Many would argue that some of the comments made by these two pillars of the community are part of the reason why the American public has such a negative perception of Islam. Is it now, or has it ever been appropriate for Islamic immigrants in the United States to make the cocky, outlandish statements that these two have made in public, and then turn around and play the namby-pamby victims of bigotry when Americans confront them on it?

People in this country don't fear Islam; those who concocted the fake description "Islamophobia" should stop flattering themselves, thinking that they've instilled fear into the American people.
American sentiment doesn’t involve fear. Muslim militants and their apologists are more comparable to gnats in a Port-a-John. Simply put, Americans lead very busy lives, and we'd rather spend time with our families and friends, enjoying life in our country without having to keep an eye on Islamic militants who are scattered around the U.S. plotting the murder of innocent people.However, since the so-called moderate Muslims have done little or nothing to eject militant Islamists from their own community, it's been left up to us to clean up this mess, making sure that some of these problem children don't take innocent American lives while they send themselves to hell.
Whether groups like CAIR will admit it or not, there are Muslim fanatics among us who are either brainwashed enough, or just plain dumb enough to believe that if they murder all of us "infidels", they'll go to some sort of paradise and receive a reward of virgins to have sex with.
And they call us the ignorant ones.
Immigration to the United States has given millions the opportunity to better their lives by living in the most developed nation on earth. Immigration should not be a pass to come here and attempt to tear down everything this country was founded upon. Americans have gotten along quite well for two hundred and twenty nine years without any Islamic political influence. So instead of whining to the Dhimmis at U.S. State Department about “Islamophobia” in the United States, perhaps CAIR should explain to us how they've come to the conclusion that Americans are practicing bigotry against Muslims. Here is some evidence that there is no such bigotry: the average annual income per Muslim household in America is nearly $70,000, which is well above the national average. What is it in the Middle East, $700? If the American people wish to express their unhappiness with the fact that our government has made the decision to allow massive immigration to the United States from the Middle East and parts of Africa, without sufficiently identifying and weeding out the substantial criminal element inside the Islamic community, they have the right to do so.For groups like CAIR, especially after September 11, to name-call and label Americans as racists and bigots because they are simply exercising their right to free speech in criticizing Islam and Muslims is nothing short of asinine.
Americans constantly hear that we “just don’t understand Islam”. I hate to be the one to break it to you, but there’s no need for us to understand Islam. It’s not our responsibility to understand any culture but our own. It’s very simple: obey American laws, respect the dress codes, uniforms, rules and regulations of the companies that employ you or the schools in which you’re enrolled, and respect the wishes of your American hosts. Then you won't have a problem.
Perhaps it’s Muslims who don't understand us. They moved here for a reason. If they’re going to continue to be a high maintenance liability, expecting special treatment because they’re Muslim, they still have much to learn about living here. This is America. Equal treatment for everyone and special treatment for no one -- and this includes them.
Americans are kind-hearted and generous, but we owe Islam nothing. If Muslims want special treatment for simply being Muslims, then they should migrate back to an Islamic nation. Otherwise, they should realize that they’ll never have it better anywhere else in the world, stop squawking and complaining like overrated divas, and be grateful to the United States for the opportunities they’ve had bestowed upon them.
Are Islamic organizations operating inside our borders honestly trying to tell us that Muslims aren’t committing the overwhelming majority of terrorist acts around the world? The following is a list of Muslim militants and convicted criminals. This is a list that certain Islamic groups had hoped Americans would never gain access to. Here are examples of what the Muslim community in America has produced and injected into the heart of our nation. Is it possible that any of these names will be mentioned at the "Islamophobia” Conference"? Or is this list of Muslim criminals just a mirage?

CAIR are leading the American people up the garden path into iniquity. The above Deputy Prime Minister of Malaysia holds a much more exalted position than any of CAIR`s leaders and a better e.g. of what true Islam is.
Ibrahim Hooper is a LIAR. And by extension the whole leadership of CAIR.
They are apostates and should be stoned to death by their muslim brethren.

