This shouldn't surprise anyone, since nothing is done at Guantanamo to disabuse inmates of their beliefs about the responsibility of Muslims to wage war against and subjugate unbelievers. The prevailing PC "Islam Is A Religion of Peace" line prevents that -- and makes for this recidivism. "Pentagon: 61 ex-Guantanamo inmates return to terrorism," by David Morgan for Reuters, January 13 (thanks to all who sent this in):
WASHINGTON (Reuters) – The Pentagon said on Tuesday that 61 former detainees from its military prison camp at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, appear to have returned to terrorism since their release from custody.Pentagon spokesman Geoff Morrell said 18 former detainees are confirmed as "returning to the fight" and 43 are suspected of having done in a report issued late in December by the Defense Intelligence Agency.
Morrell declined to provide details such as the identity of the former detainees, why and where they were released or what actions they have taken since leaving U.S. custody.
"This is acts of terrorism. It could be Iraq, Afghanistan, it could be acts of terrorism around the world," he told reporters.
Morrell said the latest figures, current through December 24, showed an 11 percent recidivism rate, up from 7 percent in a March 2008 report that counted 37 former detainees as suspected or confirmed active militants....
The Pentagon said it considers a former detainee's return to terrorism "confirmed" when evidence shows direct involvement in terrorist activities. U.S. officials see a "suspected" terrorism links when intelligence shows a plausible link with terrorist activities.
"Propaganda does not qualify as a terrorist activity," the Pentagon said in a statement.
Maybe not. But has the Pentagon stopped to consider that terrorist activity is born from propaganda, and that maybe they need to take off the PC blinkers long enough to examine that propaganda, its content and sources, and formulate some ways to deal with the challenge it presents.

One of the great lies of our era is that Gitmo has been a terrible place. In fact, Gitmo has been a necessary and essentially humane place for some of the foulest human beings who walk the earth. Shame on all of those in the West who have taken the side of ruthless terrorists, been rank apologists for the scum of humanity, who have inveighed against an America which is the last, best hope against pure barbarism succeeding. Idiots, whether in academia, the media, Hollywood, the Democratic Party or wherever I can take as long as they merely talk foolishness incessantly. What I can't tolerate are these same idiots succeeding in their idiotic designs.
And exactly where will the future President put these monstrosities who are now in Gitmo should he carry out one of his campaign promises to close this facility? If he does what he says he's going to do, then idiocy has made its way into the Oval Office and political correctness has been taken to a suicidal level. Time will tell.

'Returned to terrorism'...That's a cover up...What they really returned to is the art and practice of murdering people for Allah.
How many additional people have been murdered by the released 61? Is the number building?
Close Gitmo and do 'what' with the 200, extreme hard-cores that are left? And what of those yet to be arrested or captured, where are they going to put them?
Or maybe the war on terror is over, and there will be no more terrorists to capture.
With the couper president coming up, anything is possible...
Wellingtons right...Only time will tell...

It should really read:
Pentagon: 61 ex-Guantanamo inmates return to terrorism (that we know of so far)
And President Elect Barack Obama wants to "start the process" of closing Guantanamo next week.
Marvelous...

We need some ACTUALLY secret prisons. I hope we have them all over the place and people just don't know about them. A girl can dream...
Obama better not let these monsters loose in my country. He better watch it. He's not even legitimately the President. If he starts flooding my country with terrorists right off the bat, it's on. How are these people going free anyway? They're murderers. Capital punishment was created for people like these guys.

Just how COULD one convince an Islamist determined to commit violent acts of terrorism that such acts are the acts of depraved men acting apon a depraved ideology?
Appeal to whatever basic human decency He has been able to maintain and explain that many Quranic verses advocate vile cruelty?
Appeal to His sense of reason and help Him understand that if Islam in totality were ever implemented globally this planet would be horror incarnate?

Under Geneva conventions, is not another option for these prisoners to be eliminated?
This is a war, and they were captured fighting, many without uniforms.
Again, we are at war.

Nick C., we could deprogram them. That would mean recognizing that Islam is (a) evil and (b) a cult. But nobody in power deals n facts when it comes to Islam or even jihad.
We could also lock them up and throw away the key.
We could also execute them.

I wish Bush would have the worst offenders at Gitmo executed before Obama gets in office. That would be the right thing to do, but I'm sure it's wishful thinking.

I heard yesterday BHO is going to sign the closure to Gitmo on the first day in office. This guy is in way WAY over his head. I suggest he move them into the West Wing. No one wants them - what's wrong with this picture? BHO doesn't have a clue. Our new president AND congress had better wake up to some cold hard facts. Unfortunately, this country is so worried about being politically correct and is governed by the "progressives" and special interests that no one is watching the store.

It's been proven many times that, if you deprive a True Believer (in any doctrine) of reinforcing literature and symbols, eventually its hold on his mind will weaken and even disappear. During those men's incarceration in Gitmo, it would have been possible to keep Korans and other Muslim reading materials away from them, and the authorities should not have accommodated other Muslim religious practices. They should also have prohibited conversation that amounted to reinforcing indoctrination. After a few years the fanaticism would have been gone. Our big error was, and it still is, to treat Islam as a legitimate religion, separable from terrorism. The result was predictable: all that accommodation to the inmates' "religious" needs reinforced the fanaticism that put them in Gitmo in the first place.

If we have to unfortunately close Gitmo, which President Obama committed to in his campaign, then these foul inmates should be put in a cage in the Bronx Zoo so that the public can see what breed of dirty animal that they are.

You have no concept of freedom or free speech, friend. "otherwise annoying" is not the same as "shouting `fire` in a crowded theatre".
Apart from that, it's good to see you swallowing the pentagon's sugarcoated horse shit and regurgitating it for us.
It's all lies of course. We (those of us with functional frontal lobes) are still waiting for hard documentation.
You're making the US look bad, and we (those of us with functional frontal lobes) are not going to take it too much longer. I think our prisons would look much nicer if they were filled with republican war mongers and racists, rather than black people and drug addicts.
Because you do belong in prison you know. For the rest of your worthless lives.

This is what happens when the US Government releases Terrorists, that have been known to have killed, tortured, terrified and enforcing their Islamic beliefs on people from anywhere in the world. Thats why I think the US Military should just eliminated them and not capture them, because the US Military does capture them, then the Islamics will have an higher chance of being release and trying to kill us a second if not more times.

What an idiotic comment. You really need to stop reading hate sites like the Daily Kos and Huffingandpissed and start thinking for yourself. Maybe do a little research. Talk about unhinged. Sheesh!
