Anti-dhimmitude in the UK: Race chief demands Muslims join terror fight

From the Times Online, with thanks to Ali Dashti:

THE head of Britain’s race watchdog urged Muslim leaders yesterday to speak out more against terrorism and called on them to do more to support the rights of Muslim women.

Trevor Phillips, chairman of the Commission for Racial Equality, said that Muslim protestations that Islam is opposed to the crimes carried out in its name could be taken seriously only if those assertions were acted on in Britain.

It's high time someone said that.

His remarks aroused immediate protests from Muslim leaders, who said that they had been assiduous in condemning terrorism. A senior insider said that Mr Phillips’s remarks on this issue could be interpreted as Islamophobic, although he said that there was much else in the speech that was good.

They missed the point. He didn't say they hadn't condemned terrorism. He said they hadn't ACTED on their condemnations. Was he wrong?

Speaking to an audience of Muslim academics at the Oxford Centre for Islamic Studies, Mr Phillips said: “Though I know it is irritating to many of you, and feels unjust that you have to do this time and time again, it remains important for mainstream Muslim leaders to point out that British Muslims have no time for terrorism, and call on anyone who practises it in the name of Islam to cease.”

He praised the work of the Muslim Council of Britain in combating terrorism. This year the council took the unprecedented step of writing to every mosque urging worshippers to exercise vigilance against terrorism. However, Mr Phillips went on to speak out about the issue of women in Islam. “It remains crucial for Muslim leaders to remind the rest of us that true Islam does not compel young women to travel thousands of miles to be given away by their families to men they do not know and to whom they do not want to be married. It remains vital for Muslim leadership to denounce those who claim that they have a cultural right to impose circumcision on young women.”

He added: “Muslim protestations that the faith is opposed to the depredations and crimes carried out in its name . . . and that it regards equality of women as intrinsic to Islam can only be taken seriously if we see those assertions being made flesh here in our communities.”

Better to pen them up. They won't join a fight against their Muslim brothers. They can't be trusted.

I think Michael Moore had it right in his anti-Bush FRNHT-911,he was annoyed that Bush didn't detain Arabs and Muslims after the 9/11 attack.
Moore's movie makes Bush look like an idiot for "Allowing" them to leave America on 9/13/01
while most Airports were still shut down.

A easy way to deal with this will be to demand that any permits issued for religious building must post a "Human right declaration" for all people in Britain and leaders must accept responsibility for failing to act on allegation
of Militant groups within the place of worship.

Ala-sux:

Moore -- or more precisely his source, Craig Unger -- didn't have his facts straight about the flights of Saudis out of the US following 9/11. The FBI questioned parties of interest, then Richard Clarke -- Moore's hero -- personally raised the green light, but not until international flights resumed and did so without consulting with Bush.

Even if the 130 or so Saudis were among the first to go, just whose interests would have been served if any of them were killed by any of Osama's associates? If you recall, Osama originally denied paternity of 9/11 (and dear Michael Moore wanted to give him the benefit of the doubt too, didn't he?), and anyone in a position to point the finger might have been in danger of assassination.

Kudos to Mr. Phillips for pointing out the obvious. At first glance alone, it's kind of difficult to see equality between a man dressed in 21st century attire and an unidentified female decked out in 7th century arab desert costume. Yes, pray show us, how islam treats men and women equally.

Shame Trevor Phillips is such a tosser!

If you had read any other of his "offerings" you might see his real agenda. He rants and whines that the ethnic majority in the UK are to blame for all societies ills and in particular all the ills of the ethnic minorities. If he were a white man he would be denounced as a racist and bigot but because he is one of El Presedente Blair's chums he can spout his often ill educated and poorly researched rubbish and the press listen!

I am surprised that he is not a muslim or at least a closet muslim. He could then add that to the other chips he carries on his shoulder.

His previous best was a rant that “Countryside dwelling Whitey” is racist because not enough ethnics lived in the countyside. Of course blame only one side. He completely missed the point that Whitey did not live in the countryside because there was no work and housing was too expensive! He also missed the point that yon ethnic headed him self straight for the major conurbations… what an ill educated idiot he is!

Do I perhaps give the impression that I consider Phillips to be a dangerous fool? Whatever gave you that idea?

Waterdragon52:

Thanks for the insight but the movie I saw still left the patrons thinking that Bush "Allowed" Muslims and Arabs to leave the Country after 9/11 and judging by the response
in the theatre Moore has a following that actually
accepts his "Cut n paste" version of the truth.

Oh,the boy and the kite was so moving and I didn't know the Iraqis were so happy and free.
