Important to keep in mind the details of this atrocity. "Six young men dressed in black police uniforms and carrying vinyl bags entered the temple precinct shortly before nine in the morning. One of the men shot a guard, and then all put on red headbands identifying them as members of the Islamic Group. Two of the attackers remained at the gate to await the shoot-out with the police, who never arrived. The other men crisscrossed the terraced temple grounds, mowing down tourists by shooting their legs, then methodically finishing them off with close shots to the head. They paused...

Having been to Egypt, I can assure you, dear reader, there is not one brick or artefact of any description post-Islam that is worth seeing. Without their pre-Islamic period of ignorance, they have nothing. And the irony is delicious....

What a horrible story. But what gives me hope is this: Politicians, residents and activists in the Luxor province said they plan to seal off the office of the governor to prevent Adel el-Khayat from entering So apparently there are decent people left in Egypt. The question is how many they are. It seems impossible that a majority of the population, even in a Muslim country, could support such demonic acts....
