Holland: Huge mosque built to overshadow soccer stadium

A taste of Islamic tolerance and coexistence in the Netherlands. From Newsday, with thanks to Susan:

ROTTERDAM - To Ronald Sorensen, the minarets rising above the historic Feyenoord soccer stadium in this port city symbolize everything that's gone wrong with the Netherlands.

"It's an insult to put it here," snorts the 57-year-old leader of Leefbaar Rotterdam (Livable Rotterdam), now one of the largest parties in city government. "Feyenoord is like New York's Yankee Stadium. It's the temple to Dutch soccer. It's the symbol of the Dutch working class."

When completed, the mosque will be one of the largest in western Europe, with room for 1,500 worshipers and boasting minarets that will soar 164 feet into the air - higher than the adjacent stadium's light banners. In Sorensen's mind, that proves two things: that the Muslim community could not care less about Dutch sensibilities, and that the former city officials who approved the mosque deserved to be run out of office.

After his party swept into power on a wave of anti-immigration sentiment two years ago, "we said we'll find another spot for you," Sorensen said. "They said no. We asked them to lower the height of the minarets. They said no. It's a symbol of their feelings toward us. They think we are inferior because we are not Muslims."

It doesn't matter whose turf they are on, the Muslims hold the rest of the world in contempt, yet howl with indignation if they aren't given "respect".

The world was been denied an architectural masterpiece out of "respect" for Muslim sensitivities, when the Israeli government decided against building a great synagogue for Jerusalem that they commissioned the legendary (Jewish) American architect Louis Khan to design. Ironically, Khan designed a mosque, and the federal government buildings for the fledgling independent nation of Bangladesh.

I am speechless and angry. There seems no hope really, so I am going to take a break from worrying about this. If Europe and America want to sell their souls, to hades with them, I don't care anymore.

I don't know how Mr. Spencer and Mr. Fitzgerald both cope with the dreadful news daily streaming into the JihadWatch offices.

It is too emotionally draining to see our leaders throw us to the Islamists without so much as a pang of guilt or a tiny fraction of fight in them.

I posted this before, this says how I feel:

"I'M AS MAD AS HELL, AND I'M NOT GOING TO TAKE THIS ANYMORE!"

I want you to get up right now, sit up, go to your windows, open them and stick your head out and yell - 'I'm as mad as hell and I'm not going to take this anymore!'

THINGS HAVE GOT TO CHANGE. BUT FIRST, YOU'VE GOTTA GET MAD!...

You've got to say, 'I'm as mad as hell, and I'm not going to take this anymore!' Then we'll figure out what to do about the depression and the inflation and the oil crisis. But first get up out of your chairs, open the window, stick your head out, and yell, and say it:

Howard Beale: [screaming at the top of his lungs]

"I'M AS MAD AS HELL, AND I'M NOT GOING TO TAKE THIS ANYMORE!"

I hope this will be the straw that breaks the Dutch camel's too-tolerant back!

Or, before long, the soccer balls will be Dutch heads- rolling down the streets of Rotterdam.

Sterkte hoor! (Hang in there, Hollanders!)

You can kill their artists and politicians, but don't mess with "voetbal" (soccer)!

(AND JUST WAIT TILL THE MUEZZIN CALL STARTS UP DURING A FEYNOORD MATCH AGAINST BIRMINGHAM!)

"It's the end of the world as we know it..." RAG.

"They think we are inferior because we are not Muslims." And that is precisely what the Qu'ran teaches believers to think. But that is just the beginning. Read on Infidel, and discover what is really in store for you for those who believe that the Qu'ran is a perfect revelation from heaven.

Then read some hadiths, and learn the depths of the perversity of the man Muslims call 'the Messenger'.

That stadium is the home of my favourite footballclub. Really, I feel so angry about this mosque they are building, that I always need to count to ten before I speak about it. This blasted mosque is a symbolic loss of western culture versus the islamic one. I fear it will probabaly become a place of great riots as well, since both hooligans and radical muslims know how to riot.

Posted by: Nordthiad [TypeKey Profile Page] at December 6, 2004 3:58 PM

Now British football hooligans have something to destroy after their next loss...

