Dhimmitude in the Columbia Encyclopedia: Qur'an revealed by God

Alec Rawls at the Error Theory blogspot has pointed out to me an appalling example of academic dhimmitude. I don't agree with his point about using "Koran" rather than "Qur'an," as I prefer the more accurate Arabic transliteration. However, what he reveals about the Columbia Encyclopedia is astonishing:

Want to see a truly sick example of al-Newsweek-like dhimmitude? Infoseek's Koran entry describes the Koran as: "Revealed by God to the Prophet Muhammad..." It does not say: "Believed by Muslims to be revealed by God." It says "Revealed by God." What dirtbags. I don't care if they are true-believing fundamentalist Muslims. This is an encyclopedia entry, borrowed from The Columbia Electronic Encyclopedia, 6th ed., 2005, Columbia University Press. It is supposed to state facts. The fact is that Muslims believe that the Koran is the word of God. It is NOT a fact that the Koran IS the word of God. Anyone who confuses these two is moral trash, which explains a lot about our Islamist enemy, but what explains Columbia University?
Let's see what Infoseek/Columbia says about the Bible. Ah, this is better. The first line reads:

The traditional Christian view of the Bible is that it was written under the guidance of God and that it therefore conveys truth, either literally or figuratively.

Ok, while I am always sickened by anything which confers even a whiff of legitimacy on the Islamic death cult, this problem may be more of a case of even handedness than anything else. Here's the entry for the Ten Commandments:

The Qur’an, a book written by one man in less than 22 years, full of contradictions and historical misrepresentations, yet Moslems consider this to be god’s word.
If it is the word of god, this god could neither add or subtract simple numbers, or remember what happened yesterday!!

Compare that to the Bible, a collection of 66 books written by 40 different authors over a few thousand years, yet the story has never changed.

It is mainly a plagiarisim of texts from the Old and New Testaments, but also contains folklore from Arabia, battle plans and methods for rapine, robbery and deception, and the personal ramblings and revenge fantasies of said prophet. The infoseek entry also states:

"Being the verbatim Word of God, the text of the Qur'an is valid for religious purposes only in its original Arabic, cannot be modified, and is not translatable, although the necessity for non-Arabic interpretations is recognized. This has made the Qur'an the most read book in its original language and preserved a classical form of Arabic as an Islamic lingua franca and medium of learning."

I do not read Arabic, but the last claim, that the Classical Arabic of the Qur'an serves as an "Islamic lingua franca and medium of learning" seems at the very least misleading. The Qur'an is surely one of the most 'memorized' texts in history, but how many speakers of Arabic, or even Qur'anic scholars, are fluent in the the Arabic of the Qur'an? Classical Arabic as a medium of learning? How many contemporary works are written in the Classical Arabic of the Qur'an? Also, lingua franca is a language developed for commerce and practice. How many people comminicate and do business in Classical Arabic? More grandiose pro-Islamic ideas that no one seems to have the time to critically think about.

This obscurest strategy is used to ensure that only an elite group understands the “ word of god” so that the “believers” believe only what they are told. As we have seen recently with the flushed Koran incident, it produces an easily manipulated group of people who live in fear of offending a god whose word they are incapable of understanding unless their handlers explain it to them. Their handlers are ignorant narrow minded superstitous men with an archaic world view.

Anyone who places themselves in such a situation is a willing slave (to the religious elite or their own imaginations) and quite frankly an idiot.

After reading some of the tired usual garbage many of us have come to expect,.. i just HAD to go into "FULL-ON RANT MODE"...Looks like a couple of big guns were already up on it "even if they were copy& Paste (SANCTUARY (part 1)
was of intrest....I had not seen that one.I put the site into fav in anticipation of more "biguns" ..A Fitzgerald response would be nice to see at this point.I am worried that Dhimjhonny will yank the site due to the overwhelming negative response,BUT perhaps he might "GASP" Actualy READ it???And FURTHER .........LEARN SOMETHING?????
