I don't actually have any problem with Muslims or anyone else taking time out of the school day for prayer. There is certainly enough nonsense and wasted time in the average public school day to justify any amount of time away, as far as I'm concerned. What concerns me here is that I seem to remember a string of controversies a few years back in which Christian students were barred from praying or even holding private Bible study groups at public schools. Perhaps someone can fill in the details on that, but in short, I trust that this decision will also be extended to allow people of other faiths also to leave classes for prayer. From UPI, with thanks to Susan:
Atlanta, GA, Oct. 28 (UPI) -- Muslim students in Georgia's largest school district would be excused for Friday prayer under an agreement between Muslim leaders and school officials. A tentative compromise was reached in a 90-minute meeting Wednesday in which district officials proposed three options that Muslim leaders plan to circulate at five Gwinnett County mosques this weekend, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported Thursday. They expect to choose one by next week.Three years ago the school wouldn't allow Khalid Rashied's eldest son out of last period to go to prayers required of Muslims on Friday afternoon.
With the help of the Council on American-Islamic relations this year, Rashied renewed his request and, after going to Wednesday's meeting, is confident a solution would be reached by Monday.

re Mr. Spencer's comments:
"I don't actually have any problem with Muslims or anyone else taking time out of the school day for prayer. There is certainly enough nonsense and wasted time in the average public school day to justify any amount of time away, as far as I'm concerned."
The idea that there is "enough nonsense and wasted time" is open to subjective interpretation.
And who, pray tell, will decree which "nosense and wasted time" be made available to students to accomodate religious ferver? What is "nonsense and wasted time"? Homeroom? Chorus? Science? Art? Band? Woodshop/tech? Social Studies? Math? Gym? Health? Foreign language? Endulge me . . .what wasted time?
Somewhat off topic but relevant:
The ACLU is campaigning to overturn immigration policy changes set by the Patriot act. Why? Because America's high tech industry and Institutions of higher education cannot attract sufficient numbers of qualified (highly educated) American candidates.
This should raise the ire of every American. Why isn't the US public educational system meeting this demand?
Back to topic:
Again, I have no problem accomodating students who are fasting (for religious purposes) with a separate area (library?) away from the school cafeteria.
Accomodating prayer time (on an individual basis)is inappropriate and disruptive to the purpose of teaching in public schools.

These tactics are just a ruse to impose Islam by proxy,I find it hard to belive that if a Muslim Doctor was trying to help a person that was dieing he would stop and go to the school to take his child to Friday prayers.
Come on,they fought to get Christ and keep Christ out of the classrooms and Schools, now they want Islam and the Quran accepted into the school.
How about having the kid skip lunch and stay after school prior to Fridays and then leave on Friday afternoon so they don't miss any teaching time.
Oh wait, what was I thinking, they want all the paid time-off Christian Holidays but also the Muslims one too, just wait until they form a Islamic party that wants Sharia law in the USA.
The ACLU will be outlawed and any opposition
to Muslims will result in jail time under the Islamic Patriot-Act for Americans.

After studying our strengths and weaknesses, Islamists have found that our education system is one of the weakest links.
Instillimg Islam is easy in this system that has for years been infected by political correctness and multiculturalism. And it's a very efficient way to instill an ideology. Very clever of those Islamists, don't you think?
As ala-sux has pointed out, we have to be on the lookout for the participation of the ACLU as they will live down to their infamous reputation, using Leftists lawyers and activists judges to "interpret" the law.
Keep your eyes and ears open for new or old legislation. We are preoccupied by the election and by terrorist threats and thus vulnerable to sneak-legislation.
