A superb piece from the always superb Michelle Malkin, with thanks to EPG:
The grievance industry went into overdrive last month when burned Korans were reportedly discovered at a local mosque in southwest Virginia. The Washington-based Council on American-Islamic Relations issued an immediate press release on June 16 calling for "Americans of all faiths to obtain and read the Quran after burned copies of Islam's revealed text were found" in a shopping bag at the front door of the Islamic Center of Blacksburg.
Repent, all ye infidels!
Incensed CAIR officials contacted the FBI and pressured authorities to treat the incident as possibly "bias-related." CAIR-MD/VA Director of Civil Rights Shama Farooq lectured that "A redoubled commitment to freedom of thought and religious diversity is the best response to the burning of any sacred text" in order to "send the message that bigots do not represent our nation's values."
Not content to let CAIR get all the free publicity, other victim-card hustlers jumped aboard the burned Koran bandwagon.
Laila Al-Qatami, a spokeswoman for the American-Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee in Washington, lambasted police: "If pages from the Bible were burned and put in a bag outside a church," she huffed to the Associated Press, "I think the reaction of the police would be that it would be a hate crime."
Actually, in this country, when you dunk a crucifix in urine, that's "art," and when you hang a framed copy of the Ten Commandments inside a courthouse, that's a crime.
Read it all.

Hehe...another one. De ja vu for any politically aware Indian. Case in point: The celebrated artist/painter M.F. Hussain. His works displaying Goddesses Saraswati and Durga nude are considered works of art and representing freedom of expression. The same coward writes a poem with the word Muhammad in it which has some sexual overtones. As expected Muslim mobs rage and howl and he withdraws his whole poem/song and apologizes to the community. All those who were busy lambasting Hindu outfits for the desecration of the Goddesses were caught with Qurans in their mouths (clever? lol).

This begs the question: What is the proper way to dispose of a Koran in the Islamic tradition?

I suspect that there is more to this tale than meets the eye. Possibly the Muslim student who left the burned Koran did it on purpose for political advantage -- for the same purpose as the many false "Muslim victimization" incidents that were reported after 9-11.
Possibly the authorities were getting close to exposing this guy and he "confessed" in order to save himself -- and his religion -- the embarassment of being shown to have filed a (yet another) false report of persecution by the infidels.
But it's really a no-lose situation for the ROP. They tied up scarce infidel legal resources that could have been better spent tackling crime or monitoring terror groups.
It's all about exhausting the infidel's resources. That's a form of jihad, too.

Flushed down the toilet? Is this a trick question? I would add that a proper Muhammedan would handle this damaged Koran with his clean hand, not the one he wipes with. Or is it the other way around? I'm so confused!

No, I'm serious. How are Muslims supposed to dispose of old Koran's they don't want anymore? They have rules on how to wipe your butt, surely they have a rule covering this.

But what I would like to know is, what about the faeces?

dont think there is such a thing as an old Quran that they dont want anymore...
There is no end to their oversensitivity to the Quran...They apparently believe a book can be physically possessed by Allah where the book itself, along with content become as one in a holy sense. There may also be the belief that anyone other than the use/owner may not touch a personal Quran. That doing so contaminates the energy it radiates. Magical tools are like that, someone other than the magician, handling his tools, wand, sword, tarot cards, ect, renders them useless for magical purposes. That may be a carry over from the magical practices prevelent from Mohammads time and before. Mohammad practiced black magic and probably had his personal instruments...In the magickal sense, Qurans should be ritually cleansed of negative energys and then burned...I

I do know that in Catholic households, such things as Crucifixes, Bibles and consecrated Easter olive branches are supposed to be burned. Throwing them into the trash is held to be irreverent. But then we hold nothing - except for the consecrated Host - in the kind of respect that Muslims hold the Qur'an. Our attitude, even to sacred writings, is not the same: we are not taught that the Bible is the inerrant word of God, rather that it is the witness to His dealings with the world He created. Consequently, while we treat such objects with respect, we do not regard them, as Muslims do the Qur'an, as something like the physical presence of God on Earth. I suspect that the poster who said that the idea of destroying a Qur'an for any reason does not occur to a Muslim mind; these books are supposed to just go on for ever.

I'm pretty secular, but so far as I understand, Jews bury religious texts to show respect. I also recall being taught to kiss the sidor (prayerbook) if it was dropped onto the ground.
And Muslims are very into being holier than Jews or Christians, so no wonder they are so obsessive-compulsive in everything they do.
