"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion..."

Our State Department is asking for grant proposals for "Islam: Scholarship and Practice in the United States" (thanks to Diana):

Executive Summary:

The Office of Citizen Exchanges of the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs, U.S. Department of State, announces an open competition for one grant to support an international exchange project under the rubric "Islam: Scholarship and Practice in the United States." Public and private non-profit organizations or consortia of such organizations meeting the provisions described in Internal Revenue Code section 26 USC 501(c)(3) may submit proposals to develop and implement a multi-phased exchange involving the travel of scholars and clerics from Egypt, Jordan, and one or more additional countries of the Middle East to the United States and of reciprocal visits to the Middle East by American scholars of religion, scholars of Islamic studies, and clerics.

The initiative "Islam: Scholarship and Practice in the United States" will support an international exchange of scholars and clerics - influential and recognized for their ability to communicate, either in scholarly writing or through sermons - from Egypt, Jordan, and one or more additional countries of the Middle East selected at the discretion of the applicant and included with strong and persuasive programmatic justification. Libya and Iran are not eligible for participation in this exchange. The objectives of the exchange are 1) to enhance the non-American participants' understanding of the place of religion, particularly Islam, in American life; 2) to broaden participants' awareness of and appreciation for the serious religious study conducted in the United States particularly the study of Islam; 3) to provide a forum for examination and discussion of the compatibility of religious practice and democratic social and political structures; the social benefits produced by mutually respectful coexistence among diverse religious communities; ways in which Islamic practice in the United States, in particular, functions in a multi-cultural, multi-religious context; and 4) to broaden the understanding of American scholars, clerics, and laypersons of the place of Islam in the societies of the Middle East.

The project, to be conducted over a period of 18 to 24 months, will involve several exchange visits. Initially, one or two American scholars/project organizers will travel to the Middle East region to become familiar with institutions and communities in those countries and with individuals who might serve as advisers or be selected as participants in the project and to gain their interest in the exchange. Subsequently, approximately 12 Middle Eastern scholars and clerics will travel to the United States for a period of three to four weeks. The Middle Eastern participants will visit Islamic centers, consult with American Muslim scholars and clerics, visit and become familiar with libraries and archives of Islamic documents, participate in discussions at religious and secular institutions that represent America's guarantee of human dignity and freedom of worship, and participate in workshops and seminars, both public and at institutions dedicated to scholarship and research. Finally, a group of American scholars and clerics will travel to the region, meet with counterparts, visit institutions, and, ideally, cooperate with participants in the original U.S. visit in presenting a seminar, a series of workshops, etc. in order to expand the network of individuals directly affected by the exchange. This series of visits would then be repeated in the following year...

Samuel Adams:"The liberties of our country, the freedom of our civil Constitution, are worth defending at all hazards; and it is our duty to defend them against all attacksWe have received them as a fair inheritance from our worthy ancestors: they purchased them for us with toil and danger and expense of treasure and blood, and transmitted them to us with care and diligence. It will bring an everlasting mark of infamy on the present generation, enlightened as it is, if we should suffer them to be wrested from us by violence without a struggle, or to be cheated out of them by the artifices of false and designing men.".

It would be more fun if they would give away free knives to muslims for throat slitting of infidels.
Acceptance of rape of infidel women.
Lessons on the acceptance of dhimmitude and payment of jizya.
Include courses on the fine art of wife-beating too.

Bend over dhimmi sheeple of the United States of America. This is your tax dollars at work. Some 'brilliant' intellectual over at the State Department is going to change a 2000 year old religion. Riiiighhtt. Never underestimate the blind ambition of a bureaucrat.

This is money which would be better spent on munitions.

BTW this is how it goes in what may possibly in the most `moderate` muslim country in the world - Malaysia:

`Non-Malays living in the vicinity of mosques in Kuala Lumpur hear this call to arms against the non-Muslims through high-pitches megaphones often enough to be dismissed as untrue. I suspect Dr Yusof is annoyed a Muslim has spilled the beans; if a non-Muslim had done so, he could be ignored. Perhaps Dr Yusof should also tell us if Christmas carols mentioning Jesus should be banned at a Christmas party organised by the government. Was there a ban? Of course there was. Father OC Lim, who questioned it, is too senior in the Roman Catholic Church, and not a high Muslim cleric, to shoot his mouth off.`
AND
`Dato' Seri Najib kicked the ball first to insist to insist none should openly debate if Muslims could slander the followers of other religions,`

http://www.mggpillai.com/article...e.php3? sid=2049
`Dato' Seri Najib is the Deputy Prime Minister there.

And the State Dept. believes it knows more about Islam than the muslims. Lord, what biight sparks they must be.

