CAIR adds a few more notches to its belt, in blithe disregard for the fact that Iraqis have made many mosques into sites for military operations by storing weapons in them and even launching attacks from them. Here is CAIR's press release (thanks to Twostellas) demanding that Boeing and Bell toe the line:
WASHINGTON, Sept. 30 /U.S. Newswire/ -- The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) today called on aerospace giants Boeing Co. and Bell Helicopter Textron to pull a print advertisement depicting U.S. troops attacking a mosque. The ad for the CV-22 Osprey tiltrotor aircraft, published in the September 24 issue of National Journal magazine, depicts soldiers rappelling onto the roof of a building, labeled "Muhammad Mosque" in Arabic. The building has a dome, crescent moon and minaret, all common features of a mosque.
To view the ad, go to: http://www.cair.com/mosqueattackad.pdf
If CAIR finds this ad so offensive, why is it featuring it on its website?
Headlines on the ad read: "It descends from the heavens. Ironically it unleashes hell." Ad copy states: "The CV-22 delivers Special Forces to insertion points never thought possible."In a letter to Textron Chairman Lewis B. Campbell, Boeing Company President James A. Bell and Bell Helicopter Chief Executive Officer Michael A. Redenbaugh, CAIR Executive Director Nihad Awad wrote:
"(The ad) clearly portrays special forces assaulting a mosque, a structure dedicated to civilian worship purposes. This gives the impression that 'the insertion points never thought possible' are Islamic places of worship... This advertisement reflects poorly on Bell Helicopter, Textron and Boeing, and offers a questionable picture of your companies' collective opinion of Islam and Muslims."
And here is the capitulation announcement (thanks to LGF):
WASHINGTON, Sept. 30 /PRNewswire/ -- A prominent national Islamic civil rights and advocacy group said this afternoon that Boeing Co., Bell Helicopter Textron and National Journal magazine have apologized for a print advertisement depicting U.S. troops attacking a mosque. The Washington-based Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) said it had received a statement of apology from Boeing, which sponsored the ad along with Bell. Boeing wrote:"The CV-22 advertisement that appeared in the National Journal is clearly offensive, and did not proceed through the normal channels within Boeing before production.
"'We consider the ad offensive, regret its publication and apologize to those who like us are dismayed with its contents,' said Mary Foerster, Vice President of Boeing Integrated Defense Systems Communications.
"'When the Company became aware of the advertisement we immediately requested that our partner's agency withdraw and destroy all print proofs of the advertisement and replace it with one that was appropriate,' Foerster said. 'Unfortunately despite our best efforts to have the ad replaced, a clerical error at the National Journal resulted in its publication this week.'"
Representatives of Bell Helicopter and National Journal also contacted CAIR to express regret for the publication of the ad.
National Journal Executive Vice President Elizabeth Baker Keffer wrote: "[T]he advertisement for Boeing/Bell's V-22 Osprey that ran in the September 24 issue of National Journal was run as the result of a clerical error on our part. We had received specific direction from the agency representing Boeing/Bell to not run the ad. We have apologized to Boeing, their partner Bell, and their advertising agency for this mistake."
A Bell statement sent to CAIR said in part: "We recognize that some organizations and individuals may have been offended by its content and regrets any concerns this advertisement may have raised. Bell and our partners are evaluating creative processes to prevent this from happening again."
The ad for the CV-22 Osprey tiltrotor aircraft depicted soldiers rappelling onto the roof of a building, labeled "Muhammad Mosque" in Arabic. The building has a dome, crescent moon and minaret, all common features of a mosque....
"We thank Boeing, Bell and National Journal for their swift and decisive response to our concerns," said CAIR Executive Director Nihad Awad. "Mistakes can happen, but the true test of a company's integrity comes in acknowledging and dealing with those mistakes." He said CAIR will follow up with all parties involved to determine how the ad was produced and to help prevent similar incidents in the future.
Awad added that American Muslim groups are always ready to consult with corporations and media outlets on issues related to religious diversity and culturally-sensitive advertising.
Thanks, Nihad. Do you explain to them how your support for Hamas fosters cross-cultural sensitivity?

It seems there was some disingenuity or duplicity on the part of Boeing/Bell -- since that ad would not have ever been concocted at all had all parties involved really felt the way their apology made it out to appear.
I'm trying to figure out which is worse:
1) If Boeing/Bell were so thoroughly PC-ified that the ad never would have been concocted in the first place
2) The actual situation, where certain (if not most) key representatives and employees pertaining to the concoction of this ad knew quite well what they were doing when they were depicting the tactically adroit incursion into a mosque, but then clumsily had to backtrack and trip all over themselves in a show of abject apology to the PC-dominant reality of our times.
I'm not sure #2 is really a better situation than #1.

Hooray for clerical errors. Why is CAIR looking at ads for Ospreys anyway? Are they scouting the market to get some for HAMAS?

What an incredibly stupid thing to do. Who ever authorized that ad needs to be fired. Likely as not, it was a sympathizer to the cause of Islam. After spending 20 years in public relations, marketing and sales I’ve learned that you never advertise any product with a single buyer, and never, never give anyone anything to use against you in your advertising.
In this case, the enemy has made points because the good guys stepped on their cranks. If we want to slow down the spread of Islam we need to start using our heads and use tactics that they cannot cope with.

