The incidence of craziness rises depending on the underlying belief-system. Islam is the belief-system that encourages, for many reasons, but especially in the way that it discourages free and skeptical inquiry right down the line, the kind of craziness that is reflected in the willingness to believe what to most of us is self-evidently absurd.

That's what I mean.

We should be careful! I wouldn't want Muslims to find out that we now know about the Muslim genes... It would be a disaster if too many Muslims find out that we have drugs which target Muslims for sterilization but leave Jews and Christians unaffected... I wouldn't want them to figure out that every vaccine we produce is a secret poison for Muslims -- something that will wither their genitals, and give them retarded and deformed babies -- or that we have placed microchips in most devices and can track them and hear them and watch them any time we choose. I wouldn't want these secrets to get out!!! SO please! Be careful in this forum... If this knowledge falls into Muslim hands, it might harm our crusade against them....

Regarding the compulsion to invent or believe in conspiracy theories in general, and the usual anti-Semetic one in particular, goes to the hollowness or insufficiencey of the core "complaint" of victimization. Otherwise, the complainants would stay on point, and rely on the merits of the case.

Hence, Mohammed wasn't just victimized by the treacherous Jews of Medina, causing him to pre-emptively break his treaty with them and slaughter them, all Jews are pernicious falsifiers of G_d's word for the purpose of denying the Prophet his rightful place and hence the Palestinians can't just stick to actual grievances they may have about direct cases of expropriation or expulsion, but have to not only lie, but deny any Jewish connection to historic Judea and Summaria.

CNN just featured a law suit being brought by the ACLU on behalf of several former Iraqi "detinees." The so-called detainees have claimed they were sodomized by US guards, had rubber bullets fired at them every day, and were terrorized by lions by US service personell... And the ACLU has taken up their banner and is suing to give these men the rights under the constitution for due process and trial in US court.

The funny thing is, though the men claimed 'sodomy' and 'terrorism by lions' none of these preposterous claims are included in their law suit --

I can hear the ACLU counsel: "Well, if you want to be believed, you have to stick to the kind of stuff we've been alleging before -- that will have some resonance since we've already laid the groundwork -- as for this lion stuff, and sodomy stuff -- it's probably a little too much for now, and a little too early as well -- let's just stick with slanderous accusations that we CAN make stick -- Trust us -- it will still do serious damage!"

No no, the OLD ones couldn't see but the new ones have all kinds of features, including a complex radar system that lets Lizard Central know whether the carrier is bowed over for prayer and even which hand they use to wipe themselves.

The only design drawback is that they sometimes cause nearby Qurans to burst into flames. Something about a "BS conflict", whatever that means.

Curiously, it was an Italian writer, Carlo Panella, who recently wrote a book on the notion of "Jewish conspiracy" in Islam. Panella traces this notion in Islam back to the stories about Jews in Medina who, in the Islamic view, falsely converted to Islam in order to disrupt Islam's progress. Later, Sunnis came to believe that the Shiite split had been caused by Jews who wanted to split Islam, and the Shiites in turn came up with the theory that the sevener-twelver split in Shiism was caused by a Jewish conspiracy.

Of course, paranoia is more prevalent among Muslims, probably, than among any other religion. In fact, everything is explained by a conspiracy, whether Jewish or otherwise.

SusanP -- Yikes! Those gems are both flawless and horrific... It is both nauseating and easy to imagine that cankered psychopath Muhammad pondering the licking of pus and blood from his nose... I am always struck at the Muslim's complete lack of self consciousness while discussion feces and urine in the Mosque (dogs and Bedouins apparently did/do this A LOT according to the Islamic texts...) or whether Muhammad liked to stand or squat while pissing, where he pissed, whether it got on his clothes, what they did with the piss afterwards, etc... or the endless revolting obsessions with every manner of bodily excretion and exudate, sloughing scabs, disposal of fingernails, plucking of hairs, disposal of said pluckings and trimmings and sloughings (usually to be buried -- NEVER in a "dirty" place -- Huh???? Wuh??? Ummmm.......)

Did the Pope JP2 know any of this material when he kissed that big green koran? It is hard to imagine... I am a devout agnostic (!) but learning about Islam brings me close to considering the true factual existence of Satan himself...

Just a few days ago, I was ignorant of Islam.

I must say that my efforts to educate myself about Islam and Mohammad have been deeply disturbing.

I had always assumed that Islam must have merit as otherwise it would have been discarded a long time ago...I did mot reckon with the power of fear it has to keep it's followers in line and the lure hatred and viloence have for ignorant young men.

Has anyone here read "The Mystical City of God" by Mary of Agreda?
This remarkable nun apparently had the power of bilocation.
While cloistered in a convent in Spain, she simultaneously appeared to numerous natives in Mexico and thereabouts. She made over 500 of these journies.
In "The Mystical City of God", Mary of Agreda describes Islam as being created by Satan to distract mankind from the message of Jesus Christ.
