MasterCard Turkey Manager's Imprisonment Demanded

For speaking the truth about the Turkish persecution of Kurds and Armenians. A Let-Them-Into-the-EU alert from zaman.com, with thanks to Sr. Soph:

The investigation about the insulting expressions in the Istanbul City Guide, which was distributed by MasterCard prior to the UEFA Champions League Final Match, was concluded.

Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office demanded up to three years of imprisonment for MasterCard Southeastern Europe General Manager Ayse Ozlem Imece for degrading the Turkish identity, Turkish Republic, foundation and the state bodies in the investigation conducted in the last four months. The documents prepared by Public Prosecutor Huseyin Nazmi Okumus were sent to the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office due to the lack of jurisdiction. The case will be opened there in the following days.

The investigation was filed when the insults in the 290-page Istanbul City Guide, which belittled the Turkish Identity, Turkish Republic, foundation and the state bodies, reflected in media. The guide reportedly written by the British journalist Virginia Maxwell was published by the "Lonely Planet" publishing house based in Australia....

Some of the expressions in the booklet that was distributed during Milan-Liverpool Match in Istanbul were as follows: "In 1924, [Mustafa Kemal] Ataturk banned any expression of Kurdishness in an attempt at assimilation. Speaking Kurdish was banned. Major battles and atrocities ensued throughout the 1920s and 1930s, and since 1984, nearly 30,000 people have died. The resultant outrage of terrorism (new at the time though all too familiar to us now) set-off a powerful Armenian backslash, resulting in a widespread massacre of innocent Armenians in Istanbul and elsewhere."

We are directed to lie when it suits Allah's purposes or the advancement of Islam, and we expect infidels to do the same. Truth and honesty will NOT be tolerated! What are you? Some sort of creepy idealist? Maybe an I-phobe?

Long live the facade! All hail the facade!

If I remember correctly, there was more in this city guide than just history: there were warnings to tourists about the nature of Istanbul's predatory taxi services. The newspaper Zaman took deep offence at the guide's warnings to tourists, but as one who has ventured alone in Turkey by bus and plane, I can confirm that the warnings were valid.

I traveled through Istanbul twice last May and although being now experienced and on guard, I still managed to get "ripped-off" twice –- first by a travel agent at the airport who in an attempt to confuse me kept switching his quotes for shuttle service and bus ticket through different currencies. "Oh no, Ma'am, that price was in euros, not Turkish lira!" On my return trip, after having survived the hotel ripoff, and after having battled my way past aggressive touts at the bus station, I insisted on a metered yellow taxi, but I was overcharged by the driver anyway. I hadn't noticed that he hadn't turned his meter on, because by then I was a frazzled fugitive nervously weighing my flight departure time against the surge of Istanbul's morning rush hour. But I was so glad to get to the airport that by then I didn't care. Just let me out of here! But then I still had to face the indignant porter's demand for a minimum $5 tip!

It's definitely "Tourist Beware" in Istanbul, and perhaps anywhere in Turkey, because the mindset is that foreigners, yabanci, are fair game for anyone and are not to be given the everyday prices offered to Turks.

If Zaman really wanted to help Turkey's image it would stop its childish pouting and insist on fair treatment of foreigners -- and fair treatment of historical facts too.

Usually when we deal with Moslems we're thinking about being murdered or maimed, or enslaved, or raped, or good religious stuff in that vein.

But abridgement of free speech is the cutting edge of this awestome thing called Islam, the great and glorious Modern Religion (pbuh).

There are dozens of examples where the Moslem has beem able to limit free speech in the USA, left uncommented of course by our ever vigilant MSM.
