Robert Fisk, predictably enough, recommends dhimmitude in the face of the London bombings. "The reality of this barbaric bombing," from The Independent, with thanks to The One Who Must Not Be Named:
If we are fighting insurgency in Iraq, what makes us think insurgency won't come to us?"If you bomb our cities," Osama bin Laden said in one of his recent video tapes, "we will bomb yours." There you go, as they say. It was crystal clear Britain would be a target ever since Tony Blair decided to join George Bush's "war on terror" and his invasion of Iraq. We had, as they say, been warned. The G8 summit was obviously chosen, well in advance, as Attack Day.
And it's no use Mr Blair telling us yesterday that "they will never succeed in destroying what we hold dear". "They" are not trying to destroy "what we hold dear". They are trying to get public opinion to force Blair to withdraw from Iraq, from his alliance with the United States, and from his adherence to Bush's policies in the Middle East. The Spanish paid the price for their support for Bush - and Spain's subsequent retreat from Iraq proved that the Madrid bombings achieved their objectives - while the Australians were made to suffer in Bali....
But here's the problem. To go on pretending that Britain's enemies want to destroy "what we hold dear" encourages racism; what we are confronting here is a specific, direct, centralised attack on London as a result of a "war on terror" which Lord Blair of Kut al-Amara has locked us into. Just before the US presidential elections, Bin Laden asked: "Why do we not attack Sweden?"
Lucky Sweden. No Osama bin Laden there. And no Tony Blair.

Lucky Sweden? I think the residents of Malmo may beg to differ - that's if there are any Swedes left there at all.

Get out of Iraq. Do just what Robert Fisk wants, and MoveOn.org, and all those Arab agitators everywhere. Yes, get out -- but get out on our terms, without waiting for the Iraqis to grandly tell us when we can go, and with an entirely new set of accompanyng measures that will reveal a colder, harder, altogether more distrubing (for them, for Muslims generally) view of the matter. Cut the jizyah to Egypt. Change your mind about that absurd, suicidal $9 billion being offered the "Palestinian" Arabs who are the shock troops of the Jihad against Israel, the main one going until OPEC oil money allowed the Arabs and Muslism to extend their reach world-wide, with mosques, madrasas, arms bought and arms produced -- for Islam does not tell Muslims "take the Christian Holy Land, take the Jewish Eretz Israel" and "be satisfied." It says: participation in Jihad is a collective duty of all Muslims, and under certain circumstances it is an individual duty of Muslims, Jihad to spread Islam, Jihad to fight back against any and all obstacles put up to the spread of Islam. Europeans are discovering that when, without paying any attention to Islam, they allowed in millions of Muslim migrants, who now conduct Da'wa, have large families (mostly, but not entirely, on the Infidel-financed doles of generous European welfare states), they introduced a classic fifth column into their midst. They fret, they hope, they avert their eyes, they talk with waning faith in the possibility of "integration" (which "integration" will merely supply the linguistic and cultural tools to produce cleverer Muslims, more Tariq Ramadans rather than foreign-sounding and foreign-looking Hamzas -- quite a plan, to pay for K.G.B.-like "spy villages" where Muslims will be supported to learn even better how to exploit the European system, how to appeal to European Infidels, how beteer to conduct Da'wa and other propaganda among them)-- but nothing will work.
And then they throw up their hands and say -- but "what can we do?"And from that despairing conclusion, which apparently stops them cold, or most of them, they work backwards, trying to figure out "what they can do" to make Muslims happy, to pretend that everything is or can be made okay because the tenets of Islam cannot possibly be what we now all realize they seem to be, and the history of Islamic conquest and subjugation of non-Muslims cannot possibly be what we now all realize it has been --- so let's just pretend.
It's a very good game. Some people do it with the problem of retirement, and puny or non-existent pensions. Some people do it with affairs of the heart. And some people -- an entire civilization, that deserves to survive, despite its current inheritors -- do it with other, much more menacing matters.

Fisk is a joke. Compared to him, John Pilger is a model of integrity. As for his suggestion, what else did anyone expect? It is hardly worth the reporting. More interestingly, however, the "widespread condemnation" of Lord Stevens' remarks reported yesterday by the BBC has been swiftly followed by the police investigating eight Muslim households in Leeds and neighbouring parts.... Stevens, unlike his successor Ian Blair, was a copper's copper, who had worked his way up from the beat. Blair is looking every day more like a politically correct stooge.

Switzerland didn't get invaded because it was of no strategic importance to Hitler because it was landlocked and not on the invasion route to anywhere he sought to conquer. The same applied to Hungary until 1944 when the Red Army were driving towards Romania. Lots of neutral countries did get attacked, Belgium, Holland, Norway to name but a few.

I understand that Bin Laden actually praised Fisk in an interview once, saying that he enjoyed reading his 'balanced' articles.
High praise indeed, Fisk must be proud of it.

Re: "Lucky Sweden"
Do you think Fisk has heard of Malmo (as Dr. Phibes mentioned above)? Even he had it wouldn't register - he views the world through a different paradigm, a self loathing liberal/leftist who lives in a fantasy world.

"Switzerland didn't get invaded because it was of no strategic importance to Hitler because it was landlocked and not on the invasion route to anywhere he sought to conquer."
Only partially accurate. The Swiss made it perfectly clear to Hitler that the costs of invading Switzerland would be horrendous. The Swiss military and infrastructure are designed to make an invasion by anyone to be extremely costly. But, in the case of Hitler, the Swiss did allow German war materiel and troops passage through to Italy.

A visit to the National Museum of Switzerland (Landesmuseum) in Zurich, the Swiss equivalent of the American Smithsonian or the British Museum, would instantly cure any illusions about why Germany did not invade Switzerland. Swiss guards were used by the royal families across Europe as their personal bodyguards. The Swiss guards of Louis XVI fought the attacking mob on Versailles to the last man. The Pope still maintains the tradition. It wasn't because of their colorful uniforms.

Switzeralnd, as recent history has revealed, were complicit with the Nazis by being their unquestioning de facto "money launderers", which is one of the main reasons Hitler decided it would be a counter-productive move to invade Switzerland.
Better to use these cynical "neutrals" to funnel the gold ingots, etc., melted down from bushels of empty weddings rings and thousands of permanently stopped watches stolen from the annihilated victims of their racist/fascist ideology, which the Swiss banking establishment would take and convert to useful forms of currency (dollars, pounds, etc.) to help fund the total war effort of the German state.
If the Swiss has been less-'cooperative', or had pitchblende- like the Czechs- or some other strategic resource that the Wermacht required, the country would have shared the fate of the rest of Europe, a few thousand bike-riding machinegun-toting yodelers notwithstanding.
Neutrality, in the current conflict, however, is a suicidal delusion.
Unless the people of these countries are prepared to become converts or slaves.
You'd need a cuckoo clock for a cortex if you buy that fate.