Billboards, the kind that convince testosterone rich young men everywhere that they too will get the last square centimeter of clothing off of that nearly naked too good to be true young girl body next to them if they only drink this and no other beer, is the answer. Billboards abound around (not just in) sporting arenas, they are one of the best places to advertise. What could possibly be more offensive to the local imam than a larger than life nearly naked young girl lavisciously holding a bottle of beer in plain view of his mosque? Just think how shameful that imam will feel after he had to sinfully take "matters into his own hand" after staring at that young nubile beauty for hours on end. Feeling offended by commercial advertising after placing a mosque near a sporting arena is as disingenuous as the women's christian temperance league being offended after placing a mission inside a Las Vegas casino.

So will the "call to prayer" be heard from the mosque during soccer games?

That'll go over well.

I know the feeling, but there is lots of hope. Remember that the enemy is never a 10-foot giant. I remember when the wall (the iron curtain) came down what a strange feeling it was watching it on television. All of my life and most of my parents life it had been in place. I thought the communists would be there forever, I thought they were a huge, powerful, monolithic block, I thought they were 10 feet tall. They weren’t. And neither are the islamofacists. Many things around the world are happening. Maybe not as fast as we would like, but they are happening none the less. Even things such as this website and posting board are a huge help in this struggle. So don’t lose hope. There are large numbers of people all around the world that have the same feelings about islamofacists as we do.

As far as someone in authority doing anything, I wouldn’t count on it until it is so obvious that they must do something, only then will they do it. But even that is not always a problem. I remember our old socialist Prime Minister Pierre Elliott Trudeau. He was a member of the Club of Rome. (They published a much-discredited book called “limits to growth” in the early 1970’s) He and they believed that only a very few people affect the course of history and that these people would be elitists like them. They were mistaken on where these people come from, because even ordinary people can affect history. Indeed the changers of history are more likely to come from the masses than from the elite.

Typical Islamic arrogance. They're so puffed up with it. Because we let them get away with it. Too bad we don't tar and feather people before running them out of town anymore - this is what those city officials who approved that monstrosity deserves.

And you hear about all these "Muslim sensitivity" workshops these days, but obviously it's ass backwards. It should be the Muslims who take the sensitivity training - to learn to understand the West's sensitivities. But that wouldn't be PeeCee, of course. No, we must grovel before these barbarians, according to the loony leftie idiots amongst us.

If that horrid wailing is heard during a game, the fans should all drown it out with a naughty football song. With lots of swear words and references to sex.

feralee-

I can only hope the Rotterdammers never have to get to the point of merely answering the 'disembowelled sheep cry' of the muezzin from the minaret with anything a impotent as a soccer stadium yell.

Mosques should be built ONLY in Muslim countries, since they do not allow anything but mosques to be constructed in the center of the 'faith' [Saudi] Arabia.

Rotterdam is the center of the faith of Soccer.
I'd rather see four giant condoms inflated at the corners of the Feyenoord arena than minarets.

More fitting with the Dutch sense of humor and openess about sexuality.

But, if it gets close to being built, the Rotterdam 'ladies of the evening' should be given a new, perfectly-legal red light district -entirely encircling the mosque's proposed site. (Maybe that would dissuade the mullahs.)

"Rot op!" is the Dutch expression for these Koranic kooks. ("Beat it!")

"Op is op!"* I hope.

(*"The game is over" for the mullahs...)

Mosques are markers of territory for Muslims, the minarets priapic symbols of the ascendancy and superiority of the one true faith over all other codes of evil. In India, Hindu temples were smashed and Mosques built over them. The Qutb Minar, an Islamic monument in Delhi, is built from the smashed rocks of Hindu temples. You can still see the Hindu Gods carved into the bricks that were cracked and used to build monuments to Islam. Another favourite technique was to get the holiest stone from the Hindu temple and use it as the stepping stone on the front door of the Mosque, so that every worshipper would tread his dirty feet on the holy remains of Hindu statues.

Go to Jerusalem and see how the Muslims decided to concoct a story about Mohammed ascending to heaven from the Holy City, so they could build a Mosque over the Wailing Wall to assert the supremacy of Islam over the old faith. Although I am not an expert in Byzantium, the Ottomans sacked churches and converted them into Mosques, and there are numerous, endless, equally horrifying examples of this brutality and thuggery.