Hmmmm....how very interesting. On May 14, also in the Washington DC area, is a rally by a group calling itself FreeMuslims, a "moderate" group whose organizer is a former lawyer for A. Alamoudi, once a prominent American/Muslim leader who now sits in jail. I wonder if a power play is taking place and I wonder who will emerge as "the voice" for American Muslims? On the contrary, Islam as an ideology is TOTALLY contrary to Western and American values.
Islam is NOT a religion, it is totalitarian political ideology that should not be allowed to gain a foothold in our country.
Muslims are either: (1) ignorant of the true nature of Islam, in which case they are stupid, and not be given any rights. How bright do you have to be to read the Qur'an to Surah 2, much less Surah 9, or to spend some time learning about the 'career' of Muhammad? or (2) lying and either (a) a sleeper waiting for the word to do something despicable or (b) a propagandist trying to seduce us into thinking that Islam is 'one of the world's great religions'.
In my book, Muslims have no rights, are followers of a belief system that makes Nazism look tame, and should be treated with suspicion and disdain.
Oh, my, goodness, I am being non-PC for calling for discrimination against Muslims! Absolutely. Let us stop worrying about their sensibilities. But I tell you what - give a Muslim a chance to understand the truth about Islam, and then a choice: LEAVE ISLAM OR LEAVE AMERICA.
How many times do we have to hear that we 'don't understand Islam, need to know Arabic, just look at the Koran and not the Hadith, need to be a scholar', etc? Using that criteria, 90% of the world's Muslims would be disqualified, and that is the way the imams, mullahs, clerics and jihadists want it. The word umma(h) means the 'unschooled, the unknowing' as opposed to the ulema, which means the learned.
To allow a growing population of submissive sheep who have been trained to do what they are told by their clerics is insanity. Substitute 'Nazi' for Muslim in any sentence where you read about the 'peaceful' or 'moderate' Muslims, and this should be clear.

Watson has hit upon something very true: Americans have no obligation to "understand" or "maintain" a foreign culture. It is incumbent upon them to understand and integrate into our culture. Those they haven't been able to do so routinely return to their countries of origin. Obviously Muslims want to take over and force Islam on America.

epg, same for Australians, and everyone else. We're all sick and tired of this constant whining from Muslims about us needing to understand them. These interfaith dialogues, these forums and panels and blah blah blah blah blah! Nobody else requires such constant attention and mollycoddling. The Buddhists just carry on quietly, as does everyone else. And that's the way it should be.

I think that CAIR's use of "Islamophobia" is a carefully chosen tactic designed to advance the view that opponents of Islam are irrational ignorant bigots. This term can then be used as a weapon to discredit critics by pointing to supposedly peaceful, hardworking, honest, quiet, mosque-going immigrants. "See there's nothing to fear; they're people just like us!" So, CAIR might hope to marginalise critics of Islam without addressing the criticisms. It's an plan for a smear campaign, eh?
Interestingly, Islamic groups have been working to create solidarity with other groups which decry supposed "racism" and "bigotry". You'll find Muslim groups joining with (hispanic) pro-amnesty groups.
As you point out Robert, Muslim groups such as CAIR are exploiting the diversity/multiculturalism nonsense advanced by the Left and embraced by many on the alleged Right. Americans are being told they must accommodate the differences of every immigrant group rather than telling immigrants that they must adapt to American society and assimilate.
Ultimately, of course, muslims want to establish sharia in the U.S. This means social and political revolution and the overthrow of everything we consider American. One can't imagine a more dangerous nest of vipers....

CAIR is using the same advancement techniques that the liberal left used in the 70's.
When you look at their speeches, their protests, what they stage, how they say it...., none of it is original!
CAIR sees how the liberal left advanced into the American household and did'nt gain a footing, they built a foundation. So now CAIR is using it too.
They use the PC movement in the term "Islamaphobia" instead of "homophobia", people have been brainwashed into treading lightly with "phobia" attached at the end. But just as DC Watson pointed out above there is nothing to fear and we don't have to learn or accept the other lifestyle.
Look out how they have used the American Educational System, with the help of a silent ACLU (just as in the 70's). Anytime someone pops up their head to say anything the ACLU takes the shot.
Also, CAIR saying that there are souring hate crimes agains muslims. This was another technique in the 70's to get media attention and to be a "victim".
Look out how the media completly sides with CAIR, again the advancement of the same liberal tool from the 70's.
Basically, you have a old 1970's van with flowers painted on the side that was used by the communist, pot smoking, homosexual advancing, anti christian, UN loving groups. The van has been sitting in the side yard with weeds growing under it. The groups did not want to get rid of the van, because as a tool it got them to go everywhere they wanted to go.
But now muslims want to borrow the van. Surprising, it starts on the first turn, it still has a full tank of gas, and the tires are in great shape. This thing is going to get going with the help of our flower friends. We only have to change one thing, the van needs a new paint job "cresant moon and star" on the side.
Compare a majority of the headlines from the 70's to CAIR's media releases. Alot of them are real similar.

