From Bloomberg:
Pakistan gained pledges of $5.4 billion from international donors and lenders, more than the south Asian nation was seeking, to rebuild cities and rehabilitate people devastated by last month's earthquake. The magnitude 7.6 earthquake struck the northern Himalayan territory of Kashmir on Oct. 8, killing more than 74,000 people and leaving millions homeless. About 73,000 people died in Pakistan-controlled Kashmir and the North West Frontier province, and as many as 1,300 people in the Indian-run part of the region...
The Asian Development Bank approved $1 billion in aid, Haruhiko Kuroda, president of the bank, told the conference. ``The bank will help Pakistan construct special homes for destitute women and children and will also help set up a seismic center and construct roads,'' he said.
Other aid announced at the conference included $500 million from the U.S., $375 million from the International Monetary Fund, $170 million from the UK, $150 million from Turkey and $110 million from the European Union...

Curious. Was not some fool on JW a few days back, claiming the Muslim nations had given 5.4 billion to the quake victims? I think it was ro... I guess he equates 'asian' with 'muslim,' like much of the British media does (or rather, the media hides behind).

I'm kind of surprised at the EU. That seems like a low number for them considering Turkey pledged more. The American pledge was predictable, and far too high IMO, but what would we do without our Pakistani "allies"? Speaking of allies, China isn't on this list. Kind of ironic considering how China sells Pakistan the military tech that even the United States won't give them and how China would like nothing more than Pakistan to bring India to its knees through high and low level jihad.

And how much of this "aid" will go into jihadi hands? There's barely any transparency and accountability in the civilian burecucrcy and with the military in power, things only get worse.
Pakistan is, was and will always be a place to be wary of.

I found a few things odd with this. First, why are so many non muslim nations giving this much money to Pakistan? Wasn't it a few weeks ago we heard that the aid going there was being hoarded by the government? And Asia sending money to help women and children? I can assure you that's not what that money is going to. The Pakistani government will find a much more jihadist way to use that money. And what about aid from other muslim nations? Wasn't some of al-quaeda's leaders, I think it was Zawahiri, saying that muslims should be helping out? There are alot of things here that show that muslims don't care about their own, and as much as islam demonizes the west, we are still offering more help, not only than they requested, but more than we should have given anyway. This just shows that the west is much more caring than the myriad muslim nations who are refusing to send any help or aid at all. Of course, most muslim nations live in poverty, while the governements are hoarding all the wealth. But that's to be expected. You can't really trust a muslim to do anything good, even helping out his/her own kind, unless the death of infidels is part of the process.

voletti asks,
And how much of this "aid" will go into jihadi hands?
This Al Jazeera reported on October 29th:
Police in southern Pakistan have arrested five people collecting donations for victims of the South Asian earthquake on suspicion of belonging to an outlawed group.Posted by: EschwappMamoor Khan, a police inspector, said the men had been collecting donations in the southern city of Karachi in the name of a charity, Al-Rahmat Trust, recently set up by the group Jaish-e-Mohammed.
"We arrested them because they are from Jaish-e-Mohammed, which is not allowed to carry out any activity," he said on Saturday.
President General Pervez Musharraf banned Jaish-e-Mohammed in January 2002 in an effort to crack down on certain groups the government considers extremist.

Pakistan really knows how to make hay while the sun shines. 5.4 Billion dollors!! My God.! The neighbouring India too suffered earthquake-but they never went around the world with a begging bowl. They got self respect. In fact, they have helped their ace enemy pakistan in spite of muslims bombing and killing 60 innocent civilians in New Delhi market place. In USA,Canada.and all over christian countries, these guys beg for funds and I have seen church volunteers like Salvation Army church, going house house, collecting funds and clothes for these victims. But, our news media have conveniently hide the fact that four christian churches (including one Salvation Army church) is destroyed on the pritext of defilement of koran by a christian ,and one thousand local christians were chased out of the pakistan village. No BBC report on this. What is the use of helping these ungreatful scums? America helped somuch during Iran's earth quake. Now they are the worst enemy calling us "great Satans'.America should have given that amount to the homeless and poor of her own people suffering still after Katarina.

I hope Pakistanis realize that being a Muslim doesn't earn them international sympathy.
Muslims cannot go around terrorizing and spreading hatred through the world and then later ask that we feel pity for them.

Dear Gary,
I think you are referring to me as the "fool claiming the Muslim nations had given 5.4 billion to the quake victims".
I see that you can construct sentences however you dont seem to be able to understand what you have read; nor are you able to read numbers.
Again, USD727,725,000 means:
Seven hundred and twenty-seven million, seven hundred and twenty-five thousand dollars. This amount was donated to the US (America) for the hurricane a few months ago by muslim countries.
Check out:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/International_response_to_Hurricane_Katrina
Also, pastor_matt, just because the poster of this topic did not mention many muslim countries giving aid to Pakistan, it does not mean that the muslim nations did not donate.
Even my 13 year old knows that you shouldnt believe everything you read on the internet, especially when the authors are biased against or towards someone, as the authors on this website are.

A funny thing about Islamic nations: They can NEVER come up with the dough to save their own people's lives.
But they never have ANY trouble coming up with the cash to build weapons of mass destruction to aim at 'infidels.'