This is a conscious and justified snuffing out of the actual physical representations of other religions. The act of temple/church/synagogue smashing is a practical example of what Islam does and is sanctified by its scripture to do: Stamp on the face of the infidel, smash to smithereens their holy sites, destroy them and display Allahs ascendancy, submit their temporal spaces to Islam just as their souls must also be brought to submit to Islam.

The case in point of Rotterdam is an interesting example because football is perhaps one of the most potent symbols and aspects of Dutch, and European, social identity. Its roots are deep, football stretches into every community, it takes on a mystical aspect, a tribal, unifying aspect, stadiums are hearts of the community, they are secular cathedrals, rooted in the working classes of Europe, but symbolic of the great culture of the game that stretches across all classes and regions.

So of course, for the members of the Rotterdam Ummah, the stadium is an affront to them, a symbol of the arrogance of Dutch people, who dare to deny Mohammed and Islam, and as such, a symbol of the one true faith shall be made to tower above the stadium, the Dutch shall be taught a lesson, the house of Allah shall make all others shrink before it, it shall dominate the skyline as a portent of how it shall dominate the world, you will not be able to avoid us, because we shall tower over you.

In Islamic countries all other religions are persecuted and asphyxiated and no infidel place of worship may be built higher than a mosque.

This is not hypocrisy, it is the Islamic way. The self evident truths of the Koran put the ascendancy of Islam over all others, the decimation of all religions it comes into contact with, the steady challenging of liberal secular democracy it now makes (aided and abetted by blind leftists within) is as much an evident force of nature as the superiority of Man over animal. Islam is perfection, the Muslim is the perfect man, all others are animal.

Holland, land of Vincent Van Gogh, Rembrandt, Spinoza, Vermeer, Johann Cruyff, Marco Van Basten, I hope and pray for you. The men from Rotterdam that allowed this to happen are guilty of a subtle but unforgivable crime. The dhimmitude and stupidity is astonishing. One can see civilisation in the process of ceding itself to the fanatics and death cultists.

I want to offer words of comfort to Dutch readers, but as so often happens, I feel exasperated by this news. And so very very sad.

Posted by: Kaffir Boy [TypeKey Profile Page] at December 6, 2004 7:30 PM

If I remember right, the Dutch found a good solution to a few mosques last month. Maybe they can apply the same solution to this mosque? I want to stress I am not advocating doing anything illegal here. That would be just wrong.

Earlier this year I read about a bunch of football fans in the ME (might have been Iraq)who were on their way to an important match. They got stopped and were all killed in cold blood.

The justification for this slaughter? Football is 'unislamic' because it distracts people from concentrating solely on u-know-who.

This story about the Rotterdam stadium is a 'sickener', but I've a feeling that intrusive mosque (if it ever gets built without 'incident') will prove an irresistible challenge to devoted soccer fans. It might even bring about the near impossible by uniting Dutch and British fans against a common nuisance.

The imams may yet regret their bird's-eye view and end up 'sick as parrots!'

Posted by: Benelux [TypeKey Profile Page] at December 6, 2004 8:04 PM

Are the Dutch football fans as rowdy as the U.K. football fans? These muslims may wish they had built elsewhere if this is the case. I can imagine what might happen after a game on Friday. Do they have prayers at night? When are games usually held?

Posted by: Sheik Canuck (swt) [TypeKey Profile Page] at December 6, 2004 8:09 PM

Ok. So what're ya gonna do about it? You bet I'm waiting and watching with genuine interest.
May a 1000 riots bloom but justice be done in the end.

Could it be? could it just be, that finally islam will encounter anotehr fanatical religion, the only one of its kind in europe - soccer?! Let the games begin!

I believe that Ajax of Amsterdam are viewed as the Jewish team of the Netherlands because of their traditional fanbase, and as such, Feyenoord fans taunt them about the Middle East conflict to get a rise out of them.

I suggest it is time for them to bury the hatchet. Feyenoord fans should display the Israeli flag from every corner, fence and seat on the ground, while walking to and from the stadium too, and concoct some pictures of Ariel Sharon in a Feyenoord shirt, too.