Your guide into the dark mind of Mohammed:

The bizarre circumstances of Mohammed's "revelations": "it was a painful sight to behold the nervousness of his features, the distortion of his countenance and the anxiety of mind portrayed on his face"

How worldly ambition gradually blinded Mohammed's mind and overwhelmed his early searches for the true God

How Mohammed borrowed many of his ideas of Paradise from contemporary Jews and Christians -- and mixed them with base and lewd imaginings

How Mohammed again and again justified his rapine and licentiousness with new "divine revelations"

Why Mohammed grew so bitter against both Jews and Christians, after initially courting their favor

Mohammed's fateful order that all churches and synagogues in his domains be demolished

How Mohammed ordered the assassinations of several of his chief opponents

How even Mohammed's replies to his critics in the Koran are insufficient to refute the charge that he was a false prophet who fabricated revelations

Why Mohammed adopted -- and later discarded -- many Jewish customs and ritual observances

Islamic tolerance: Mohammed let Jews and Christians live in his domains -- if they paid tribute and accepted second-class status

What the Koran really teaches about Christianity and Christ

What Mohammed learned from heretical Christian sects -- and incorporated into the Koran

The early history of Islam: just as bloody as the life of its founder

How the Koran doesn't limit Muslims to four wives, as is widely believed, but actually sets no real limit

Why the new religion Mohammed taught became so commonly identified with war and politics

The crisis caused in Islam by the death of Mohammed's only son -- which continues to this day

Sunnis, Shiites, Sufis, Motazalites and more: the differences between the various Muslim sects

Suckers!

Waste of time & money. It will result in more academic idiots and would be ME 'experts' on Saudi expense accounts to lecture us about "ISLAM'- like John Esposito...

Ward Churchill comes to mind...

The taxpayers of the United States have little recourse to challenge wasteful government spending - but in the case of the government "establishing" religion through the use of government funds, taxpayers *do* have recourse through the courts.

This grant should be challenged as a violation of the First Amendment as soon as the submission period is over (the case might not yet be ripe). The "clerics" aspect of the program would appear to violate the establishment clause, although the taxpayer might get stuck paying for the "scholar" transfer.

We were led to believe that Rice would bring clarity of thought and understanding to Foggy Bottom.
Is it possible that this is the President's foreign policy that State is representing?

Posted by: Cynic [TypeKey Profile Page] at May 5, 2005 9:42 AM

Unbelievable, totally unbelievable. How is this possible? Who are the idiots in the State Department (or in the White House) that are going along with this foolish enterprise?

Europeans sold out because the Muslim world "guaranteed the oil supply dependent upon solving the Palestinian problem" favorable to Islam. Now that Europe has capitulated, the U.S. is the next target.

The billboard campaign for dhimmitude is important. The struggle is on more than one front. Be aware that we all need to put our efforts into informing demonstrating the consequences of this policy, and we must make them listen! Excuse me, I know that I'm shouting, but we must be effective.

Only the most gormless idiot would believe that this program won't be abused the way Jewish members of the ISM/PSM used the generosity of Jewish philanthropists who endowed the "Birthright" program to pay the travel expenses of young Jews who wished to see Israel and used the money so they could go and engage in the same kind of activities as Rachel Corrie -- helping out the arms smugglers, suicide bombers, etc..

The European Union countries have been getting islamized from "top to bottom": from academia, diplomacy and Govt agencies to the untenured (less corrupted) masses; the development of this post is one step taken by America in the same suicidal direction of dhimmitude.

But our best hope is the plain American people: let's recall that America was founded by individuals fleeing the old Europe, spurred by their yearn for freedom.

Let's keep on breathing free.

Yes, it is unreal. The LLL and the muslims will conquer us from the inside friends. I am just about fed up with my Republican party and I'm looking into the Southern Party of Georgia as an alternative. If L'tarians would drop their insane ( IMHO)" legalize drugs" ideals I'd go with them.

Thanks for the warning about the infiltration. Time to go out and buy another firearm I guess.

Remember the movie "Poltergeist"? The teenaged daughter comes home to things rocking and rolling, ghosts and dangers all over the place. She screams, "WHAT'S HAPPENING!??!"

Those are the words I am screaming now!

Utterly incoherent: by the nature of the grant description only certain kinds of 'scholars' will be eligible, namely, the John Esposito, MESA variety on the American side. But bias is a small sin compared to threats to national security.

And so American taxpayers will pay $300,000 to bring clerics from a place like Egypt, one of the most virulent, anti-American, Islamic hotbeds of the world, to the United States? To do what? To spread 'understanding' of Islam around like MSAs (Muslim Student Associations) throughout this country, MSAs, whose members have shown the same two-faced, 'I love you in English. I hate you in Arabic', treachery of Mahdi Bray?

Homeland Security should investigate this; and if these grants are not terminated and the parties responsible fired, the State Department will be complicit in a program that may provide opportunity to dangerous ideologues who hate America and wish to do American citizens harm.

Just shut it down.

JTF: quite right. Public amity; private enmity.

But Prettybird, what's that you say? "Got Dhimmi?
find the cure here.."

Well, Ibrahim Hooper thinks he has the cure:

[FADE FROM BLACK]

[A COUPLE LYING IN BED. THE WIFE IS CLEARLY UNABLE TO SLEEP, TOSSING AND TURNING. HUSBAND TURNS TO HER.]

HUSBAND: What's wrong, honey?

