"Arab world urges EU to impose commercial embargo on Israel," from the Israel Insider, with thanks to JDSP:
The Arab Central Boycott Office for the Boycott of Israel has called on the European Union to ban products made in Israeli settlements, arguing the dwellings were "illegal and a violation of international law and the Geneva Convention."The group also urged the European Union and other nations to pressure Israel to stop building more settlements on Palestinian territory, and to take "immediate measures to prevent Israeli settlement products from benefitting from any EU facilities or entering European markets," said Syria's delegate Ahmed al-O'datt.
O'datt said there was a need to "spread the boycott culture among Arab peoples as a noble and legitimate tool of resistance," against Israel.
The Arab Central Boycott Office for the Boycott of Israel made the statements at the end of a four-day meeting of delegates from 17 member states -- among them, representatives from Syria, Saudi Arabia, Sudan, Algeria, Bahrain, the United Arab Emirates, Yemen, Morocco, Libya, Lebanon, Kuwait, Qatar, Palestine, Oman, Somalia, Tunisia, and Iraq -- convened to discuss strengthening cooperation and coordination "to activate the popular boycott."
Founded in 1951, the once-influential Damascus office was funded by the Arab League to track down foreigners who did business with, or support Israel, to ban them from operating in the Arab world.
More than 8,500 companies and people, including Coca-Cola, the Ford Motor Co. and Elizabeth Taylor's movies were blacklisted. The actress was seen as pro-Israel after converting to Judaism...

Higher oil prices are contributing to the Mohammedan Arab's ego trip. Higher oil prices also make Iran more confident in it's quest for nuclear bombs. You feel more confident when price of your home gores up. Arabs feel more confident (arrogant) when the oil price doubles in two years.

that's a good idea - anyone know source of list of any/all islamists products/isalmists owned commercial entities (probablly not much other than oil and dates)? boycott of these is a good idea.
one thing islamists do -often- is give good info on how to defeat them - using their own games/rules

The root of the modern problem in the Middle East is the calamitously imbecilic U.N. division of Palestine/Israel. The map of the partition shows that no one could expect anything but chaos from this plan:
http://www.mideastweb.org/unpartition.htm
Why they didn't just cut the country in half- through the center of Jerusalem- with the top section going to the "Palestinians (adjacent to Lebanon) and bottom half to "Israelis" (bordering the Egyptian Sinai wasteland), to form two geographically discrete and coherent 'states' shows that there was no understanding of the nature of security or national identity. (Or was it some unspoken plot for endless war and turmoil?)
Until this is 'shape of the states' mess is solved, this will be a breeding ground for resentment, confusion and conflict.

Arabs originally made fun of partition plan and refused to even consider it.Arabs attacked Israel when it was born hence they gave up their right to have partition according to dictates of UN. Now that Israel has upper hand they r are suddenly showing support for UN plan. Smells fishy.

I have a better idea. All the Jordanians go back to Jordan, and all the neo-Egyptians go back to Egypt. (I don't call them Egyptians because they are not the Egyptians of old, but interlopers) Israel for Israelis!

The boycott of Jewish colleges in Israel appears to be over.
A boycott of Israelis goods will hurt the EU more than help it. If Chirac decides that Europe should boycott Israel, then he will tell Europe what do, I'm sure. From the results of the Constitutional vote, it looks like Europe still has a little vcommon sense.
The man is completely out of touch with reality.
I guess Chirrac was at a sort of townhall meeting when a university student asked "What are you going to do about the high unemployment rate?"
Chirac, cool as a cucumber said, "I don't understand."
What a guy

Israel is the jewish homeland, Israel to the Jews! No more compromises!
Jerusalem is the capitol of Judaism and the Mohammedans must be evicted. The mosque on the temple mount is an insult to the whole world! This is the place where Solomons temple must be rebuild. The Paleys don't belong, they have no rights whatsoever and they should be exported to Jordania, syria and egypt where they belong!

While living in Saudi Arabia we often saw beautifully plump ripe oranges in the markets that were labeled as "produce of Germany", you know, from all those vast groves of orange trees that line the Rhine. We all knew, and the vendors knew, that they were grown in Israel and merely transhipped through Germany. Like so much else in the Arab world, these so-called boycotts are just more lies.

