Human Rights Group Says That Saudi Arabia Has Kidnapped an Indian Christian

From the Assist News Service, with thanks to Nicolei:

RIYADH, SAUDI ARABIA -- News has just become available in the West that an Indian Christian has been abducted on a street in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, and is being held incommunicado in the desert Kingdom.

This information comes from the Washington-DC based human rights group, International Christian Concern (ICC).

The man, they say, is Samkutty (Sam) Varghese, an Indian national who had traveled to Saudi Arabia on Jan 26th 2005.

"He was staying in Riyadh until his abduction off the streets by the Muttawa (Saudi religious police)," said a spokesperson for ICC. "It is being reported to us that the Muttawa approached Sam as he was waiting for friends near the city center of Riyadh on the evening of March 9th at approximately 7:00 pm. Mr. Varghese was awaiting a visa extension from the Saudi government.

"The Muttawa asked Varghese for his passport. However, he was only able to give them a copy because the Saudi government had taken his passport since he was requesting a visa extension. They then asked him what was in his bag. In his bag, he had one Bible in the Hindi language. The Muttawa then took Mr. Varghese away and there has been no communication from him since."...

The poor man's been inside for 2 months already. I have grave doubts as to whether he is still with us, or 6 feet under in an unmarked grave.

And the dog and pony show goes on unabated....

I have been commenting on this all week, but The fact is that the muttawa have arrested over 100 Christians in the past three weeks in Saudia Arabia (for some reason it seems to fall on deaf ears) and all we hear is the ranting of muslims because there may have been some desecration of the Quran. On two occasions the muttawa In Riyadh where lead and directed to homes where Christians where praying by high ranking Waahabist Sheikhs. THe mutawa broke in and arrested over 40 of them and confiscated their bibles as well. (What did they do with the bibles?) --As of last week, many relatives have not heard from their arrested family members since.

I did hear some positive news this morning on CBC radio - a possible small victory but a victory none-the-less. Apparently a British court has ruled that the Saudi government is financially liable in the case of the three Britons who were held for several years (and tortured - William Sampson was one of them). I believe the report stated something about the Saudis being at least responsible for something like $300,000 in court and/or legal fees for the three.

I can't find a link and would appreciate it someone else could post it if available.

Where's the big Newsweek cover story on this?

Oh, I guess they'd have to flush the guy or his Hindi Bible down the toilet to get noticed.

(Pretty silly to travel to Saudi Arabia, in any case, as a non-Muslim -and plain dumb to bring in a book that you know will only get you grief... yes, that infidel corrupt thing that no one is outraged our 'ally' the Saudis have 'banned'.)

BigSleep:

There's nothing that will arouse the MSM from their stupor over what is really going on out there and who really poses a threat to humanity, not even executing Muslim women accused of "adultery" by stoning.

But if a story, however flimsily supported, carries even a whiff of embarrassment for the US, it will be set in 36 pt type!