People should be made aware of the potency of symbols on all sides of the fence.

Posted by: Kaffir Boy [TypeKey Profile Page] at December 6, 2004 8:23 PM

I suggest that the Rotterdam city council reverse their imbecilic approval of this construction, in light of 'current troubles', and allow the mosque to be built the moment a synagogue is permitted to be built in Mecca.

Or when hell freezes over. Whichever comes first.

And Feyenoord might consider changing their soccer club's name to "TEAM VAN GOGH" meanwhile.

Let's get this fight out in the damned open.

Get an English football side to play there, and if they lose, watch those English football fans go wild, and hopefully go inside the mosque and tear it up.

Nice sentiment guys, but I think all the most "tollerant" of Brit footy fans are banned from taking their "greetings" abroad, pity really in the light of this abomination, I'm sure they would have had a ball !!

The muslims, as a minority, can build mosques dominating western cities skylines but westerners can't build similar sized churches, if any new churches at all, in muslim countries. THAT IS CULTRUAL GENOCIDE...LETS USE THE CORRECT WORDS FOR THIS. We westerners are being kind but our kindness isn't being reciprocated and that in the long run is a losing policy for westerners.

Whether it is the moderate or fundamentalist muslims doing this it is still cultural genocide (OF US)...that fact remains. I will think better of Islam when it DOES SOMETHING ETHICAL ABOUT IT!!!

Posted by: obl r us [TypeKey Profile Page] at December 7, 2004 1:44 AM

Here's what will REALLY happen:-

1: The mosque is completed.
2: After a short period of time, the Muslims will complain that the noise coming from the stadium is "insensitive" and offensive to Muslims.
3: PC people (with fat arses) will be running around like goody two-shoes trying to deal with the conflict; ie: the muslim's complains.
4: Goody two-shoes Councillors (mates of the fat arsed PC people) will seek to restrict the hours during which games may be played at Feyenoord statium.
5: Play at Feyenoord stadium will be restricted.

.... anyone need to know anymore??

Posted by: PrinceHarry [TypeKey Profile Page] at December 7, 2004 3:18 AM

PS: I suppose that I had also better state the obvious...

6: Muslims will commit violent acts in response to the insensitivity of the attendees of Feyenoord stadium.

Posted by: PrinceHarry [TypeKey Profile Page] at December 7, 2004 3:57 AM

Border Collie: "So will the "call to prayer" be heard from the mosque during soccer games?"

Probably, and it may even interfere with the Feyenoord supporters chanting their trademark battlecry "Hamas, Hamas, all Jews to the gas chamber!"

Muslims build the mosque because non-muslims let them. That's all there is to it.

And I'll bet PriceHarry's predictions will come true.

@ Kaffir Boy (December 6, 2004 08:23 PM): all football supporters have some names to define their own clan; some call themselves ‘super Jews’, others call themselves ‘super farmers’ and there are many more of those names. When hooligans meet each other, they will SOMETIMES call the name of the opposite team and combine it with the word ‘cancer’ (I dont know why). For example ‘cancer cockroaches’, ‘cancer farmers’ and since the sups of Ajax call themselves Jews, some hooligans call those supporters ‘cancer Jews’. Those hooligans use really bad words and it can hurt lots of people, but the intention isn’t to discriminate Jews. The problem is hooligans don’t think about what they say, they are lot of times just very stupid people.

The hooligans of the Amsterdam still call themselves ‘super Jews’, though the city is almost Islamic now (42% is Muslim). Israeli flags can only be showed when Ajax plays or a group of Ajax supporters walk together with a flag, though Muslim youngsters prefer to burn Israeli flags as well do they spit on Jewish people who wear a kipa, yarmulka (dont know what the usual name is).

Posted by: Nordthiad [TypeKey Profile Page] at December 7, 2004 8:09 PM

Also, supporters of Feyenoord (or any other dutch footballclub) will never use israeli flags, since that flag is in the world of football the symbol of their archenemy Ajax. It's almost like you ask christians to wear islamic symbols. So, the supporters of Ajax tainted the Israeli flag a bit in a bad manner. That's why the dutch jewish organ called CIDI doesn't like it when supporters use symbols of Israel of the Jews.
