"Muhammad defined Islam as 'Al-Islamu deen wa dawla' ('Islam is a religion and a state')" Actually, Muhammad never said that (الإسلام دين ودولة) in any hadith collection anywhere. That was Hassan al-Banna, the founder of the Muslim Brotherhood. Not only that, but the word dawlah/state isn't found anywhere in the Quran or in the hadith collections, because words like dawlah/state, siyadah/sovereignty, etc. are entirely modern because the ideas themselves are modern.
