Jihadists Act to Suppress Dutch Film and Art Show

Even the New York Times (Walter Duranty, Executive Editor) can't help but take notice. From "Militant Muslims Act to Suppress Dutch Film and Art Show" (thanks to Anthony for the link):

PARIS, Jan. 30 - Can angry young Muslims dictate what is and is not acceptable in the traditionally open-minded world of Dutch arts? In the last few weeks, it appears, the answer has been yes.

The Netherlands' main film festival, now going on in Rotterdam, canceled a showing of a short documentary denouncing violence against Muslim women that was made by Theo van Gogh, who was killed 10 weeks ago. An Islamic militant is accused of the crime.

The film's producer said he had pulled the film on the advice of the police after receiving threats.

At about the same time, a Moroccan-Dutch painter went into hiding after a show of his work opened on Jan. 15 at a modern art museum in Amsterdam. The museum director said the painter, Rachid Ben Ali, had received death threats linked to his satirical work critical of violence by Islamic militants.

The two incidents have reinforced fears among many Dutch that fast-growing non-Western immigration is having a negative impact on social attitudes in the Netherlands. Newspaper columnists and members of Parliament have warned in recent days that if people capitulated to intimidation, they would only encourage Islamic militants.

Some have pointed to the recent events as signs that militants are trying to impose their agenda and are undermining the constitutional right to free speech in the Netherlands. A few people have quietly asked if self-censorship might be acceptable to keep the social peace.

They're getting bolder, all over the world. Nothing short of the death of Western civilization will appease them. They're like an infection. We must cut them out.

Hitler tried to ban modern art,(Bauhause surreaalists etc) he found threatenng to his mission, he tried to relace it with dreary Nazi imagry. He also called the artists and jews degenerates claiming they were mentally ill and a lower species, sounds familiar hey.

In turn of course this art became famous,His "degenerate"(intended to humiliate artists) exhibition was over run with facinated veiwers, we should post Theo's work as widley as possible, has anyone got copies of Submission

Cheers

"A few people have quietly asked if self-censorship might be acceptable to keep the social peace."

This is what it boils down to, doesn't it? Muslims have shown they will be violent if they don't like something. Kill, even. So everybody says to themselves, oh, we better appease them so they leave us alone. But where does it end? What other rights and freedoms will be destroyed, to appease these savages?

The only valid response to these threats against the show would have been for a large military and police presence. A show of might, that would have said "here in Holland, we have freedom of expression. Threaten it, and you'll be dealt with severely." That's the only way to deal with these brainwashed barbarians out of the Dark Ages. When the West capitulates, it pumps them up, emboldens them, and encourages future threats, not deter them.

Is the Rijksmuseum burning?

I get the feeling that in the not too distant future, something really nasty is going to happen somewhere in Europe between Muslim immigrants and locals - and it will seriously crank up the tension. The disgraceful Salman Rushdie affair in 89' was a wake up call largely ignored. The Theo Van-Gogh murder just another in a long line of outrages. The astonishing thing is the tolerance of the Europeans. Maybe they are suffering from post-imperialist guilt, or swimming in the uncertain waters of cultural-relativism - where they will surely drown. But their tolerance has limits.
And I sometimes depair when reading of the stupidity of people. The west has achieved high standards of living, peace, stability and freedom but do we protect such precious things? No, most people, ignorant of history and the world around them either ignore the blindingly obvious threat from Islam or are too dumb to know any better. Others actively encourage them. For example, how can some western women, enjoying their relatively recent equality with men, ignore the insulting, violent menace that is Islam? Feminists express outrage when a woman is refused membership to an exclusive men-only Country Club in America but remain silent as criminals in Iran (Mullahs), publicly execute women and girls. Go figure.
