provide a complete and sufficient commentary to the horrible words reported above, courtesy of Mr Spencer's contacts in Denmark.

Here they are: Ellul, writing in 1991.

"l'horrible aventure des Temps presents: a la fois la Shoa commise per les nazis et celle preparee par les musulmans".

"The awful event of the present Age: both the Shoah that the Nazis committed, and that which has been prepared by the Muslims".

Commandment 0 of any religion is that it must tolerate others.

Judaism does this and actually goes a step further by recognizing righteous deeds by non-Jews who set examples for us all to follow. Christianity does this by hating the sin, not the sinners. Preaching the gospel is hardly in the same league as forcing people to convert. So what does Islam do?

How can any Moslem sleep at night with protests like this saying such horrid things in the name of his religion? Do two wrongs make a right in Islam?

I have little patience waiting for the moderates of Islam. You're either part of the solution, or you're part of the problem. If this is truly what modern Islam is willing to preach, I don't think the world will miss them if they were to disappear tomorrow.

Now, read the following verses of the Qur’an, and judge for yourself, whether God in the Holy Qur’an, Surah 2, verse 40, is really anti-Semitic:

*{O Children of Israel! call to mind the [special] favor which I bestowed upon you, and fulfill your covenant with Me as I shall fulfill My covenant with you, and fear none but Me.}*

And then in Surah 2, verse 47:

*{O Children of Israel! call to mind the [special] favor which I bestowed upon you, and that I preferred you to all others [for My message].}*

Then in Surah 2, verse 83:

*{And remember We took a covenant from the Children of Israel [to this effect]: Worship none but Allah; treat with kindness your parents and kindred, and orphans and those in need; speak fair to the people; be steadfast in prayer; and give Zakat. Then did ye turn back, except a few among you, and ye backslide [even now].}*

Then, please read in Surah 2, verse 246:

*{Has thou not turned thy vision to the Chiefs of the Children of Israel after [the time of] Moses? they said to a prophet [that was] among them: "Appoint for us a king, that we may fight in the cause of Allah." He said: "Is it not possible, if ye were commanded to fight, that ye will not fight?" They said: "How could we refuse to fight in the cause of Allah, seeing that we were turned out of our homes and our families?" but when they were commanded to fight, they turned back, except a small band among them. But Allah has full knowledge of those who do wrong.}*

Also, read in Surah 5, verse 70:

*{We took the covenant of the Children of Israel and sent them messengers, every time, there came to them a messenger with what they themselves desired not - some [of these] they called impostors, and some they [go so far as to] slay.}*

You can even read much more if you go to Surah 5 - verse 78, Surah 7 – verse 137, Surah 10, verse 93 and Surah 17, verse 2.

It is evident from the above verses, how God views the Children of Israel in general. This attitude of the Qur’an, is quite in keeping with its stand towards all humans, as it shows in Surah 49, verse 13:

*{O people, We have created you from a male and a female and made you into races and tribes so that you may know each other. Indeed the noblest of you in the sight of God are those who are the most pious among you. And Allah knows every thing and is aware of every thing.}*

we find these verses rebuking the transgressions of the Children of Israel in the Book of Jeremiah (3: 8 – 10):

“And I saw, when for all the causes whereby backsliding Israel committed adultery, I had put her away, and given her a bill of divorce; yet her treacherous sister Judah feared not, but went and played the harlot also.
And it came to pass through the lightness of her whoredom, that she defiled the land, and committed adultery with stones and with stocks.
And yet for all this her treacherous sister Judah hath not turned unto me with her whole heart, but feignedly, saith the Lord.”

And again, Jeremiah (5: 7 - 8):

“How shall I pardon thee for this? thy children have forsaken me, and sworn by them that are no gods: when I had fed them to the full, they then committed adultery, and assembled themselves by troops in the harlots' houses
They were as fed horses in the morning: every one neighed after his neighbor's wife”

And now listen to Jesus rebuking the Israelites of his day in Matthew (23: 25-- 33):

“Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For ye make clean the outside of the cup and of the platter, but within they are full of extortion and excess.
Thou blind Pharisee, cleanse first that which is within the cup and platter, that the outside of them may be clean also.
Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For ye are like unto whited sepulchers, which indeed appear beautiful outward, but are within full of dead men's bones, and of all uncleanness.
Even so ye also outwardly appear righteous unto men, but within ye are full of hypocrisy and iniquity.
Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! Because ye build the tombs of the prophets, and garnish the sepulchers of the righteous and say: “If we had been in the days of our fathers, we would not have been partakers with them in the blood of the prophets.”
Wherefore ye be witnesses unto yourselves, that ye are the children of them which killed the prophets.
Fill ye up then the measure of your fathers.
Ye serpents, ye generation of vipers, how can ye escape the damnation of hell?”

Can any sensible reader find anti-Semitism here? If not, how can we accuse God of anti-Semitism in the Qur’an where also He rebukes the transgressors among the Children of Israel?