WIFE: Oh, it's this darn islamophobia! It's got me up all night and I just can't sleep.

HUSBAND: [chuckles] Well, I told you not to read those jihadic verses from the Quran and all that al-Bukhari before bedtime!

WIFE: [pouting] Now I'm too nauseated and horrified at the true underlying nature of islam to get any sleep! Oh, it's no use! The things Ibraham Hooper and his gang have said in the past keep sticking in my head.

HUSBAND: [scratches chin] 'Sticking in your head', eh? Wait a minute, hon - I think I've got just the thing.

[BATHROOM, AT MIRROR SINK. WIFE IS HOLDING BOX.]

WIFE: What's this?

HUSBAND: Why, it's New 'CAIR-All', the new product from CAIR. They guarantee that it cures even the most lingering islamophobia and other stomach upset - and it's got 100% of your daily recommendation of lead!

WIFE: Wow! How do I take it? [Fills a glass and puts two tablets in her hand]

HUSBAND: [chuckles heartily] No, no, hun - it doesn't go in from THAT end. [chuckles again]

[ELAPSED CLOCK SHOWS FIVE MINUTES' PASSED TIME]

HUSBAND: How do you feel now, honey?

WIFE: [drooling slightly] No more islamophobia. Support the umma. Islam is not meant to be second to any religion in the land.

HUSBAND: And Ibrahim Hooper?

WIFE: [still drooling] Ibrahim Hooper is the kindest, warmest, bravest, most wonderful human being I've ever known in my whole life.

HUSBAND: [big grin] That's right, honey - new and improved CAIR will take away all your legitimate concerns over violent islamofascist politics and put them...well...somewhere, anyway. We don't really know where! And who cares?

WIFE: [carrying on as if to self] And yet, somewhere in the back of my mind, something tells me it's not true.

HUSBAND: Ok, honey, that's great. So buy new all-improved 'CAIR-All' and let your concerns about islam wash away like the blood in an Afghani soccer stadium.

WIFE: [background] It isn't as if Hooper's hard to like. He's IMPOSSIBLE to like. In fact, he's probably one of the most repulsive human beings I've ever known in my whole life.

[HUSBAND RUSHES TO COVER WIFE'S MOUTH AS SCREEN FADES QUICKLY TO 1-800 NUMBER]

[DISEMBODIED ANNOUNCER: So buy New and improved 'CAIR-All'. Available at drugstores, local public schools, universities and everywhere else reasoned debate has been suppressed by incipient legal action. Buy before stocks run out and the government is forced to lock you up for your own benefit!]

[SECOND DISEMBODIED ANNOUNCER: Inshallah, side-effects may include misplaced anger, self-importance, antisemitism, general intolerance and nausea. Do not operate heavy machinery or explosives after taking New 'CAIR-All'. Women should wear protective cloth head-shields and have half the human value of men.]

back to the matter at hand...This State Department grant proposal needs to have wider distribution. Perhaps forwarding it on to, say, Dennis Miller, The Wall Street Journal, Bill O'Rielly (any others ?)would get the word out about this (assinine waste of taxpayer money) pretty fast.

Perhaps this could be a topic for Mr. Spencer guest hosting the Laurie Roth radio show on Friday as well.

Because the State Department is behind this it will pass, and the ACLU will do nothing.

Alaska~ *nods* separation of Church and state is fine with the ACLU.

Separation of mosque and state is just promoting tolerance and multi-culturalism.

Curiously missing in this grant application that is so full of the usual bureaucratic red tape which cost more than the grant itself, is no specific reference to Saudia Arabia. Given all the requirements one would think that they could have taken an extra few moments to be more specific in the naming of possible participating Islamic countries. No doubt the reference to Saudia Arabia was left out, or conveniently exempted (given a pass)due to its virulent and antisemitic intolerant attitude towards any other religion than its home bread Islamic ideology of waahabism.

Posted by: Mackie [TypeKey Profile Page] at May 5, 2005 4:52 PM

I read some of the fine print regarding the application process. Quite a gauntlent of prerequisites, provisos, and quid pro quos. Who besides C.A.I.R can qualify for these federal grants, I wonder.

As if we don't have enough illegal imams in the U.S. doing this same deception by teaching already?

Everyone should email the gist of this proposal to the leadership and protest it as a tax and spend boondoggle.

Something like"

Dear Mr. President,

When homeland security is already overtaxed, and the American people are CERTAINLY over taxed, I have just heard of a money-wasting and futile boondoggle by the geniuses in the State Department who are trying to help spread Islam to the United States with a grant proposal to bring Muslim 'scholars' to our land, paid for by me. I find this not only redundant, since there are hundreds of thousands of illegal Muslims already in our country, but inane and insulting.

I request that you stop this absurd waste of my tax dollars and tell the State Department to cease trying to fund and foster a faith that is antithetical to our Bill of Rights.

Is there nothing better to do with out tax dollars?

I would prefer it went to fund Headstart or prenatal health screenings, and let Islam take care of itself. With the price I'm paying at the pump, they are swimming in shekels.

Yours,
