With Germany and all of Europe facing a huge and growing problem of large numbers of unassimilated Muslim immigrants streaming into the country and growing at a rate far faster than the native population, the German Parliament has finally decided to act decisively and limit immigration ... of Jews.

BERLIN - The German parliament's Home Affairs Committee said on Wednesday that Jewish immigration from the former Soviet Union should continue, but urged de facto limits by calling for migrants to undergo German language tests and checks on their employment qualities.Dieter Wiefelspuetz, the committee spokesman from Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder's Social Democrats (SPD), said that in the future there would have to be a stronger emphasis on integration for Jews arriving in Germany.
"There should still be Jewish immigrants in the future," he said.
The German government is seeking hammer out a deal on limiting Jewish immigration with Germany's 16 Laender, the federal states, and the country's Central Council of Jews, which is wary about any restrictions.
Agreement on a new Jewish immigration law may not be achieved until summer given that the government wants a green light from the Central Council of Jews. Among criteria being considered to cut Jewish immigration are imposing language tests and an employability ranking system.
In the meantime, some 27,000 Jews who have already applied and received a green light to come to Germany will be admitted under the old regulations, officials say.

All I can say is that IT MAKES NO SENSE. I am all for immigration control. But to limit Jewish people from entering Germany is bizarre considering the real threat to Europe at the hans of Moslem immigration.
The only positive thing is that if they dare limit Jewish immigration, than they surely can limit Moslem immigration. That is a religious group can be excluded.
My suggestion is that Europe limit and restrict Moslem immigration now, not Jewish. They should be begging Jews and indeed all non-Moslems to enter their country. The fact that they won't dare do so with regard to the Mohammedans is strange.
No matter, there's always Turkey with it's 70 million faithful just waiting for that EU passport.

Andrew: Ending Muslim immigration is good and should be done. But there are already too many Muslim in Europe for the momentum to stop. It's too late to avoid war and armed conflict. We have to concentrate on winning.

Many Jews from the former Soviet Union are multi-lingual, speaking English and other European languages and tend also to be fairly educated. I expect they also integrate into German society quite nicely.
But what kind of test will the Germans apply to Muslim applicants and what potential for integration do they, typically have? Or is Germany so overwhelmed by the burden they are now enmeshed in (listen to English language broadcasts from Deutche Velle)

When I logged on and saw the headline, I thought: "The Germans have come to their senses and are desperate to keep Jews from leaving for safer pastures." Then I read the article and I just have to shake my head.

People of ALL races, cultures, religions, and nationalities are moving to Germany. Many of them (most??) are not bothering to learn German language and culture. I have a problem with muslims, as they DO NOT want to assimilate wherever they go.
I would definately hate to see Germany become another Holland. You don't need to learn Dutch in Holland at all. English will do quite nicely......

That maybe the tactic, but this is equivalent to shutting gates after the enemy is already within.
The problem now is to reverse the tide of muslim immigration. There are many ways this can be done. This can be done by making the West uncomfortable for muslims. At this moment in time, islam is getting a very bad press in the UK. On somedays there are three or four newspapers with highly critical articles on islam. It would not surprise me that muslims feel that they are under the hammer.
Meanwhile Tony Blair's party is pandering to muslims in the hope of picking up some votes. But Blair must be aware, that in so doing he may well lose a lot more votes from the general public. In any case, muslims must also be aware, that trusting in a politician's promise is very naive, particularly one as slippery as Blair. In fact, the Chancellor, Gordon Brown, is himself wondering how he could have accepted Tony Blair at his word.
