When Ahmad Mahfouz told his mother he is gay, she took him to a psychiatrist, thinking he had a disease that could be cured by antidepressants.When that didn't work, she urged him to date a woman. He ignored her advice.
"So now, whenever she sees me, she beats me with anything she can lay her hands on: a metal hanger, leather belt, her shoes."
The 19-year-old college student, a Lebanese Muslim, is unusual in his candor and willingness to be identified, though not photographed. But more Arabs are coming out as gays, or at least coming to terms with their sexuality, even though in some countries they face laws that can land them in jail and extremists who beat them up because Islam condemns homosexuality.
On top of that, homosexuality is widely seen as a disease spread by the U.S. and Israel to corrupt Arabs and undermine their religious faith.
In Lebanon, gays can find refuge at the cramped, one-room office of Helem, which says it's the first Arab nongovernmental organization openly fighting for their rights. Helem was set up last year despite a vaguely worded law that punishes "unnatural sexual intercourse" with up to one year in jail.
Lebanon, with its mixed population of Muslims and Christians, has a history of religious pluralism and exposure to the West. But elsewhere, homosexuals are on their own.

Socially segregated from women, Arab men succumb to homosexual behavior. But, interestingly enough, there is no word for »homosexual« in their culture in the modern Western sense. That is because having sex with boys, or with effeminate men, is seen as a social norm.
Last week we had the guy who was in love with the camel. I'm not sure it was particularly reciprocated or if he used protection ie an apricot pit.
The only pleasurable sexuality that seems to be forbidden is between a man and a woman.

Funny, isn't it? Islam condemns homosexuality in no uncertain terms; yet this same religion, with its very strict segregation of the sexes, actually promotes it! There are so many gays in the Muslim world!

This stifling of sexual freedom seems to have the same effect as prison in the west. Islam forces women to walk around in mobile prisons - why not have everyone imprisoned by sexual paranoias?
Sexual liberation, particulary for women and homosexuals, is a spear aimed at the heart of tyrrany. Every dictatorship wraps itself in "sexual morality" which is really a mishmosh of religious prejudice and prudery, aimed at keeping people fearful, guilty and frustrated.

An observation well made by Orwell in 1984. Islam, like Judaism and Christianity, does not seek total control over sex, but also like Judaism and Christianity, the rules are severe enough to be useful to dictators. Another reason why religion and the state must be separated.

When I lived in Saudi Arabia, I was told by a muslem male that women are for breeding, men are for fun !!!!!!!!

I had also read an article that a lot of the officers in the Pakistani army kept boys at their barracks. They even had a name for all these 'pretty boys'. Anyway, it became so bad that the senior officers had to crackdown.

Interestingly enough, Leviticus sees the penalty for one lying with man as with woman as death, not some restriction on marriage. Also, for Paul, homosexuality was one of the signs of social degeneration that followed from idolatry (Romans One).
So, while I don't like Islam, and doubt that all the civil laws of the Old Testament are applicable in these post-Messianic days, I can't rally round the gays in the Islamic world. Maybe the reason why the West, with all its skill and wealth, is held by the balls by a bunch of flea-bitten mujaheddin is because it has made fashionable something which is in fact highly shameful.

Something else I found - sexual intercourse with animals is ok. - Abu Dawud Book Number 4450, narrated Abdullah ibn Abbas: "There is no prescribed punishment for one who has sexual intercourse with an animal" So maybe it's 70 perpetual virgin camels in paradise?

My mother, a pioneering woman lawyer, once told the Jordanian consul that it was "well known that an Arab man will step over three good women to get to one good boy".
I almost choked on my soup! My mother saying something like THAT? But then, the REAL choker. The consul smiled, chuckled, and nodded his assent. He agreed! Everybody at the table thought it was hilarious.
I now wonder how many imams have diddled with the boys. In the catholic church, the children eventually spoke out. Can they do so at the mosque? Do they become something else?