The approach of the Qur’an is clear: God admonishes the People of the Book, those people who were given scriptures, to return to their Books. We find that on many occasions, the doctors of the old religions have distorted the scripture for their own selfish purposes. So God admonishes them and warns them of the impending punishments awaiting them. We read in Jeremiah, chapter 8: 8 –-

“How do ye say, We are wise, and the law of the Lord is with us? Lo, certainly in vain made he it; the pen of the scribes is in vain.”

Here the Prophet Jeremiah scolds those of the Children of Israel who made the Book of God false even by the use of a pen that distorts.

We see the same idea in the Qur’an too, where God scolds those people of the Book, who wrote their own verses in the Book of God and called them God’s. Can we say that God is being deliberately anti-Semitic here?

Dr. Muzammil Siddiqi, a renowned American Muslim scholar, writes on this topic:
“Taking a few passages from the Qur'an out of proper historical and textual context will not give a proper understanding of the religious scripture. This is not only true of the Qur'an but also of the Bible. Many passages from the Bible also criticize the Jews.
Read the Hebrew Bible, particularly Micah (chapter 3:1-12) and Hosea (chapter 8:1-14), in which these prophets condemned the Jews ‘who abhor justice and pervert all equity’ and who ‘build Zion with blood and Jerusalem with wrong.’

These prophets cursed Israel as a ‘useless vessel among nations’ and called for the curse of God to ‘send a fire upon [Judah's] cities’ and to make Jerusalem ‘a heap of ruins.’ Prophet Ezekiel called Israel, ‘the house of rebels and a rebellious nation,’ (Ezek, chapter 2).

Similarly, in the Book of Deuteronomy (28:16-68), Moses warns the Jews that God ‘will send upon you curses, confusion, and frustration, in all that you undertake to do, until you are destroyed and perish quickly, on account of the evil of your doings, because you have forsaken me’ (28:20).”

I am familiar with the entirety of the TaNaKh (Hebrew scriptures, commonly known to Christians as the 'Old Testament').

The ceaseless and venomous cursing of the Jews by 'allah' and Mohammed in the Quran, Sira and Hadith is completely different in tone, substance and purpose, from the in-house warnings and criticism that is found within the TaNaKh (or, for that matter, the critiques expressed by the Jew Yeshua of Nazareth and his Jewish followers).

Antisemites whether Muslim or 'christian' love to quote the fiercer passages from the Hebrew writers...however, they shut their eyes and stick their fingers in their ears if one points out to them that the very same Hebrew writers produced many, many equally passionate passages that look beyond temporary chastisement, to a future of blessing and restoration, and that affirm an eternal relationship between YHWH and Israel.

Judgement and discipline are temporary, and take place WITHIN the context of relationship; love, the love of YHWH for His people Israel, is everlasting. As St Paul says in 1 Corinthians 13, 'Love [Greek agape - probably St Paul was thinking of Hebrew ahava] bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things...love never ends". I am convinced that when Paul wrote that passage he was thinking, ultimately, of YHWH's own AHAVA, unfailing love, love for His people, then too, love for each of his human creatures. "Love NEVER ENDS".

The Quran attacks Jews from outside, and contains only ugly curses for those Jews who continue as Jews and who therefore refuse to submit to 'Islam' the Arab Imperial Religion of blood and war, and who refuse to grovel before the amoral bandit and warlord Mohammed, ubul kassim ha-meshugga;

The TaNaKh contains words of warning for those who turn from YHWH to false gods and immoral conduct (hmm: perhaps that warning would apply to any Jew silly enough to convert to Islam and kiss the black rock at the Kaaba!) but the warnings are combined with words of passionate love; and love, life and restoration are YHWH's final word, so to speak, to Israel, both in the TaNaKh and also (this will surprise some) in the Christian scriptures.

It's easy, for all it takes is to own and know the supposedly holy books.

But important too, for way too many - Muslims and non-Muslims alike - are having wrong assumptions about Islam, and its founder Muhammad in particular.

The four volumes of Al-Tabari, in particular, are illuminating. The English translation is good, and they will provide the context for understanding the Quran. It's not nearly as difficult as many make it out to be. Please indulge.

We need to take this info to blogs, debates, newspapers everywhere. Small steps, lots of them, and they add up.

With muslims, anyone who is not muslim is strange or odd, and needing of conversion, using violence as necessary. The Ummah versus the Other. Sounds pre-tty xenophobic to me.

Blacks are so accepting, and I know. As a black American I know my people who were raised as Christians are the same as the KKK raised as Christians. This is the reason why in the South the races got along better than other places. Most were poor and shared their religion and status. How do you think we have so many light-skinned blacks e.g Jeremiah Wright. Obama had a dark Kenyan which explains his browner skin color, Both of Wright's parents were fair skinned blacks.