I've never heard of the Arab Central Boycott Office. What a negative sounding institution. How disempowering to project blame and guilt for your own failings onto others who are probably more successful than you. Any positive self-help philosophy will tell you not to blame others if at all possible but to first look in the mirror for your answers. Don't give away your power and play the victim - it's a dead end road.
But isn't this the story of the Arabs in the contemporay world? It must drive them crazy to see so much freedom, success and wealth of Israel and the Jewish people while they fester and stew all around in their unfree, socially miserable, economically failed Arab States. Israel shames them. I can see them seething from here. And, can you imagine how Arab/Muslim men would feel if Arab/Muslim women were free to do as they please and many of them rejected the Muslim culture like Ayaan Hirsi Ali and chose to be with western men and the western way of life. All of their deepest fears would be realized and their failings exposed to the world. They would be unbelievably humiliated and even more violent. Is this their greatest fear?
They are blaming the success of others for their own problems. But it is failure that is to blame. And it is Envy they are projecting. Envy rather than jealousy. Jealousy being wanting what another has; envy being wanting to destroy what another has. And they will destroy the west if they can. I wonder when enough people will realize the gravity of the situation.
P.S To be honest I don't know whether the Jewish people should have reclaimed Israel or not. I'd be interested in the opinions of others on this forum. I'm an agnostic-sort-of-Deist/Pantheist in New Zealand. I remember reading once that Grand Island near Buffalo NY was offered as a Jewish State in the late 19th century, can anyone confirm that?

If I had my druthers, I would have the US adopt a ruthlessly no-nonsense policy for Israel: Expand Israel to include the entire Mesopotamian region, from the western border of Iran all the way to the Mediterranean, let a Jewish government rule over all the new Muslim population (and treat them far more fairly than their Arab rulers treat them), and watch the standard of living and enlightened democracy thrive as has not happened in centuries. Oh: also poise some you-know-whats in the direction of Mecca as an insurance policy.

This is from the DUH department. A poster at Conyer's blog thinks they have the answer to the problems in the ME and terrorism.
"I have actually better Idea which I think with Mr. Conyers help we could pull off.
Here goes: Most Americans do not have any problem with Islam. SO what I think each of us should do is sign a piece of paper that says something to the effect "I (State your name) Do not have anything against the Islamic people or their relious beliefs. In fact, I (State your name) totally respect your belief system and those who subscribe to it. So therefore, we hope that you will pass this off to your Fundamentalist brethren and let them know that we mean them no harm. And please refrain from being angry at us in the future. Furthermore, we will be sure to treat the Quran with all the dignity and repect it deserves. Just please please don't be angry at us or protest anymore we really do not want to see anyone else get hurt.
Then after we each sign the letter we can get Mr. Conyers to get them dropped over Iraq and Afghanistan. I am sure they will be read and appreciated by all. Then this whole silly mess will be over."
Dhimmi anyone?

metaxy,
Expand Israel to include the entire Mesopotamian region, from the western border of Iran all the way to the Mediterranean
Thinking out of the box. Nice. It's funny how Israel makes the desert bloom; if it were Arab land it may still remain desert. Imagine that bloom across the whole of the ME. If only these moozies were sane.

Carolyn: "Dhimmi anyone?" -- more like "Dummy".
skidd -- actually, my idea is too idealistic, unfortunately. If you think Muslims are stark-raving insane now, it's mild compared to what would happen if we expanded Israel to include more lands once conquered by Islam. It's not merely a symbolic flourish when Zarqawi named his mass-murdering organization in Iraq "Al Qaeda in the Land of the Two Rivers (Mesopotamia)". If he and his Muslim minions feel obliged to wage a rabid campaign of mass-murder against innocents (Muslims and non-Muslims) now, imagine what he would do if we gave that area over to Jewish ownership!

Since the Moon is important to Islam, and the surface is uncannily similar to most of what the Imperialistic Muslims have turned formerly fertile swaths of the globe into (AKA desert wastes), perhaps we can convince them to emigrate, en masse, to our airless satellite?
They could lord it over one another in the Sea of Tranquility (since Islam is a 'religion of peace'), and the Sunnis could battle the Shiites in 1/6th gravity, like homicidal fluttering moths.
If only we could get some imam to require it.
(Then we'd no longer need to worry about lunatics during a full moon, because we'd know right where they were.)

Big Sleep --
"and the surface is uncannily similar to most of what the Imperialistic Muslims have turned formerly fertile swaths of the globe into (AKA desert wastes)"
also craters from suicide bombs...
"perhaps we can convince them to emigrate, en masse, to our airless satellite?"
Or perhaps Mars -- named after the God of War, after all...
"(Then we'd no longer need to worry about lunatics during a full moon, because we'd know right where they were.)"
Well, eventually the lunar Muslims would blow up the Moon, putting our gravity all out of whack. We should ship them farther away -- all the way to Q'Uranus.

Leelion~ Their situation in 1946 was rather desperate at the time. I'm not sure it could have been any other way at that point.
The Grand Island idea sounds familiar... might have been along the same lines as creating Liberia. However I don't know how well they would have fared being off the coast of the Confederacy, or in the decades after the Civil War. I'm sure they would have gotten a lot of the wrong kind of attention for being there.
