Univ. of Michigan: Islam is not linked to terror

Mindboggling incomprehension disguised as science from Eurekalert, "U-M study shows devotion to Islam is not linked to terror,"

ANN ARBOR, Mich.--Islam is not to blame for suicide bombings, a University of Michigan study shows.

Personal devotion to Islam is unrelated to support for suicide bombing among Palestinian Muslims, according to the study, which will be presented May 27 at the annual meeting of the American Psychological Society in Los Angeles. But the more often Muslims attended mosques, the more likely they were to support suicide terrorism.

"The frequency of suicide terrorism is growing exponentially, motivated by a fusion of religious and political goals," said Jeremy Ginges, a researcher at the U-M Institute for Social Research (ISR).

At least 70 percent of more than 300 suicide attacks that occurred between 2000 and 2003 were carried out by religiously motivated organizations, recent research by Ginges' colleague Scott Atran has shown.

"But despite the appearance of a link between religiosity and support for suicide terrorism, the nature of this connection has been unclear. My analysis shows that Islamic beliefs and devotion are not, in themselves, linked to support for such terrorism," Ginges said...

To understand how he came to this conclusion, you'll have to read it all.

This BBC article finds support for suicide bombing to be much higher than this study found:

'The June 2002 poll by the Jerusalem Media and Communications Centre showed that a large majority - nearly seven out of 10 people - supported the suicide operations, about 60% of those expressing their "strong" support.'

Not sure about the source (Jerusalem Media and Communications Centre) but it's an interesting disparity.

I suddenly have a better understanding of why they figured terrorists could cross the Canadian border by way of Lake Michigan.

Ginges is now conducting studies in the U.S. and in Israel to examine how church and synagogue attendance predict support for other kinds of self-sacrificing, altruistic behaviors among adherents of Christianity and Judaism.

Yes, let us now see if we can explain the epidemic of all those Mennonite suicide bombers.

Univ. of Michigan: Islam is not linked to terror
Univ. of Michigan: Womanhood not linked to pregnancy.
It makes about as much sense.

The study, of course, is bursting with questionable methodology, falsehoods and puzzles.

"At least 70 percent of more than 300 suicide attacks that occurred between 2000 and 2003 were carried out by religiously motivated organizations, recent research by Ginges' colleague Scott Atran has shown."

Well, what counts as a 'religiously motivated organization'? Is Al Aqsa Martrys, a branch of Fateh, 'secular' because Fateh is secular? Just one clear counterexample of a suicide bombing that was not carried out by a 'religiously motivated group' would be astounding. And, of course, groups routinely compete for credit for the attacks. Why? Because it helps recruitment. And I suppose this has nothing to do with Islamic truimphalism. But what is 'Islamic truimphalism'? This is a concept that will not show up in the study because the Palestinian group that conducted the study will reject that such a thing exists. And the constant affirmation in the Qur'an that each battlefield 'victory' for Muslim armies is a sign of divine help and approval have nothing to do with this phenomenon. Of course, not. It does not exist, after all.

The entire study is rigged to try to establish certain preferred conclusions. And what are those? Of course, any conclusion that indicates that 'Islam' has nothing to do with suicide bombings and mass murder.

Morroco, Istanbul, Beslan, Moscow, Tunisia, Kenya, Algeria, Bangledesh, Pakistan, Afganistan, Iraq, Bali, New York, Madrid, Luxor, Cairo, Sudan, Somalia, Philippines, Indonesia, India, Madrid, Washington DC...

Behold the carnage that is Islam.

And that is just recent history, and each bloody event bellows from the depths of the Qur'an, the Sunnah, and Islamic history, the bloodlust, the violent rage of the prophet of Allah, like the beheading of 700 Kurazaiah Jews in 627, whose bodies were thrown into a ditch, whose women and children were enslaved.

Hence the fate of those who would oppose the prophet and his followers who are required to surrender completely to the commands of 'Allah'.

And these guys get hired by a University?

And someone pays their salary for this 'work'?

I guess the perfect job for them is military procurement -where they can end up buying $200 hammers, $1000 toilet seats and 1" hex nuts at $40 each.

What's their next 'research' project:

The mysterious relationship between rotting meat and the sudden appearance of maggots?

Maybe 'spontaneous generation' will happen between their ears one of these days, as well.

So, U-M is a madrassah now?

Has the state of Michigan become a caliphate?
