It is a positive development that Muslim leaders are urging Muslim doctors to treat anyone, as has been the norm in the West since Hippocrates. But how many Muslim doctors will go along? And as for Dr. Naseem's claim that this isn't happening, it strains credulity that Dr. Qureshi would be invited to speak to 32 med schools to address a problem that does not exist. Officials from the Muslim Council of Britain have visited the universities of Birmingham and Warwick as part of a UK-wide tour following concerns some conservative GPs have refused to treat patients with sexually transmitted infections claiming it goes against the teachings of the Koran.Dr Jafer Qureshi, from the Muslim Council, said he had been invited to address all 32 of the country's medical schools on the issue.
He admitted beliefs of "illinformed conservative doctors" were a cause for "great concern" to moderate Muslims.
But doctors and Islamic lead-ers in Birmingham last night denied such practices existed among GPs....
Dr Mohammed Naseem, chairman of Birmingham Central Mosque, said he found such claims "hard to believe".
"I have difficulty believing any doctor would refuse treatment because it would be against their duty," he said.
"It is not their duty to decide if someone is a sinner or not."
However, Dr Qureshi said he believed about 600 of the 30,000 medical students in Britain, about a tenth of the Muslim intake, think sexual diseases like chlamydia and Aids are punishment for immorality.

Conservative doctors who refuse to treat people because of their illnesses??....strip them of their medical certificates if they insist on carrying on like witch doctors of the stone age.
Next they will be snuffing out the lives of "sinners"....I'm sure thats crossed their minds.

They probably refuse to take the Hippocratic Oath. Let them treat only Muslim patients. Better still, let them treat Muslim patients in a Muslim country. They aren't fit to practice medicine in a Western country.

Shouldn't be problem in the UK. Practically all medics are government employees (not polite to call the civil servants, but..). Refusal to treat would be (should be) breach of contract. Of course, if the government employer fails to enforce the contract, government should carry the blame.

If you ever talk to educated Muslims, one thing that you are struck by early on is their ability to compartmentalize their thinking. They can memorize and regurgitate the latest scientific knowledge yet at the same time can be rabid Islamic fanatics. According to Sharia law, they are allowed to learn useful knowledge which can "sustain worldly existence" (Reliance of the Traveller a5.2, p. 13) but they are not allowed to learn "... anything that is a means to create doubts (n: in eternal truths)." (Reliance of... a7.2(6), p.14)

The ironic thing about this is that many of the people in the UK suffering with AIDS are heroin addicts. The irony being that it is the muslims who smuggle the biggest percentage of heroin into this country, and deal much of it.

Given the selfishness that Islam encourages this report doesn't surprise me. I recall several years ago people being shocked to find out that while Muslims will accept organ transplants they refuse to donate organs for transplant.People were asking why such a group would even be consider for scare organ transplants.While you can find non-Muslims who are against organ donation few are so hypocritical as to turn around and accept organs for transplant.

Is anyone surprised? The Hippocratic Oath and all it entails is a Western ethical construct, after all. It has no place in the "perfect" religion.

Any medic who violates the Hippocrtic oath msut be struck off by the GMC.
You will be surprised how quickly Muslim medics back down. They really are just testing the waters, pushing to see how far they can go. This is being done in evry sphere of society. We need to start pushing back.
Pakistan and Bangladesh, are not quite so alluring when it comes to medical practise, rewards and life style.

Voltaire asked about Muslims treating Aids victims. A Canadian friend of mine was a nurse in Saudi Arabia, earning a fortune because they have to import skilled people. Apparently Saudis are riddled with Aids - they go over at weekends to relatively liberal Dubai and screw around.
Officially, of course, it does not exist.
