While UK papers are largely given over to an irenic picture of British Muslims happily accepting the nature of society in which they live — while even the New York Times knows that the jihadists of Al-Muhajiroun was Britain's largest Muslim group before it went underground — at least some letter-writers are not so cowed. Here is a letter in the Express & Star about a new mosque project (thanks to Twostellas):
The prospect of a giant Islamic mosque with a 200ft minaret towering over the centre of Dudley will not be in keeping with the character of the town, and will raise many fears that it will attract Jihad elements who oppose infidels sharing their premises. Many will see this proposal as a sprat to catch a mackerel to further the goal of an Islamic Britain. If the project goes ahead I wonder how long it will be before we hear of "Porcelain Pig" incidents, as occurred in Leicester?
This refers to a notorious incident in which police asked a family in Leicester to remove porcelain pig figurines from its window, because of complaints of passing Muslims. This story doesn't seem to be on the web, but it appeared in at least one British paper.
Will butchers be told not to display pork in their windows? No doubt glamour girl posters will be barred and so on.

I won't repeat my posts from just before Christmas, about the massive mosque built on the site of a modest Victorian synagogue that now overshadows my parent's grave.
Just to say that I no longer feel at home when I visit my home borough.

About the Porcelein Pigs Affair... It was apparently reported first by the Sun, but then "The Times" and even "Le Monde" also echoed this event... It was in May 1998; for those interrested, info can be found on http://artsweb.bham.ac.uk/bmms/1998/05May98.html

Thanks for that link Pistache. When this incident cropped up on Dhimmiwatch before I had not heard of it. I still cannot find an on-line report of the islamic complaint about the English pub with a pig name though.

I don't remember that one ; I remember the one about Derby Florentine Boar statue, and it seems someone here commented on a complain about the "Turk's head" pub... I also found some story about a car park named "Porking Yard", close to a mosque in Bristol, and named/owned by a pub (see http://www.urban75.net/vbulletin/archive/index.php/t-95705.html and http://bristol.indymedia.org/newswire/display/19512/index.php)
Anyway, I'm beginning to collect those stupid but meaningful little events/signs (I began when I realised that, in some malls in Brussels, St Nicolas - "ancester" of the Santa Claus character, who brings gifts to children in early december and is supposedly a bishop - is now without its cross...)
(By the way, great nickname! I should have thought of it! ;-))

The new mosque sounds fantastic, but is it big enough? I can't wait for the wailing to start at 5 in the morning, it can only be a matter of time surely, and after all, it would be their cultural right and let's hope no bigots red-necks and rascists object to being woken to the glorious sound of the call to prayer.

In Canada a large number of Somali Muslims moved into a apartment complex and quickly demanded the owner ban tenants from having dogs since they would be forced to bathe if touched by one of them.
Not too sure if having a bath is a bad thing in Somalia but dog owners got even by re-naming their dog "Moe-ham-med" and showed the Muslims
what life is like outside of Islamic dictatorships.
Oh so sweet.

Another silly complaint I recall is islamic objections to a local police dog named Ali. Ali was some relative of Mohamed and they felt that respect was not being shown.
That Ali is a common diminuitive of the ancient and still popular British names Alistair and Alison did not seem to have occured to them. This was reported in the newspapers at the time but, again, I am unable to substantiate the report with an on-line link.
And so to bed...

I just finished reading a fascinating article about "white flight" in merry old England.
Maybe the Brits aren't voicing their concerns as they watch London and other large cities in Britain turn into third-world slums; they're moving as far from the immigrant-infested cities as possible without fleeing the country.
Here's the article and it is very interesting:
