DASS, Nigeria - Lawyers for a woman sentenced to death by stoning for allegedly committing adultery asked an Islamic court in northern Nigeria on Wednesday to overturn the verdict, and the judge said he would issue a ruling in two weeks.Hajara Ibrahim's lawyers appealed the sentence at the Upper Shariah Court in the rural town of Dass, 25 miles south of the state capital, Bauchi.
Judge Mohammed Mustapha Umar said he would rule on the appeal on Nov. 10.
Ibrahim, now 18 years old and seven months pregnant, was convicted of adultery on Oct. 5 by an Islamic court in the remote town of Lere, Bauchi state, located in Nigeria's predominantly Muslim north.
On Wednesday, Ibrahim's lawyer Adbullahi Suleiman argued for the conviction to be overturned because Ibrahim was never married and, therefore, could not be guilty of adultery.
"There was no evidence she was once married," Suleiman told The Associated Press at the end of the proceedings.
Under the version of Islamic Shariah law in effect in parts of northern Nigeria, sex outside wedlock is considered adultery if one of the partners is or has ever been married. If neither partner was ever married, then it is condemned as "fornication," punishable by whipping.
While Ibrahim was sentenced on account of her pregnancy, the man she says impregnated her was freed for lack of evidence.
Unless he is caught in the act or there is some other incriminating evidence, all he has to do to be freed under Sharia law is deny the charge. For women, it's a different story.

And yet we've got numb nuts here in the West, wanting to "understand the Muslim plight", blah, blah, blah, by fasting at Ramadam with them. To experience and understand Islam, la la la la! To truly experience Islam, why don't these airy-fairy do-gooder nutjobs offer to stand in for Hajara there? That oughta give them a real wake up call as to what Islam is all about. Forget this pious, oh we're suffering and being oppressed BS rubbish about how tough it is to be a Muslim in the West, especially during Ramadam. Get knees deep into the real, raw Islam.

All leaders or dictators in countries where the sharia law is endorsed, should be stoned to death themselves for allowing such babarity to take place in the name of religion.

And where is Amnesty International or Human Rights Watch? Or the Durban crowd who labelled Israel a racist apartheid state?

I think the world leaders that wish to share an Islamic experience should attend this poor woman's stoning, heaven forbid, if it comes to that.
This poor woman will be buried bound, halfway in the ground, covered in a sheet, and a mob of gutless swine will throw stones at her until she dies. If she can free herself and crawl from the circle then Allah has pardoned her or some insane nonesense like that.
Nevertheless, it would be a good experience for world leaders to see this and lob a stone or two at the helpless woman while screaming "Allah is great", just to get the feel for it you understand. Hmmm. Sounds warm and cuddly.
If they don't want to get their hands dirty they can just watch the videos of other stonings that are out on the net. I watched a video of three men stoned to death by a rabid muslim mob acting out Allah's justice and it made me physically ill. A more brutal, bloody, barbarous act I have never seen. They should show that video to anyone that thinks Islam is a religion of peace and love.

I must have missed something here,if they want to stone her for adultry then they aknowledge
another man had sex with her.
Where's the guy that bangged her,or is that Islamic justied to stone to death the victim
if it's a female. I thought that if I called the Police to report a break-in at which 2lbs cocain was stolen and two illegal handguns,my own admission to criminal activity doesn't absolve me of responsibility to posessing drugs and illegal guns.
The Islamic faith is getting harder to be taken as a non-misogenistic belief and Sharia law doesn't appear to respect human rights and social morals that forbid certain physical abuses to females.

Where can I get a video of these stonings/hangings in Islamic countries? I have a multi-culti Englishman that should see these things. He's been brainwashed by the BBC. It's digusting to hear him argue. He really believes that most people are rational and understand fair play. I can see why Europe will become Arabicized after talking with him. These people are sheep. Sheeple!

Don't overlook the fact that if the woman can get out of the hole and squirm over to the edge of the circle then it's Allah's will she be spared.
I've seen a video where a person is wrapped up in cloth and placed in a hole to be stoned to death,it's not pretty and still goes on along with the public killing of Homosexuals in Palestine. The oppressed became the oppressors
and even Muslims in palestine know the quran allows murder for the glory of Allah.
The Jews are just another excuse for the overt display of hatred by these peace-loving tolerant
followers of Muhammed.