Robert -- "blythe disregard" needs work.
Perhaps it was a reference to Ronald Blythe, author of "The Way We Lived Then" which together with Flora Thompson's "Lark Rise to Candleford" should be cause for melancholy, and an immediate reading of back issues of Ian Robinson's "The Human World" -- that shortest-lived, and most missed, of publications.
Or perhaps you were alluding to R. H. Blyth, whose two-volume work on the Haiku take you right back to the island of Sado, and the Amanogawa, or Milky Way, mentioned once before in the archives of Jihad Watch?, with his two-volume work on Haiku?
Perhaps you were merely kidding around with Ye-Olde-Tea-Shoppe spelling, where the deliberate "y" -- yclept "why" --is meant to evoke something English, to inveigle visitors to enter and allow some Cornish clotted cream to violate their diet in Silver Spring or San Diego. Or perhaps you had been affected by that lecture you went to last week on "Boy Chatterton and 18th-Century Literary Forgeries -- A Reappraisal."
Or perhaps you were dreaming of Blythe Danner on the stage in Noel Coward's "Blithe Spirit" and flying fingers on a keyboard (sing those last five words to the tune of "candy kisses/wrapped in paper") naturally responded to the thought.
But if none of the above explains, or explains away, the appearance of "blythe" above, then if I were you I'd stay away from spelling-bees. They can sting.

Surely the capitulation to CAIR's demands had little or nothing to do with Boeing and Bell Helicopter being afraid of CAIR. No, they were afraid, rather, of what stands behind CAIR -- those good customers for their planes and helicopters in Saudi Arabia, the U.A.E., Kuwait. And that is the problem. CAIR claims to be an American organization. But where does its funding come from? Who does it manage to intimidate, or to bend easily to its will? How are foreign countries and individuals involved, with phone calls, or other kinds of pressure, or through money?
Has Congress tried to find out if money from abroad, directly or much more likely indirectly, funneled from individual Saudis or Saudi-funded institutions, or from people in the U.A.E., Kuwait, Qatar, and elsewhere?
We must demand more of our silent, timid, and reluctant representatives. They need to investigate that indirect funding from foreign interests, of CAIR and similar groups. If we are to be, rather than not to be, then by our directions others must find those indirections out.

Boeing/Bell made a mistake in the first place with this ad.
Rage in the Middle East is able to run for months on fumes. There is every reason to avoid providing hostile elements with free propaganda, which this advertisement provides. The best advertisement is by word of mouth anyway. "Speak lowly and carry a big stick."

"Boeing/Bell made a mistake in the first place with this ad.
Rage in the Middle East is able to run for months on fumes."
The Soviets destroyed thousands of mosques in all those suppressed "Stans" over the span of the 20th century, yet the Muslims hate America more than Russia. Similarly, an Algerian Muslim told me that he hates America more than France, even though France occupied his country and ruthlessly suppressed supremacist Islam for 130 odd years.
Moral: It doesn't matter how we comport ourselves with Muslims, they will not be influenced by our manners; all that matters is that we be clear-eyed about Jihad and defend ourselves effectively.

If you look at the big picture, it is kind of funny. At least the ad was created. Yea, it was pulled, but hey it was made. Some of us saw it and are aware of the truth. Follow the outcry same as following the money. Learn all about the enemy.

Those Muslims must be Psychics , not only do they know that every alleged vandalism at Mosques in American are done by white male non-Muslims
even with no witnesses or arrests , but they even know that not one of the persons in the ad is a Muslim soldier .
Maybe my picture of the ad was really small because I can't see one thing that shows the nationality and religion of the uniformed soldiers , plus why would the Army use a Dove-Grey Navy Osprey with no camaflage paint scheme.
Maybe that was the Mosque where "fat boy " Sadr murdered pow's and they were Iraqi Muslims going it to stop the abused in a Holy building.
Is this the same CAIR that doctored a photo to put a hijab on a non-Muslim female ?
I think the general public is starting to see CAIR for the idiots they are , and Hooper should take heed to a verse in the Bible that says "Even a fool can appear wise is they stay quiet" , and the other one I like is " Only a fool rejects wisdom" .
The last one was perfect for Muhammed since he chose to stay ignorant about gods love for all people .

I think this advertisement is a violation of sensible tactics. You don't want to advertise or otherwise telegraph your options. Just show up with your options fully loaded. The surprise effect magnifies the effort.
It's certainly not a matter of manners, it's a matter of keeping your cards hidden and the attention of potential enemies focused elsewhere.

If an arms company in a Muslim country used pictures of a church being attacked, can we really say that there wouldn't be an article here complaining about it? Followed by comments saying "Imagine if Boeing made an ad about a mosque being attacked..."?
I think Kojak is right on the money when he says

And I think this answers Robert's question of why CAIR has the ad on their web page. It's free propaganda for Al Qaeda. The enemy wants to frame the war against jihad terror as a war against Muslims as a people. Why give them PR ammunition?
