Bizarre paranoia in Egypt

"Unify the times of your prayer calls," said Powell. "Yes, master," said Mubarak. The ridiculousness of this fantasy is only partly rooted in the immense distance between this "reform" and the reform that is really needed in Islam worldwide. From AP:

CAIRO, Egypt (AP) - The government said Saturday it wants to unify the calls to prayer that blare separately from thousands of mosque loudspeakers in the capital Cairo, but the idea was criticized by radicals as un-Islamic.

"We need one live voice prayer call from Cairo's 4,000 mosques through a wireless network," Minister of Religious Endowment Mahmoud Hamdi Zaqzouq said.

Newspapers of opposition parties and militants writing in Islamic Web sites criticized the initiative as a step toward banning the dawn prayer.

"I did not expect this fuss in the newspapers, magazines and the satellite television stations as if it was a doomsday," the minister told a news conference....

Prayer calls are blared through loudspeakers of mosques five times a day. Mosques in the same neighborhood in Cairo sometimes call Muslims to prayer two to three minutes apart, causing confusion among the worshippers.

Zaqzouq, whose ministry is in charge of religious affairs, said the government has heard the complaints of Cairenes.

"Everyday I receive complaints from people about the loudspeakers and when I ask them to make official complaints, they say they were afraid of being accused of being infidels or acting against religion," Zaqzouq said.

Zaqzouq defended the unified prayer call, which he said opponents considered a heresy. "In fact, the loudspeakers is heresy because Islam has been doing fine for 1,350 years without loudspeakers," he said.

Hear that, Hamtramck?

Zaqzouq dismissed some opponents' criticism that the initiative was part of a U.S. pressure on Egypt to carry out religious and educational reform.

"The opponents say this initiative is an American one, as if every step of reform should come through instructions from America," Zaqzouq said.

What's happening in Hamtramck, is the call to prayer going out over loudspeakers now?

Dr. Phibes:

Yes, it is, and has been for several months. You can do a search at both JW and DW for articles on this topic.

JWers/DWers:

This will be posted on multiple threads and periodically for the next few days, so I apologize in advance for the repetition.

Susan B and I are compiling a list of e-mail addresses for JWers/DWers who might wish to contact each other personally. Once your name is on the list, if someone wants to contact you, you will first be contacted by Susan who will obtain your authorization before giving out your e-mail address to the individual who requests it. So far we've had a pretty good response to our previous posts but there are a lot of familiar names missing! If you'd like to join our contact list, send your info (be sure to include your JW screenname so we know who you are) to susan_b356@yahoo.com.

Hey, Louie Farrakhan! Do you know another reason for Egyptian Islamicists' paranoia? It's because Colin Powel is an Abid. Does your mosque include that word in its Arabic lessons?

All the better I'd say. 5 times a day these urban centres of jihadi breeding will go outta action simulatanously in a coordinated move. Splendid!

Should the west ever wake up enough to plan wholesale action against these jihadi dolts, concentrating all the arab males (point 31 on the the virulent jihadi profile list) in one place even for a few minutes multiple times a day maybe helpful in more ways than one....

Mosques in the same neighborhood in Cairo sometimes call Muslims to prayer two to three minutes apart, causing confusion among the worshippers.

WTF could be more confusing than the worship of a pedophilic, boy-loving, racist, slave-raiding, perverted, ugly, old lecherous wretch of a "prophet"?

Yeah, FarraKLAN doesn't like to talk about the Arabic word "Abed" which means "black" and the Arabic word "Abed" which means "slave."

He likes to say "Islam is the natural religion for the black man..." Yeah. And Christianity is the natural religion for the American Indian. And Bow Ties are the natural garment for the religious lunatic.

FarraKLAN likes the taste of Arabic feces, straight from the hole. After all, "the money doesn't stink." Now that Lord Bush in "normalizing" relations with Moamar Qadafhi, I wonder how soon it will be before FarrahKLAN is allowed to receive his ONE-BILLION-DOLLAR grant from Qadafhi? Remember, Moamar gave the grant about six years ago, but FarraKLAN was forbidden by US law to receive it?

I wonder what Farraqueer will do with his billion (TAX-FREE) dollars? I wonder who many black children he can convince that Jews invented slavery, that Jews invented AIDS to kill africans? I wonder how many black kids FarraKLAN will be made to forget that Jews started and ran the NAACP when black people were unwilling and unable to do so?

Maybe he can recruit a whole new generation of atheletes to stand up and say "A black man that loves a white woman deserves to be lynched" like Cassius Clay. Ooops, wait. The Nation Of Islam has dropped that little provision. So much for the "unchanging message of God."

I hope Bush does let that billion come in, kj~ and then have the Treasury confiscate it for the benefit of those Quaddafi killed over Lockerbie. It would be perfect justice, and make Farakhan look weak in front of his thugs- errr, inmate- errrrr, constituents.

Praying five times a day as well as endless rituals and prohibitions are a kind of busy work for Muslims keeping their minds perpetually on Islam. Thus, uncoordinated calls to prayer just adds more busy to the work!
