Dutch: we're dhimmis, so we're safe

A Dutch "terrorism expert" says that Holland is safe from Madrid-type bombs because it didn't take an aggressive role in the War on Terror. Susan, who sent this from Expatica, comments that that is tantamount to saying: "'We'll give you what you want in exchange for you agreeing not to kill us.' Not much different from 'I'll pay jizyah if you promise not to kill me.'"

In the wake of the devastating bomb attacks in Madrid on Thursday, a Dutch terrorist expert has played down fears that the Netherlands could also be targeted.

Edwin Bakker, of the Clingendael Institute, told newspaper De Volkskrant that the Netherlands was relatively low down on the list of countries that faced the "wrath of Islam".

It remains unclear who carried out the attacks. The Spanish government was quick to point the finger at Basque separatist group ETA.

Following the discovery of detonators and a tape with verses from the Koran in a van linked to the bombers, ministers shifted slightly and said the possibility of Al Qaeda involvement was being investigated.

If terrorists associated with Osama bin Laden were involved, this would seem to increase the risk to other European states.

But Bakker said that the Spanish and Dutch involvement in the "war on terror" were not identical.

Dutch Prime Minster Jan Peter Balkenende gave "political, but not military" support for the US-led invasion of Iraq. There are also 1,300 Dutch marines involved in patrolling a southern province of Iraq.

Stationed there since the summer of 2003, the Dutch troops might soon be ordered to remain there until at least the end of this year.

"Spain's support for the US is far more overt. Spain was prominent in the build up to the war in Iraq, while the Netherlands was not," Bakker said.

Turning to the Dutch position of "political, but not military" support, Bakker said the stance had caused confusion among Dutch people and among terrorists.

He said the Netherlands was rarely mentioned on the websites of Muslim fundamentalist groups.

The Dutch have just now begun to purge themselves of troublesome immigrants, as have some of the other dhimmi states of Northern Europe. In Europe, "troublesome immigrant" means something more than it does here.

It is curious that the Europeans find their righteousness to be buttressed by the fact that terrorist cells kill people elsewhere.

Somebody give him a shot of that ol' Dutch Courage, will ya?

Do the Dutch remember how their strict neutrality in 1940 prevented the bombing of Rotterdam? Apparently not.

You did not listen then maybe you will listen NOW Oh well here goes, lets see if you GET IT this time around.

“ If you will not fight for right when you can easily win without bloodshed; if you will not fight when your victory will be sure and not too costly; you may come to the moment when you will have to fight with all the odds against you and only a precarious chance of survival.

“There may be even a worse case. You may have to fight when there is no hope of victory, because it is better to perish than live as slaves”

I have Belgian cousins (teenagers), and they are virulently anti-Muslim. The current generation of Europeans may be dhimmi in outlook, but the next one (mine and my cousins') will be far less so.

BTW, my cousins are virulently anti-Islam because they regularly get hassled by the Muslim kids at their school. Most 'ethnic European' kids who have such experience think along similar lines.

If one's not willing to defend their life, they're nothing more than a slave who's not wearing his chains at the moment.

How'd Rummy put it? It's like throwing everyone else to the alligators in hopes that they'll eat you last.

Appeasement, pure and simple.

Maybe Europe is looking at the "root causes" of why they got hit by the terrorists now, as they did post-911.

Godspeed