Great, hard-hitting article DC Watson!
I think the American people are getting sick and tired of the whining done by CAIR and the like. The constant carnage on the news perpetrated by Islamic terrorists is, I believe, beginning to shift Americans' perceptions about Islam.
Out of curiosity, I recently visited several political blog websites to gauge their reactions to Islam. What I read indicated a decidedly negative perception of Islam.
I think the nightly news parade of watching Islamic suicide bombers reduce innocent civilians to bits is shifting the American perception of Islam from the "religion of peace" to the "religion of pieces".

The liberals greased the wheels for islam. Isn’t the left wonderful? They are so nice, so compassionate, so understanding and tolerant of all the world’s cultures and religions (all except America and its Judeo-Christian origin and all who have any patriotism). Patriotism, the left laughs at such an outdated, fuddy duddy belief.
The commies that did this, hate America and want it destroyed. They are about half way to their goals. Corrupting the young through “multiculturalism” is one way they are doing this. Exp. American history is given the same equal study time as the history of foreign countries but with a positive spin on the later and a negative spin on the former. The students don’t have an identity of their own culture. They are taught that their own culture is nothing but equal to any other culture, except that American culture is the worst.
The only reason the left doesn’t like islam is that they see islam as a competitor for power, that’s all. Not that they want to protect the American culture or heritage. They are doing all they can to destroy it and don’t want muslims to come along and take away all their hard work.
Both of these anti-American ideologies must be destroyed. Eradicate islam, silence all radical muslims deport any non assimilating muslims and promote a pro-American counter cultural revolution. If not, America will no longer be first in the world. Look for China to take over. The left probably thinks that would be cool.
PS: I agree with all posts on this thread, so far.
O/T, CAIR is a corrupt, criminal, terrorist organization that continues to exist by the skin of their legal teeth. They are hanging on by a thread and the FBI and CIA are holding the scissors.

DC Watson has enough skill in the public forum to make him worth looking at as a candidate for some kind of public office.
There are enough elections going on at any given time in the great state of Ohio to get him in and running for something, not entirely so he can win but at least to give him some practice and to build up a constituency.
Getting DC Watson on a ballot somewhere will also focus our attention on the real and the practical for a change. If we have a billboard in Los Angeles we should be able to put together a campaign for a local politician in Ohio. It makes no difference if DC swins or loses the first time out. It matters that we do, and by doiing that we form a collective party of public activists.
If DC runs for public office, and if in time he's successful, then we can run another man or woman in another place. If we start small, learn from our successes and our failures, and if we focus on the realistic, then we will in time learn and become a real force. DC is a good candidate for our side, and if we unite our efforts and pool our talents on his behalf, if he's willing, we could at least educate the public in one small area of a state, from which we would gain an identiy of our own as Spencerians, and we will learn how to become a government ourselves, not simply in Ohio somewhere but across the land and even in Europe.
Governments do not fail the people: the people fail their governments. And the media? We are the media. We either take the initiative and work toward a goal or we don't, and therefore chatter and whine. I'm for voting for DC Watson.

Speaking of Islamophobia, I once took the trouble to research the supposed "hate crimes" against Muslims documented by CAIR. When you research them and find out the details, many of them turn out to be relatively minor events -- like some teenagers who threw a couple of rocks through a mosque window, etc.
My favorite was this one: a Muslim woman reported that while she was in a toy store, a man started saying rude things to her, then he threw a Mr. Potato Head doll at her. That's it. That was the "hate crime"! Her complaint got formally lodged with CAIR, and now CAIR uses that trivial event, and many like it, to beef up the numbers of a long list of "hate crimes" against Muslims.

Well said DC. I really don't understand what is going on with this rush to "understand" islam. All these so called outreach programs I keep hearing about is absolute nonsense. I am not obliged to understand islam and as a nation I certainly don't think we need to pander to every third world superstition that is washed up on these shores. It doesn't matter how these people dress things, the jig is up, islam is a backward cult of death and I really, really wish our politicians would stop patronizing us with this "islam is a religion of peace, it has been hijacked by a tiny fringe minority". That is grade "A" bovine excrement. Do our politicians think we are idiots or something ? Do they think we don't have access to the internet ?

Why not title it ---
"Islamophobia and Americanophobia: Causes and Remedies"?
or ---
"Anti-Islamism and Anti-Americanism: Causes and Remedies"?
Such a simple changing of the titles might just offer more perspective/discussion on causes and remedies this conference may have never considered (or may just want to ignore).
